There are reports that while some districts are charged high electricity tariffs others are charged next to nothing. It is said that within the same neighborhoods in Accra/Tema electricity tariffs vary from house to house.

Ghana has three hydroelectric dams: Akosombo dam, Kpong hydroelectric dam and the newly constructed Bui dam. Aside this we have the Aboadze power and Takoradi power plants. I am sure by now we can all conclude that the decision to invest in the West Africa Gas Pipeline was not a prudent one because Nigeria has admitted that they would not be able to supply us with the gas that we need.

However what is disturbing is that the additional power being generated is not being used by our industries or consumers. We supply Togo, Benin and Nigeria through two grids one in the south and one in the North. We also supply ivory coast and Burkina Faso with electricity. Inspite of this the cost of electricity to the average consumer has not declined and many would tell you that it is very expensive. There is another thing I don't understand. The government sometimes tells us there is power crises meanwhile electricity supply to other countries from Ghana continues unabated.

A look at the map of the national electricity grid would tell you straight away that the at least 12 Akyem districts in the Eastern Region which make up more than half the population of the region have been cheated.

In the load shedding exercise it is imperative that some key areas be left out. This should include where the three arms of government work and reside like Sakumono where MPs (representatives) reside and flag staff house and osu castle where the President works and resides. Where the chief justice works and resides should also be included. It should also include the premises of key government institutions like ministries.We need to quadruple our electricity production within the next four years but not through foreign investors.

SOLAR ENERGY IS MORE RELIABLE AND MANAGEABLE IN AFRICA THAN HYDRO/THERMAL ETC.GOVT MUST LISTEN AND HELP THEM IMPORT THE PANELS AND ACCESSORIES.IT WILL ALSO CREATE JOBS FOR THE YOUTH.

Human beings are now able to convert sunshine into usable energy. Enough energy reaches the Earth from the sun in one hour to equal all of the energy used by the entire world in a full year.
The cost of electricity from photovoltaic , or PV, solar cells is becoming cheaper than the cost of electricity from other sources powering electric grids.

Even in Germany, Europe's industrial powerhouse , more than 37% of its daily electricity comes from wind and solar.

The government of the newly elected prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, has recently announced a plan to rely principally upon photovoltaic energy in providing electricity to 400 million Indians who currently do not have it.

It is a great shame that the Mahama administration don't realize that we are witnessing the beginning of a massive shift to a new energy-distribution model - from the "central station" utility - grid model to a "widely distributed" model with rooftop solar cells, on-site and grid battery storage, and microgrids.

Our many unemployed graduates should be trained to install rooftop solar cells in our homes, schools, hospitals, churches & mosques, and on our streets.

Converting sunshine (and we have lots of it), into energy has become much, much cheaper much faster than anyone predicted,
