Now whether Essien wrote that piece or not is beside the point. Even though it is obvious that he did not write it, he did the sensible thing by requesting someone who can write better than him to do so for him. The scripts of speeches of even Presidents of most countries are written by others for them so what is your beef? If you had asked someone who is more capable than yourself to write your contribution to this article for you, perhaps you would not have said "Did Essien wrote this piece" instead of "Did Essien write this piece".

Most of the senseless and vulgar comments coming in the wake of our disappointing performance are borne out of little minds who think that at all cost, Ghana should have advanced further than we did. That is what we all hoped for but unfortunately that is also what all teams hoped for. However some, either put in more effort or they were simply better on the day than others - including the Black Stars. Remember it is a competition, and all the teams cannot all win. Look at Spain, the reigning champion. They were the first to be kicked out of the tournament.

As sad as it is, we must grow up and be mature in the face of undeserved loss. Ranting and raving like that zongo psychopath Sulley Muntari, will not solve the problem for next time.

I think what your friend in the US should also have asked you is why you yourself are in the US doing menial jobs instead of being in your own country to proudly join the fight to improve the conditions of life, education, health and especially Ghana football, which apparently means a lot for you.

I blame the government? Why should the government promise them money that it didn't have or was not prepared to pay at that time. There was a time when a lady athlete used her own money to buy ticket to run for Ghana and refused to do so because she was not paid back. That is the rot that goes on at ministry of sports and the government when it comes to sports.

Ka Na Wu, I share your concerns 100%. Who does Essien think he is fooling? We all observed his passive compliance - or, his 'silence means consent' posture when that crazy boy Sulley Muntari went into one of his typical lunatic depressions.

It seems that some more sensible person has counseled Essien to understand that if he doesn't quickly come out to distance himself from that coup d'etat that he and his close pals, KPB and Muntari plotted and launched against the GFA and the optimistic possibility of the Ghana team going far in the tournament, his entire football profession in Europe and Ghana would not only have come to a definitive end, but his whole hitherto illustrious football career in the history of Ghana Football would be rubbished forever. All this will go with a considerable loss of income as well.

In all fairness, Essien does not really belong in the Muntari-KPB category of unruly characters. Essien, at face value, looks civilized, well-brought-up, good-natured, good-tempered and composed. Whatever compelled a person like him to associate with the diabolical likes of Muntari and KPB remains to be unraveled. I however fear that Essien took a wrong turn and may have blown his good fortune for good.

They extorted their undeserved pay from the GFA at the wrong time because they held the entire country to a criminal ransom and you are supporting this foolishness?

FIFA obviously also feels that the right time to pay participation fees from which the players are paid by the national associations, is after the tournament and that was why the money was not readily available by FIFA – and not the GFA as is erroneously thought by rash minds. Therefore, in the face of the threat by the recalcitrant players to abandon the last match against Portugal and cause maximum damage worldwide to the image of our country if their unfair demands were not met, the govt which I will support for once, panicked and hurriedly mobilized scarce resources to pay the boys.

I hope the GFA does not succumb to the typical 'fa ma nyame' syndrome and ‘allow sleeping dogs to lie’ in the aftermath of this tragic disaster. The name and aim of the game is ruthlessness for total discipline and a strong organization to produce optimum results. The GFA should be uncompromising. They should rope in and bring all involved in this nasty matter to book. Nobody should be spared in this matter as far as the playing body is concerned. Examples and ground rules must be set and vigorously pursued from now on for all potential players in the Black Stars team. We must spare no-one and brook no nonsense to reverse the embarrassing set-backs and make the Black Stars shine again.

I have sifted all the information flying about and no-where have I encountered anywhere that the GFA is at fault or that they have openly engaged in acts of malfeasance or corruption. Anybody who has any specific and hard information towards that end should bring it up for redress. This matter is more serious than to continue engaging in rumour mongering and silly back-biting games. It has dampened the morale of all Africans and Black people all over the world and led some to even question the humanity and mentality of Africans. This is how serious the matter is. People of genuine African descent all over the world need to desperately prove that we can perform just as well or better than those who continue to look down upon us in all endeavours.

Effort must be made to investigate the possibility of infiltrators and saboteurs in the Black Stars camp. Coming on the heels of the globally circulated libellous and demoralizing article of the racist Telegraph newspaper, at a crucial moment of the tournament for the Black Stars, the possibility that the known emotional weakness of some naive and vulnerable elements within the playing body could have been ignited and stirred up to cause disaffection and turmoil in the Black Stars camp to minimize our threatening ability to upset the applecart, cannot be ruled out. Our imperialist detractors employ this notorious divide and rule tactic all the time in almost every field of endeavour to keep us down and fighting within ourselves.

The only fault of the GFA - if I can describe it as one, is that, they treated the mentally retarded rogues and little-minded ruffians in the playing body with kid gloves until their arrogance and misbehaviour grew and became the focus of both the playing body as well as the GFA. In short Sulley Muntari and that Rawlings clone – Kevin Prince Boateng (KPB), shattered the resolve and the team spirit in the task that they had gone to Brazil to accomplish.

Next time, any budding player in the Black Stars team, with the slightest scent or sign of the ‘Muntari-KPB syndrome' should simply and without much ado, be promptly thrown out of the team without any hesitation or reprieve.

In the same way that the govt is not responsible for retired Civil Servants or workers from the private sector, the govt and the Sports Ministry are not responsible for the up-keep of retired sportsmen and women. This, I presume, is the official position for now.

Much as I would also wish that govt makes a special dispensation towards rehabilitating the socio-economic condition of all known retired and disabled sportsmen, it is definitely not the fault of govt that they are in the pathetic state that they are in.

Many sportsmen and women were national heroes at a time in our history when sportsmen were proud and happy to be simply nationalistic without the commensurate financial compensation.

Today the situation is not the same and many Ghanaian sportsmen and women who are lucky enough to get professional contracts abroad, probably earn the highest incomes for any Ghanaian of any profession anywhere.

The old sportsmen and women who created the platform for the current sportsmen and women to shine, should be duly compensated for their yeomans role in firmly putting Ghana on the world map for others to come in later and enjoy the fruits of their labour.

I will even go further to propose that at least 10% or 15% of the total amount of any income earned from any international sports assignment - including the World Cup tournaments, should be put aside and invested into a Sports Persons and Infrastructure Fund. Many useful things can be done with such a fund. For instance;

This Fund should be managed by a team of capable people or a known financial organization that can grow the proceeds.

All sports persons over the age of 60+ should be eligible to access this Fund.

All known sports persons who suffer any form of disability during competition can also access this fund for recuperation.

A restricted percentage of this fund should be employed for sports development in all other national sports development activities.

Is it patriotic for the GFA to try and cheat on the money for the players accommodation and transportation? How would you want to wait 9 hours for a flight when as a player you're supposed to be on time to get adequate rest, acclimated and well-tuned to the host country? How would you feel when you, the player, is subjected to irregular flights from a cheap tro-tro airline company because GFA was trying to steal as much from the players' transportation money from the govt? And how about being booked in economy on a long trans-atlantic flight to Brazil, without enough room to rest the foot? Did you know that could potentially kill you? Did you know it isn't healthy for such a long flight to have the legs cramped like that? Especially for football players who depend on their feet for executing their work?!

Is it patriotic for the GFA to book the players in a cheap, sub-standard, non-FIFA approved hotel which was leaking when it rained and turned the players' rooms into swimming pools? Really, how daft can you be?

booking economy class which has no adequate room to rest the legs;

a clueless coach who benched experienced players and/or had them play unfamiliar positions???

They have really embarrassed every Ghanaian and also the Black Race in general. But then again corruption is radiant and rampant in many institution in Ghana.

Essien and his cronies needs to come up with the truth for the sake of reviving and resurrection of the Black Star football team. I believe someone like Opare was deliberately asked to mis-cross all his crossings when he got into dangerous situations. He needs to be probed as the GFA sold the game to the Americans. How else will you play a friendly game in America just preceding a big tournament like the World Cup. Shame on you all.

Judging from the response to Essien's pacifist moves, people are pissed at both the players and officials of the Black Star team. I wrote that our proclivity to over pamper these players has led to the narcissistic culture that permeates the ambience or body politic of the Black Stars. Of course my condemnation was swift and vicious. People felt I was a moron to even think of such a heinous idea. The officials were the sole cause of the problem was the response to my humble suggestion. However, the vehemence with which people are openly torching Essien and his colleagues now means they are being stripped off their deity status and brought down to the main street.
The US coach Jürgen Klinsmann came out after their defeat and advocated for accountability after failures. He believes the only way the his team would see progress in the future is through public accountability. Below are excerpts from Klansman’s interview which alludes to what I was crucified for.
“His message to players is they don't do enough. They don't play twice a week, like Champions League stars. They don't face condemnation from their community after losses and poor performances”
''It makes them feel accountable, not just walk away with a bad performance and nothing happens,'' he said. ''If you have a bad performance, then people should approach you and tell you that, so make sure that next game is not bad anymore and that you step it up.''
I think the players should also be held responsible for our abysmal failure in Brazil.

He refuses to obey instructions to warm up, later voices his support for the misbehavior of his co conspirator Muntari and now turns round to call for peace. What effrontery, what hypocrisy !! Essen should be told in no uncertain terms that he cannot be part of the problem and at same be part of the solution. What disturbs me most is the sort of influence he has on the younger ones. Before Accam was deselected, he kept on saying that he was happy to be learning from the senior players and made specific mention of Essien. The question Essien should ask himself is whether his example is worth emulating. It does not matter much how long he plays in the Black Stars but the mark that he makes that Ghanaians will look at to remember him positively or negatively.
