Gov't must stop subsidising the prices of petroleum products and utilities if it wants to get the necessary investment for their production. Alternatively, it should curtail spending in infrastructure and other things and use the money to pay the subsidies on them. There is no 'father Christmas' approach to investment. Shareholders' need higher dividends and company directors need to maximise profits to provide them.

Perhaps, this writer did not know the reason behind the fuel subsidies in this country. One, the government of Ghana and its agencies draw some of this fuel free. Two, ask whether the government of Ghana is ready to pay realistic wages and salaries to workers to meet the high cost of leaving when the subsidies are removed. Three, Do you know that it was the continuous and frequent increase in the fuel prices that is collapsing the economy. The Government should remove the subsidy and workers will agitate for more pay. Subsequently, you expect more devaluation of our ailing currency in terms of the major one. Removal of subsidies is not right at this time and the government must stop the frequent increment of the product.Instead the government is advised to provide a hedge for the supply of crude oil into this country for lets say about 6 - 12 months with constant lifting price with our crude oil suppliers so we avoid the frequent increment.
