Dr Bawamia has very good training that could benefit his country immensely but has found himself pinned to disoriented politicians and at the end of the day, unfortunately, he would make no impact to his country's development. Because lectures and speeches have never built nations.
These kind of things are mere academic exercises that only showcase knowledge which at best is fallow. Find job in the system and contribute your best to the society because you seem to attach your self to some kind of arrogant group where you don't actually belong and is hurting you.
You are growing, don't align yourself to people who have smeared themselves already with arrogance and drugs stigma. Find a job with the state and contribute positively and be a role model than following politics in the wrong direction. A word to the wise is enough.

Stop your stupid hatred of academics. Higher education is meant to produce creative thinkers, not entrepreneurs. In your ignorance, you attribute all the problems we have in this country to academic theories. But while "academic theories" are not enough, they provide systematic tools to analysing the many faces of a problem, forecasting future events and finding appropriating solutions.
Do you realise that while the great IT inventors in the US may be university drop-outs, they hire the best-trained engineers, even anthropologists, to provide knowledge and innovation for business expansion.
In contrast, instead of deploying the knowledge and managerial talents of the highly-educated, a less-educated Ghanaian starts a small company, makes small money, thinks he has arrived without much education, and starts hating on and disrespecting academics. Yet, look at the few successful Ghanaian companies that are going global. They all employ highly-educated people.
Finally, it's academic theories that allowed Western governments and multinationals to dominate the world for so long. And, contrary to what you think, it's the NDC's anti-intellectualism that's creating further mess for the economy.

The premier university of Ghana - The University of Ghana Legon sadly does not appear in the top
500 universities on earth. This must be corrected immediately. The university in order to achieve this must improve:
1) Faculty student ratio
2) The number of research projects it carries out
3) The test scores of its entry class (internationally normalised)
4) Employers' review of performance of its graduates (local and abroad)
5) Peer review by other universities

Yours is a mistaken expectation. A great intellectual doesn't necessarily make a competent leader. The problem in this country is that we don't know the value of, and how to use, our intellectuals. Leadership sometimes requires quick action. In contrast, intellectuals turn to be slow to act and act only after seriously pondering over a matter to understand its ramifications. Intellectuals can help government and business leaders by simulating and analysing future situations and providing alternative courses of action given any situation.

The realisation of the leadership ambitions of some NPPIANS, may yet be possible but highly unlikely. Bawumia's humility, poise, conduct and positive contributions to the NPP party and the country by his clearest examples so far, put him in a pole position for any future leadership contest. He ranks far ahead of all the "GREAT PRETENDERS" and others; whose actions, inactions and utterances tend to undermine confidence in the authenticity of their commitment to the NPP course. The Nana Addo/Bawumia Ticket is the best and Dr. Bawumia though a brilliant economist, is carefully understudying Nana Addo, whose "MR CLEAN track record in contemporary Ghanaian politics, is undeniably worthy of emulation. I believe together they are reviewing some of the more promising strategies for 2016 for the good of Ghana. As exemplified by his contributions at the Supreme Court and the resulting "DARLING STATUS" achieved by his incredible performance and wit, he has already assumed a place ahead of anymore distant relatives of the NPP family. The extraordinary intervention of the SC Petition has rightly displaced anybody who stubbornly regards himself/herself as heir/heiress apparent to Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo. Dr. Bawumia in the view of his absolute goodness, gentleness, patience and intellectual acumen is surely a future president God willing. MAY GOD BLESS GHANA OUR MOTHERLAND.

Was this man not at the Bank of Ghana before? What was his track record.....And how come he is being elevated above his bosses who have much more experience.....? Because of politics? If it is about his academic degrees, there are 1000s of Ghanaians out there with impeccable TERMINAL degrees in Economics from more prestigious institutions.....Is it because they are not into politics? For economics to work in favor of the majority of the people, it must be refected through the constraints of politics. That is the reason why I would prefer political-economists to both untrammeled "economists" and unfettered "political scientists."
Political economists are able to temper unfetterd neoclassical economics with the demands of political rationality in order to maximize outputs to the benefit of the people.
Bawumia, in his pristine western neo-classical economic calculations will be nothing but a mouthpiece of the IMF's punishing economic prescriptions.

Anyone who believes Dr. Bawumia has anything substantive to provide in his yapping session tomorrow is likely to buy into Ghana-made bull. Dr. Bawumia and other Ghanaians claiming to be economists do know that in the US, Canada and Western European nations, economic and monetary policies of the respective national governments are set by economic bodies independent of the ruling governments of the time/day. Ghana's economy is suffering because it has operated under a rather shaky quicksand foundation for years. For NPP loyalists, Ghana was in economic heaven during Kufour’s era; they forget most of our outstanding debts were written off by our donors even as we were put under economic supervision of world organizations as if Ghana was a dependent childish nation. As a beggar nation, therefore, we did not have to pay debts that other governments would have otherwise had to pay. The freed-up money is what Kufour used to shore-up his future unfunded mandates which became albatross around the necks of proceeding governments.
Economic foundations matter and the ills of our poor and unstable economic foundation will continue irrespective of temporary fixes. The NPP of today can promise Ghanaians of a wonderful Ghana all they want but unless and until the foundations of Ghana's economy is on solid footing we will be engaged in economic crap shoot or voodoo economics each election cycle forward. Those who have heard of only lower taxation spares economic growth will repeat the same crap in Ghana even as they fail to realize that the inflow of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) mostly become a reality when there is existence of some reasonable infrastructure for production based businesses to grow. For example would a car manufacturer, a farm processing plant or data processing company move into Ghana where labor is cheap? No because we do not have reliable safe roads, reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity, drinking pipe-borne water system and the robust telecommunications network to deal with the bandwidth of data that can handle traffic on our existing system by Vodafone and others. The land minerals resources that help keep the value of Ghana’s currency up is no longer ours and or going up in value like they used to be.
What good does the prices of diamond, gold, oil, gas and other mined minerals and natural resources on the global economic market do for Ghana anyway? As a nation we do not own even 30% of these commodities anyway. So the full weight of financial or monetary returns goes to the foreign companies who own every last one of our God-given golden eggs as we collect nickels. Our lack of development and the value of our money is just an allusion because if the markets on those commodities are high but the government is not getting enough benefits, national developments suffer even as we pretend the value of our currency is high. The question we should be asking is who benefits the most from a higher cedi value if there is no free floating liquid cash on the Ghanaian market and are proportional investments in Ghana from all the realized income? All the crap both NPP and NDC offer during election is band aid that petty businesses can make quick bucks but those are not long lasting economic activities. Dr. Bawumia is just a modern day pied-piper leading unsophisticated Ghanaians who worship PhD titles to their demise.
I challenge people to read the annual financial statements of Vodafone and of the goldmines, oil and gas owners and tell where the profits are going relative to investments in Ghana.
