Is it not sad that despite his book knowledge, he is not completely honest about the situation in Ghana? If we have people like this without integrity in leadership position in Ghana, will anything work for us. Note also that our parliament is an experimental ground for all kinds of people, both knowledgeable and semi literates, so if nothing good comes from there, don't be surprise.

I am sorry but if Sylvester truly believes that “this is truly an exciting time to be growing up in Ghana”, then he is either being disingenuous, deluded or playing political mischief and pure propaganda. The reality for many Ghanaians, especially, the youth is harsh with no opportunities for them. They are disappointed, disillusioned, angry with sense of hopelessness. They see a bleak future ahead of them and you say otherwise? Are you real and are you in Ghana? Please open your eyes and see what is happening in Ghana.
You tell me, what is exciting about the organisation you lead that is unable to pay healthcare providers because the government failed to release funds to the National Health Insurance Authority for months? You may be living in your cocoon or an ivory tower and have all the comfort of life (free car/s, free fuel, free healthcare, driver/s, free accommodation, free electricity, etc). For the youth in Ghana, many have to queue for trotro, struggle before they can afford lunch, experience dum sor, no job, etc. Life is wahala for them.
Please do not insult the intelligence of Ghanaian youth. You may be good at your job but what you said makes you appear arrogant and stupid.
I am sorry, after reading the quotes attributed to you, I stopped reading your interview but whatever you said became irrelevant for me after reading what sounded to be a deluded person.

we are tired of the reckless willfulness of these leaders from minority tribal groups who only come with corruption in their hearts and hatred of the values and potential of the majority. This govt due to their anti Akan agenda and discrimination saturated by hate and envy of the Akans can never do anything right or good . Their wickedness is so deep in their subconscious and conscious that its fully geared to destroy the Akan economy so anything they think will benefit the Akans will be sabotaged , ignored or thrown out . we have no choice but to regroup and do as much as possible without involving the govt , ndc or these pepeni/ayigbe mafia criminals . Corruption , discrimination based on their tribalism , hegemony and chauvinism has eroded all unity within the nation .Akans all over the place are waking up , with the BA chiefs voicing their reservations about GMO , western region , central region are protesting under their breaths , our dear Ashantis have made their position clear so we expect the political parties with understanding of the Akan plight like the cpp , ppp and npp to stand up or be forgotten. We can not wait another 2 years as by then the damage will be cemented beyond repair . Eyered is now everywhere and we reluctantly realize only a bloody revolution can set our people free . Its not that they are unprepared of do not know what to do to get Ghana back on track but the hate in their hearts make them continue on this path of destruction of the Akans . they are doing EXACTLY what they planned to do so dont be fooled, just examine the EU agreement. If this EPA was so good why didnt they push that proposal through the UN for the whole world to benefit . we shall be exploited to the brink of slavery all because we have an illegitimate election rigging ayigbe/pepeni govt seeking international recognition and approval , the same way jj signed us off to the IMF . Only a fool can be deceived into thinking an election is the solution as it will be rigged again, we are wise to remain reserved and keep an open mind as many wanna be leaders fall short of being a genuine progressive leaders rather they are more likely to be in cohorts with the mafia political oligarchy that has a stranglehold on our people

Come on, Kofi Ata, I'm afraid you are allowing your sensibilities to be hoodwinked by prevailing conditions in the country and thereby losing your sense of balance. Unlike you, I did not allow what I found jarring in the piece to get in the way of what I was reading, so I read it to the very end to get his drift. And I'm glad I did! This is not a man who has buried his head in the sand and crying "peace, peace, when there is no peace". Neither are his thoughts one of someone crying "wolf, wolf", just for the sake of political expediency. He acknowledges the challenges plaguing the continent as a whole and the difficulties peculiar to our country. When he turned his attention to the youth, again he did not adopt the 'pie in the sky' approach. No! This is what he said: "if they [ie the youth] utilise the opportunities which come their way, thoroughly learn the lessons of the past and intelligently harness the resources available to them, there will be no limits to their achievements and their ability to transform this beautiful country we call home for the benefit of all." I don't know about you, but I see this as his desire to encourage the youth to make the most of what's available to them. Now you ask yourself soberly and honestly: 1. How does doing this equate to being 'arrogant' or self-centred? [Remember, he did not pose the questions!] 2. When confronted with a problem, do you solve it sooner by focusing on the problem or by focusing on the solution? It seems to me that Sylvester chose the latter, and I don't think that that makes him a repulsive figure. On the contrary, it makes him a solution oriented public figure whose views we are missing because of our blinkers.

With all his book knowledge,he is still lying to the World.
90% of graduates in Ghana are unenmployed,95% High-School leavers are not employed,i will not talk about drop-outs,or those he couldn`t attend school at all and this guy is sitting somewhere in America telling the World their future looks bright.May be,but not with this Government.
The streets of Accra is full of young people some as young as six either selling biscuits,or begging to make ends meet.
The pogramme Kuffour setup to atleast alliviate the suffering of the youths in Ghana, has now been turn into den,(SADA)where NDC officials are stealing from.
And the NHIS Kuffour introduce atleast, when the get sick they can visit the Hospital, has been destroyed by this very guy who is talking.
How can the future of our youth looks bright, when the life expectancy in Ghana is falling under the NDC Government?

I find some of the comments to this interview quite puzzling, to be honest. I must say that I was so impressed by the insight exhibited in the piece that I took time to read the it carefully - not cursorily. I was captivated, especially, by the way he contextualised problems of the past and the challenges facing the continent today. I'm not sure how the interview was conducted; but however the journalist achieved his objective, I was impressed by the man's insight and the way he couched his thoughts and expressed them so intelligently. Finally, it cheered me to see a contemporary Ghanaian politician demonstrating such far-sightedness!

Hi Mensima, please accept my gratitude for expressing the sentiments I felt upon reading this interview, so eloquently. I just could not fathom where all this angst is coming from. The guy makes a number of important points across a range of areas on life in contemporary Africa in general and Ghana in particular. Like you, I find his words carefully selected to convey his ideas accurately. Yes, some of the questions were nebulous, viewed within the context of an interview; but even so I thought his answers reveal his sufficient grasp of what's being asked of him and what he sincerely thought about the questions posed. He might have been tempted to prevaricate on some of the tricky political issues of our times [as most politicians do]. But he did not. Instead, he explained the context as he saw it and then proceeded to make useful inferences - a very reasonable approach to interpreting situations which you did not experience first hand. Kudos to you!

I found the interview very interesting, and thought for a young man S. Mensah availed himself well. Yes I would have loved a much more explicable explanation on some of the subject, ie why the future look great for the youth of Ghana, and why the killing of the ex presidents was not a total mistake? Not what we learnt, or what we took from it. Of course most people who are today riling against that awful decision, were the same screaming on the streets " let the blood flow"
As for the youth, a critical observation speaks volums, education, unemployment, health, to grapple with a few. I wish he had delved a little deeper. That doesn't make him dishonest and naive as some of the comment subscribe. S. Mensah is a politician. Tell me one politician who had answered the whole question, from Britain to the US. Let not turn our nation into the blood and crip gangs of LA, where nothing is good from the NDC if you ask an NPP and nothing is good if you ask the NDC about NPP. It's ok to criticize, can we do it without spilling bile all over? Can we be Ghanains first?
