Vodafone has failed to extend high speed broadband services to the East Akyem Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana although a global software development company, businesses, law firms, organisations including schools and cocoa research institute is located there. This has forced businesses there to maintain offices in Accra/Tema for their ICT needs.
The national communications authority has shirked in its duty. It has made no provision whatsoever for the conversion of the current internet protocol (IPV4) to the new standard which is IPV6. It has not issued any directive to any of the telecommunication companies to migrate to this new standard. Many countries are in the process of converting and some countries have already completed the transition.
Ghana must convert to IPV6, the new standard, by the end of next year. Ghana must not be left behind. What is interesting is that the existing infrastructure already has provision for this.
