We had experts,or consultants for that matter, who took huge sums of money on the viability of a project such as the Oil availability @ The Jubilee fields but failed to realise a bi-product like gas to have made provision for it. Rather, we allowed equipment to be mounted,got first oil drilled to the delight of gov't and all Ghanaians,yet forgot to build this long-overdue Gas fields to process flared gas from the Jubilee fields..What went into the engineering? Are we serious as a country,or we had no qualified experts to have advised this earlier? We must be serious as a country.

Car exhaust on our streets is far more harmful than gas flaring at the Jubilee field.

Have u ever heard about the term "Climate change" and it's impacts, such as global warming, acid rain, etc. Do u know the causes, how they occur, and the fact that their effects transcend boundaries. I will suggest you do a google search on the subject matter to educate yourself.

It doesn't matter whether the hydrocarbons or carbon monoxides from the flaring are realised 1000 miles or 45 miles away from human settlement. What happens is, in simple language, those gases go into the atmosphere and form part of, or deteriorate, the stratosphere, though acid rain has localised effects. The impacts know no boundaries, or geographical limits, and that's what global warming comes from. Bear in mind that the environmental effects of our actions go beyond the source of the damage - that's why when there is oil spillage in the North Sea in America the whole world is worried, and not just America.

Gas flaring is something most governments and orgs are trying to do away with. So it's suprising our government is easily giving in to the bullying tactics of the Jubilee partners.

I am surprised you still maintain there will be no impacts of the flaring on communities. Probably not direct and immediate impacts, but, obviously, there will be some indirect and long-term impacts as elaborated in ACEP's statement. As a country, I think, we need to stop setting bad precedent with this gas flaring thing - once you permit one company to do it, the others will come asking for same.

On the issue of vehicle exhaust emissions, I know the EPA has a programme on Vehicle Exhuast Emission Monitoring, though I lack information on how effective it is.
