IF ELECTRICITY IS EXPENSIVE, WHO IS THEIR RIGHT MIND WILL LEAVE THEIR APPLIANCES? OR YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO TURN OFF THEIR FRIDGES AND GADGETS FOR WORK. ELECTRICITY WAS ABUNDANT IN THE EARLY YEARS BECAUSE THERE WERE NOT MANY PEOPLE OR GADGETS. THE POOR CITIZENS GET THE POWER SHORTAGES WHILE THE LEADERS WALLOW IN LUXURY WITH 24/7 POWER SUPPLY FROM THE UTILITY COMPANIES AND GENERATORS. HYPOCRISY AT ITS BEST. HE SHOULD TELL HIS MPs AND MINISTERS TO CONSERVE ENERGY JUST LIKE ANYONE IN THE COUNTRY.

who in his/her right sense will turn off his fridge when going to work. For your information the minister did not ask Ghanaians to turn off their fridges when going to work. Just turn off the unused gadgets when going to work. Or did you expect him to mention the gadgets one by one? That would be very petty. Any human being who has common sense will know that he didn't mean turning off your fridge when in use. Let stop politicizing and be serious for once. God Bless Ghana.

Ghana has three hydroelectric dams: Akosombo dam, Kpong hydroelectric dam and the newly constructed Bui dam. Aside this we have the Aboadze power and Takoradi power plants. We need to quadruple our electricity production within the next four years.
However what is disturbing is that the additional power being generated is not being used by our industries or consumers. We supply Togo and Benin through two grids one in the south and one in the North. We also supply ivory coast and Burkina Faso with electricity. Inspite of this the cost of electricity to the average consumer has not declined and many would tell you that it is very expensive. There is another thing I don't understand. The government sometimes tells us there is power crises meanwhile electricity supply to other countries from Ghana continues unabated.
A look at the national electricity grid would tell you straight away that the Akyem districts in the Eastern Region have been cheated.

The electricity problem of Ghana started in the 80s. Those were the days we first tasted load shedding. Nevertheless supply has been expanded to cover a lot of Ghanaians. As a result of the expansion the generation capacity was increased as well.
Thereafter load-shedding has come to stay. This being a sign that supply is not adequate for the demand. Despite this obvious sign the response of Ghanaians to the use of electricity has being on the contrarily. The lifeststyle over the last 10 years or more has being for air-condition buildings all over the place. Homes ,offices, churches, kiosks, and name them are now all air-conditioned. No one is saying we should not enjoy air-condition but what is available should determine the use. However we need to use this principle as to whether our usage is necessary or good or just nice in any particular situation. By this we will be acting appropriately to conserve enough electricity to meet our necessary needs.
