Hassan says if he had not become a football player he would have become a mechanic. How does this mean he is degrading mechanics? I would have ended up as a kenkey seller, as a street sweeper, as a farmer, as a fitter.

He is degrading mechanics.
He is talking out of spite.
You need to learn English Comprehension.

But he can easily be forgiven, because he is young and stupid, and when you're young and stupid, you don't process your thoughts before expressing them. You get a position you think is better than others' positions, you express your superiority. That's just how immaturity goes with youth.
