I smell something fishy about this deal. Well, if they're asked to afford the tickets for themselves, then how many of them are prepared to go back to Ghana after the said program is over? In fact, majority of the people out there are vehemently seeking for a means to obtaining a U.S.A. or any other Western visa to zip-code out of town and have no trouble at all whatsoever borrowing to make the epic journey if and only if one can help them secure a genuine visa. All in all, I smell a big rat with this deal of AMA already.

as if the AMA has the capacity and is willing to implement any good thing members bring from the USA.

While such exchange programs are not uncommon among individuals and groups, and that their benefits could be enormous to parties involved, doubts such as I have just expressed demand that we be cautious of such trips.

Again, the the story raises many questions as to how genuine were the intention behind the trip.

Why should individuals pay their own airfares for corporate trips? How could the AMA enforce members to give of what they learnt from the trip when they argue that they largely, sponsored themselves? Are they receiving any per diems (allowances) and how much are these?

In any case, how has the AMA utilized the large amount of knowledge already in their possessing regarding executing their mandate as a leader in the development of their constituency?

What can Ghanaian Assemblymen learn in 2 weeks in the US? To begin with, the American local govt system is not only entirely different from ours but their infrastructure is light years ahead of ours so I cant understand or know what lessons they can possibly pick up from this presumably holiday trip.

Americans stopped shitting al fresco in gutters, beaches and public toilets a couple of centuries ago. They also dont give permits to traders to squat on pavements and to build their kiosks anywhere. Above all, in the US, they engage in serious planning of their cities and environment whereas in Ghana the only thing it seems that the AMA Planning Dept plans for, is where to put badly contructed bill-boards that topple over after each rainfall.

Knowing the kind of people who normally become Assemblymen in Ghana, Im even wondering if they will be able to understand the English that will be spoken to them during their stay.

The funny thing about it all is that he Vanderpuiye himself did not seem to have learnt anything useful from the US after spending or rather wasting over 20 years of his life living and working there. His period of being Mayor has like those before him, been riddled with acts of incompetence, buffoonery and downright embarrassing goofs. So one is bound to ask, what are these nothing-doing Assembly-men really going to the US for?

The trick is just get more people learn the good acts of governance, dedication and hard work and world without the daily corrupt activities in Ghana to effect the needed changes.

Yes the Carolinas, South Carolina and or North Carolina, are mirror images of Ghana with the white citizens in command of all power while blacks and other minorities slave as service providers. Dr. Vanderpuje should know because of his own tenure as the Superintendant of schools in South Carolina. Yes these free loaders will return to Ghana loyal to the Vanderpuje administration but they will come back more abreast with the act of exercising preferential treatment on Ghana's citizens without being caught because that is what the folks in the Carolinas are good for; racial animus just as we’ve perfected tribal animus.

Most Ghanaians sent to the USA for such purposes never return. This is a fruitless trip. AMA should rather have brought down one or two lecturers.

Nowadays businesses and government organisations have stopped demanding Secondary School Certificate or Basic Education Certificate.

Each of these certificates are important. For example for many tertiary graduates the only certificate that can tell whether one can speak good English or whether one has adequate knowledge of Mathematics is the Secondary School Certificate.

Similarly the only certificate that can tell whether a tertiary graduate has basic knowledge of Ghanaian history, culture, basic agriculture and the basic geography of West Africa is the Basic Education Certificate.
