For time immemorial, we in Ghana/Africa have been subjected to the vagaries and abuses of the purveyors of religion, be it the traditional African religions or the imported ones, Christianity and Islam. I am glad that more and more Ghanaians are joining the Englightenment Movement to bring Reason and a Rational Order to bear on the lives of the mass of Ghanaians too.

They should not have the sole prerogative to disturb our ears, our sleep and our senses of rational thinking with their cacophonous noises about gods, demons, devils and hellish fire! Ghana is a secular state and the ultimate goal is to make a truly secular state, devoid of the present religious intrusion into our schools and national institutions.

Image my horror and consternation in 1993 when I went to the new post office at Brofoyeduro in Cape Coast only to meet one person on the counter who couldn't serve me cos the Manager had marshalled the staff under duress for a morning prayer session during office hours! I went to the Graphic office to complain but they also told me to write the story for them instead of going to investigate for themselves! Tweah! That country and the people!

Religious superstition and its twin, abject ignorance, are the two most important cogs in the vicious cycle of underdevt and backwardness. The 2 must be fought hand in hand.

As for ideology, you got that wrong too. There is a book out there titled Ideology and Pragmatism by that Kennedy adviser, Schlesinger or so. By the time you are half way through it, you'd have a deeper meaning of it, and know that capitalism was one of the most ideological systems ever devised by man.

Perhaps, what you mean is one should not be dogmatic. Karl Marx is on record as denouncing those who started turning his works into dogmas in his life time, proclaiming that, if that's what the German "Marxists" claimed to be Marxist, then he was no Marxist! Engel spent the rest of his life trying to explain his friend's works to those who had embraced it, or thought they had.

As Christian myself, my sincere point is that everyone who call themselves Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, etc. has been one by default. Every religious person is believing what they hear rather than what they know by themselves to be God.

Having already accepted there is God from some peoples' opinions we are then left with proving a case for those who made the claim. Sadly, we are disputing, trying to find answers that befits some peoples' claim for God rather we actually finding that God on our own. Thus, all our efforts to find God has been some peoples' personal opinions, ideas or experiences, what about if they were wrong? What do we say is God without the bible, quran, etc? If those beliefs were not there, what would have been our individually personal knowledge of God?

Strikingly, we dispute with the atheists even when the foundations of our religious argument is base on peoples' point of view rather than our own. That means independently we do not find God?

This argument for God base on other peoples' knowledge that is passed on to us inadvertently quarantines our sense of reasoning, especially where we see some illogical thoughts in the bible, quran, etc but still follow them without freedom for questioning. Not even the archbishops or professors of religions give room or tolerate any other view point of God that sees differently from the tradition of what Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc or the Jews told them. Could we Christians ourselves prove Moses was right about his thesis on God and creation? Where are the evidence? History tells us a lot even before Moses talked about these Jews being our slaves for 400+ years under Egyptian civilisation. Now Africans have thrown away all these rich literacy and have become subservient to the Jews as intelligent super humans because of religion, following after things without space to really thinking it.
If they were so intelligent than us how could we have enslave them? The Egyptians, originally black Africans balmed corpses about 3000 yrs ago are still preserved till today. And look at us today, the modern African cannot preserve human bodies for even a week without extensive costs because we dumped the knowledge of own going after modernity of foreign literacy and gods.

Without some of these questions answered rightly in our own individual knowledge of existence of God, it would not worth any while to unnecessarily argue with peoples' thoughts or opinion in bibles, Qurans, etc.

In 1428 his bones were torn from the grave in Lutterworth churchyard by the English bishop at the command of the Pope, burned to ashes, thrown into the river Swift, and from there they were carried from brook to river, river to ocean.
Now Christians read the blasphemous English bible more than the latin one.

What about those people who 'saw' God before us were wrong? Is there no room to know God outside being in default to what the Jews say? So you think becoming Christian makes one incapable of knowing God from simply reasoning? In Romans 2:11-14, with emphasis on verse 14, don't the bible talks about people who unconsciously obey the 'law' without necessarily being Christians are not sinners. What then is the law or God here? Even the bible pointing out clearly, did say that with our own conscience by nature know God without the bible whether we believe in the bible or not. My brother being Christian don't make us dummies or unreasonable humans to question our beliefs. Can we know God ourselves where as we are not atheists, rather than someone telling us who God should be like and, stop auto cruising on histories base on peoples' like Moses's opinions? If somebody made a watch, computer, tv, etc. it does NOT prove that somebody must also have made a man, a goat, the universe and that somebody is God. That is not a logical argument. We have no logical reason to assume that somebody made man or goat or moon.

Today, the science of Evolution has explained how living things come to be on earth far better than the Bible or the Quran ever did. The science of Astronomy and Astro-Physics have a far better explanation of the universe and how it came about (cosmos) that any religious book has ever done. These better explanations make absolutely no reference to God. And best of all, these scientific explanations never make the claim that they have the absolute answers to these questions. They are ready to change their views with more available data and knowledge.

Scientists NEVER make any claims for themselves. Scientists NEVER say they create things out of nothing or even out of something. Scientists never claim they can make an ant. It is people like you who make such claims on behalf of God.

Scientists just try to discover what laws there are in nature, why certain thing are the way they are, what explanations there can be for phenomena and how correct or wrong they can be in their estimations and explanations. No scientist ever claimed that he has created anything. Scientists have assembled things to make other things using the laws they have discovered are already there in nature. They never claim that they created those laws themselves. They never say it is a God sitting somewhere who made those laws because, unlike you, they don't know that or have any evidence of that.

You, Odiyifo, are the ones making all the claims. Just give us the evidence for those claims.

I find this whole religious nonsense to be so patently stupid that I sometimes want to puke! I don't understand why any sane person will take the religious charad seriously. Consider that people go to church and listen to pastors who fleece them of their money and pretend to have messages from God. These leaders take the money and live ostentatious lifestyles which these people see everyday. So it stands to reason to conclude that these worshipers are aware of the playacting and fraudulence going on in these churches. At the same time, the worshipers accept the playacting and fraudulence in good faith and perpetuate the hypocrisy by thinking that these religious leaders are going to lead them to salvation. They don't bother to think beyond the scope of what somebody has told them of the Bible. And they vehemently condemn those who see the truth and articulate it.
The sheep and their shepherds always make me want to puke. I wish I were as stupid as they are; then I can live in a fool's paradise like them.

The problem of the atheists is that they construe god in anthropormorphic, biblical or quranic terms and discard him/her, using so-called holy scripture as their platform for the rejection.
There is a clear dichotomy between established religion and the belief in god which I think is personal, varied and undefined.....Do not morph the two.
I believe in god, not as a disembodied being residing somewhere, but as a conscience and a force for doing the most good for the most people at the most time. My belief is not based on the scripture, but on the presumption that doing good will give me my peace of mind and make the world a better place for all.....
The atheists should project humanism as their form of religion and stop their opposition of what others choose to believe. They obnubilate their message with a cacophonic chatter about the non-existence of god when the definition of god is different and personal for everybody. Atheism should not have as its focus an attack over a belief. That takes away from its appeal. The non-existence of god is to the extent that no single concept or entity called god exists anywhere. Even the most presumptuous of religions admit the infinite nature of god. That means they don't have a clue of god, what it is or who it is. So why spend time educate people that something does not exist when they themselves have already admitted that they don't know how or what it is.

The 'unquestioning culture' in Christianity is really a bother. The religious books are all other peoples' just like us opinions of God, what about our own personal opinion without the bibles, Qurans, etc?

Even the bible talks about knowing God outside the bible in Romans 2:14, that those who 'unconsciously obey the law' outside God's expressed commandments are still righteous by which Jesus the overall boss entertained that freedom of individually personally knowing who Jesus is outside others opinion. This Jesus asked his disciples other peoples' opinion of him Jesus and then the disciples' own opinion or knowledge of him. In Matthew 16:13-15, Mark 8:27-29, 'Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?' and 'But whom say ye that I am?' said Jesus.

So what is it that makes one righteous without necessarily religious? Sorry to repeat but just like Socrates and Euthyphro's debate about piety, what is that one must do to be righteous that cuts across all manner of colour, race, bible, quran, tithes, religion, Jew, etc? Could that 'do thing' be the God we looking to find?

I am not here to argue or debate on theism or atheism as well as gnostic or agnostic. My response is based solely on the thrust of your post, which I have copied and pasted here.

Firstly, to me it would be pointless on my part to debate anyone who has come to conclusion that there is NO God. When someone has made up his mind, I see no reason why anyone should even consider to debate or reason with him on the subject that he has already come to conclusion.

Secondly, the question of theism or religion is based on FAITH. So one can spend unfruitful endless hours trying to reason with someone who does not share the same faith with him or her. Even it would be pointless for a baptist to reason with a Mormon, how much more an atheist?

So based on what you wrote up there, will you call Ghanaian voters STUPID? Before answering that question, be cognizant with the fact that, every 4 years, Ghanaians wake up as early as 5 am and queue to vote for their respective presidential candidates with the hope that the winner would bring changes in the country. Yet, every 4 years, the politicians or the leaders come and spend on themselves, families and friends forgetting about those who put them in power without doing anything for the country.

Even though, Mahama has done nothing for Amina or Mansa, yet come 2016, the Amina and Mansa will wake up early on election day to go and vote for their candidates, with the HOPE, again, with the HOPE that something good will come out of it.

If YES, why don't you write on this "FAKE" democracy and ask that it should be abolished?

If NO, why then do you want to puke when the same people keep on going to Church with the HOPE, again, with the HOPE, somehow, the position in life would be changed?

In religion, people assert unquestionable and ossified faith passed on to them by their leaders who are generally fraudulent. In politics, the faith is neither unquestionable nor ossified, and can and do change with time.
The people are not stupid because they do vary the forms of their government according to changed circumstances. Democracy should not be abolished because despite its multifarious problems, we don't know of a better form of government.

He still rejected the idea of the afterlife, the resurrection and Jesus and god as a source of good. He remained critical of religion till death (esp. Islam). He referred to the gods of christianity and islam as "cosmic Saddam Hussiens".

Also I don't support GMOs because I don't think there has been adequate research on it's side effects (if there are any); but you are ignorant and need to educate yourself on GMOs. They are not "weaponised" food nor would they poison you or wipe you off your land. They are crops modified to withstand harsh conditions (like drought and heat) or produce a greater yield than their non-GMO counterparts. Ghana has actually been using then for a long time. There is my valuable comment on GMO.

Keep in mind that he was old and close to his death when this happened. An awareness of his mortality may have cause this emotional response.
