Akosa's idea is just a pipe-dream, it has no compelling arguments. The answer to Accra's congestion is the decentralization of the governance structure in Ghana, not merely moving the capital to the centre of nowhere for no other reason than it is the centre. How many countries are there that you can count on one hand that have their capitals at the centre of the country? There are and there will be better things to spend our money on than just tinkling with moving the capital to the centre of the country for the sole objective of moving it to the centre...haba Akosa come again. Folks, this idea is corrupt elements like Asiedu Nketia dream come true; did you see how he sat on the board of Bui Dam and still sold cement blocks to them....classical case of conflict of interest? Any such capital project will provide the opportunity for corrupt elements to fleece the country like never before and again siphon unprecedented funds to foreign companies a la STX-Korea, Waterville and Woyome style. Scrap it. If Accra is congested for you, don't go and live there.
It is the governance structure, simple as that. Decentralize it, let the people elect their own representatives to govern them, at every layer and level of governance instead of the current crony opportunism that places all powers in the hands of one man in Accra, to the extent that he appoints even 30% of district assemblies members plus their chief executives. That is what is wrong not just moving the capital to the centre when you don't even have tro to maintain the one that you have got, plus having huge infrastructure deficit everywhere in the country. Let's fix the economy, create jobs for people all over the country, instead of concentrating every thing in Accra, and people will stay wherever they are and not move to Accra. What guarantee is there that if you move the capital to the centre, and we don't change the way we do things,we wouldn't recreate the same congestion problem facing Accra? It would be like installing an old man to replace a dearly departed old chief. It is the funeral that you would have postponed in all seriousness, as it is bound to happen again in a very short time. Tweaaaaa!!

I strongly agree with your opinion. True and proper decentralization, could solve much of the the congestion in Accra.
However, why couldn't such relocation of the Capital be part of the decentralization? We could do so and additionally decentralize, if only our financial management can provide it all without burdening our Economy too much further.
Surely, at this point we have better priorities to attend to. Getting the Economy on track supersedes such a grandiose plan. And why should we not begin now to reconstruct our sewage and drainage system to cover the whole Nation but only consider that for a New Capital? I have long suggested we undertook a modern national wastewater treatment and subterranean drainage system to sanitize our towns and villages and cities. The deplorable hygiene around us has been a huge hinderance to increased Tourism and general good Health of the people.
We would be living in a healthier environment that could reduce the level of diseases that usually afflict us; we would and cut down on importation of drugs and health cost, in general.

We cannot run the nation this way. Anything that does not originate with NPP or Akuffo-Addo does not have merit or is as you describe it a " hollow pipe-dream".
Prof. Akosa's idea is far from a hollow pipe-dream. It makes a hell lots of sense; compelling arguments that would take paragraphs to exhaust.
. Needless to say, there are two compelling reasons for sititing the nation's capital far from the present location:
1. The vulnerability of Accra to perennial flooding - with the likelihood of climate change, Oyokoba, we should expect devastating sea rise to annihilate the low lying parts of Accra.
2. Yeti, Kingtampo and Atebubu corridors provide expansive uninterrupted access to the Volta Lake which we should milk to our advantage, especially to create internal ports to haul our natural resources. The multiplier effects of the jobs that the relocation of our capital would unleash will definitely end our youth unemployment.
We should set up a parliamentary select committee to look into relocating Accra, including using the Volta Lake as an access point to the new capital.

We need to deal with the low hanging fruits first (and God knows we have plenty of those) – it takes a lot of studying, planning and money to move a capital. We’ve done that move before but then everyone moved to Accra because it may not have been well thought out. Abuja may be working for the Nigerians because they had “OIL” money and perhaps better planning put into it.
What needs to be done is start decentralizing – putting different ministries near where they belong and are most effective, as well as folks not needing to travel to a certain location to conduct business. Establish local offices as well as other ways of achieving the same access – for example online access, effective mail access etc., basically reduce in person activities. We are in a new age, where brick & mortar offices/shops are going out of style. Hmmm… but a lot of that requires some basic education and a solid infrastructure to achieve, and we are not there yet. So maybe that is where we need to focus.

Prof is not the first person to propose the relocation of the Administrative capital to somewhere between the Northern Region and the Brong Ahafo Region. The area he is proposing is very ideal for this project. It has most of the features of Abuja namely sparsely populated with lots of uninhabited land; mountainous landscapes to ensure maximum security and prevent coup d'etats; centrally located to make governance accessible to the majority of Ghanaians. Accra is sitting on an earthquake zone but this enclave in the centre of Ghana is simply unique. We can learn from the Nigerians. They started shifting the political administration to Abuja by bits and today Abuja is a first class city that is accessible to all Nigerians.

The good Prof has proffered some great ideas at these lectures and has not caved in to all the personal and tribal/political insults. As they say, great minds think about great ideas not events.
I share Prof's thoughts because the future for Accra is bleak. We can't all continue to troop to Accra for everything all the time. The congestion is so bad and the pressure on the limited infrastructure will crumble it. Physical development has been so skewed to the South one would think the rest of the nation does not exist. Previous administrations have ignored the obvious and some have made it even worse by allowing an enterprise such as the Accra Mall to be sited on the busiest road in Accra instead of the outskirts to take the traffic away.
All important activities take place in that one place called Accra which is bursting at the seams. All MPs, Ministers, Deputies, Directors, Everybody wants to be in Accra, aba. If u live in Bole and u want a passport, Accra, u want to travel abroad, Accra, u want to attend a conference, Accra.
The Prof has raised very important issues and we need think tanks to develop these further. Its just not good enough to say, it cannot be done, it can. Were we to be more careful with our resource allocation, we would turn this country around in no time.
We should also be bold enough to deal with the question of a national language, devoid of parochial interests. Just imagine how many engineers, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, thinkers, and other experts we could produce if text books were written in one of our own languages, and teaching was done in a national language.
To move Ghana forward to leave a decent legacy, please let us think, let us by all means argue and debate our points. One thing we should never do is to turn every topic into infantile NDC/NPP, Akyem, Bono, Asante, Ga, Ewe nonsense. Those who do that have nothing to contribute to intelligent debate, nor national development.

I wholeheartedly support the idea of adopting one of our indigenous languages as our national language. English is a foreign language, a colonial legacy which we need to consign to history. We do not speak it well, and it does not facilitate expression of our thoughts and feelings, hopes and aspirations.
Our rich, expressive and poetic local languages would serve us beautifully as a national language and help instil that sense of pride in being Ghanaian and African.
English is for Anglo-Saxons. Let them keep their language, and let us enjoy ours.

A policeman sends his wife and kid to a resort for a vacation. After a week he joined them in the hotel. As soon as he came to the hotel room he wanted to make love to his wife and gave her “the look”. Whispering under her breath, the wife says “No darling, we can’t do it here, our kid is watching!” Husband replies, “You’re right, let’s go to the beach.”
After a while they make their way to the beach, they start to make love on an empty beach. All of a sudden, a policeman walks up to them. “Put your cloths on immediately, shame on you, you can’t do that in public!” Embarrassed, the husband admits “You are right, but I had a moment of weakness. We hadn’t seen each other for an entire week. Now, I’m a policeman too, and it would be very embarrassing if you fine me.”
The cop thought for a second and said “Don’t worry… you are a colleague and it’s your first time. But this is the third time I caught this bitch making love on this beach in the last week and she will have to pay.”
ITS MORE THAN THREE TIMES WE HAVE BEEN CAUGHT TALKING ABOUT BUILDING A NEW CAPITAL AND WE HAVE TO PAY.
WE HAVE BEEN EMBARRASSED WITH OUR KIDS STUDYING UNDER TREES AND WE CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER HOTEL BUT WE ARE THINKING OF ANOTHER BUILDING.

GADANGMES STOP SLEEPING AND WAKE UP!!!
Gadangmes soon you will be landless/tenants on your own land and your language will disappear/extinct and have no culture. Any person without culture is a foreigner. This is my call for you to wake up and stop sleeping-you have been sleeping for far too long soon you will be no more if you don’t pay hid to my advice. Wake up and shine your eyes. Twi people say their intentions in Accra is “simple”- buy the whole of Accra lands and push you into the sea-because you Gadangmes are fools and will sell everything you have, lazy, don’t like work and above all you live in the filthiest parts of the capital. A word to a wise is enough.
Gadangmes home/abroad should petition government re our language
Gadangmes home and abroad should officially meet the president and petition the scaling of Akan Twi broadcasting air time in GT.Accra to 10% or 20
% if we are serious with the decline and to promote the Gadangme language in the region .Government should know how serious we are with this matter. Please let any future government know how we will soon make this a campaign issue if unchecked. We have every right under the constitution to protect our culture.
Every public position in government/Accra occupied by Akans (Twi) people and these Akans are using every power and authority to prevent anything Ga in Gt.Accra though we the Ga have warmly and openly embrace them to live with us-we are watching and waiting-the day the heavens of Accra will open men will weep and nash their teeth.
Gadangme Language
? It is a taboo to speak Twi in GT.Accra. Twi is alien to the region and Accra is not a Twi region-we hate the promotion of Twi language in Accra by our Twi brothers & sisters and from Twi politicians and their opinion leaders.
? Twi people stop promoting Twi language in GT.Accra. Accra is not an extension of your regions/villages and will never be one-we hate this attitude of yours.
? We the natives/Gadangmes of the region hate the promotion of Twi language in GT.Accra by our Akan brothers and sisters and we will not let this go on without a fight.
? My brothers and sisters of Twi decent-if you do not want to speak Gadangme whist co-habiting with us in Accra, you can go back/relocate to your villages/regions and preserve your language. You are not under any compulsion to settle in Accra. And just to let you know; we have every right under the constitution of Ghana to protect our culture us Gadagme people. If you want to preserve yours why do you intend to change ours?
? Gadangmes stop encouraging the promotion of Twi speaking in GT.Accra-our Gadangme brothers and sisters in the diaspora are teaching their children our culture and the language and you back home encouraging Twi people to be imposing their language on you and you are also spaeaking it in Accra-SHAME on you- what is the logic in this? Twi should be spoken in Twi regions not in GT.Accra-
? Speak back Gadangme to them if they say they don’t understand tell them they better learn. Never speak Twi with them.
? Don’t allow any Twi person to interview you in Twi- we live in our region and no one has the prerogative to interview you in Twi-it must be Gadangme or English.
? Tell the Twi people not to carry out their dominant behaviour from Accra. The region belongs to us and not even the government of Ghana - take control of it. If they want to promote Twi speaking they can take this to their back yard. Twi people- allow us to reap the benefit of hosting the capital.
? Twi people- Accra does not belong to you it is your administrative capital and it has owners-respect the owners of the land. If you want the capital at your backyard so you can dominate the whole Ghana it is your own cup of tea. We can’t even manage the smallest region of the ten and you are considering bigger options- this is a political non-starter.
? We Gadangmes –will make this a political campaign come 2016 and beyond. Our language must be spoken in Accra at all times if you don’t want to speak our language whilst co-habiting with us- relocate to your villages. You have no rights what so ever to be imposing you dialect on we Gadangmes-this is not done anywhere in the world. You respect and learn your host culture whilst you cohabitate with them not the other way run-this is unacceptable.
? Stop invading us in Accra-would you Twi people have allowed this dispositions/freedom you are enjoying in Accra if the capital was in your back yard- No? Learn how to develop your regions. Accra has indigenes and they need space to expand we cannot confirm to the coastal belt only. The political mechanisation of selling and taking our lands must stop-for the day the heavens of Accra will open-men will weep and nash their teeth.
? You move home and settle in Accra-invest your energy and resources and latter turn round suggesting the nation’s capital be moved to your Twi regions because you believe Ghana belongs to you-what kind of people are you. Today all facilities in Accra are over stretched-from cemeteries, schools, health centres etc etc.
? Gadangmes don’t expect any of your political representatives to take on this big challenge-they are afraid (don’t have the balls) to do this thus, being label as tribalist and frustrating government efforts. Take to the streets and demand your rights—warm any government in power we will make Accra ungovernable and difficult for them if this broadcasting regulations are not adhere to in the capital & land issues resolved. We Gadangmes don’t want Twi broadcasting in our region-period. Stop Twi broadcasting in GT.Accra
? As for you Gadangmes influential persons in the government who thwart every effort by gadangmes youth demanding our constitutional rights regarding land protection and preservation of our language; we know you all and will soon publish your names-but the day the heavens of Accra will open you will run and find nowhere to hide.
? Gadangmes in government and influential positions have no balls to take on this fight they fear being ladled as tribalist and not completing government efforts. Gadangme youth need to take up this fight yourself and you need Acentric leaders not the ones you see around if you want to see any result/change.
? If this is untrue, why haven’t you see any change since we started this fight? Threaten the government with your votes if your demands are not met.
? For those Twi (Akan) tribes who think Gadangmes don’t have the rights to raise any grievances regarding rights to language and lands and think the only solution is move the capital from Accra to your Akan TRIBAL (Twi) speaking areas - bring it on and I’ll lead the crusade.
? Twi radio stations in GT.Accra
? We Gadangmes hate Twi broadcasting in our region. GT.Accra is not a Twi region and we want all twi radio broadcasting air time scale back 20%-English is our lingual franca, alternatively other major dialects must be given adequate air time-if needs. We know owners of theses twi radio stations have warned employees not to speak Gadangme on their stations hence risked being sacked.
? Twi influential persons in the broadcasting services corporations in Ghana who are frustrating any attempt by Gadanmes to establish Gadangme radio stations in the capital be warned-the day the heavens of Accra will open-you will run and find nowhere to hide-our wrath will surely visit you-you will not be spared. We know you all and have your names-will soon make this available.
? Those Gadngmes who have leased your homes to these Twi bigots to be using your premises to promote Twi speaking in GT.Acrra-be warned.
GT.Accra MPs
1.It is imperative Gadangmes must ensure all political parties in greater Accra have 90% of Gadangmes in any political endeavours in the region.
2. Need to ensure we have proportional representation in all public/private sectors business-we host the capital and we must benefit from this.
Currently, non-natives of the region particularly (Twi) people are scrambling for every leadership positions in Greater Accra- some of which by default must be represented by us e.g. our parliamentarians-we must fight back and we will fight back.
3. Please allow us to reap the benefit of hosting the capital- you cannot snatch every opportunity from us simply because Accra is our capital.
Accra has indigenes and they deserve respect/survival. I don’t care what ever logic you Akan (Twi) people deduct from this. If you want to be an MP return to your native region and contest. It is ethically wrong to have your natives’ represented in parliament then compete with Gadangmes in Greater Accra environs- this is unfair.
4. Gadangmes in the diaspora and at home must petition government to ensure 90% of Greater Accra parliamentarians are indigenes. Non-native should contest seats in their native home and not in Greater Accra-the current trend must change. All political parties must respect this. Greater Accra region is for the natives and it’s their constitutional rights to be represented by them and not non-natives’ I don’t care whatever logic you deduct from this.
5. The only consideration- is to (allow) 1-10% of parliamentary seats to other minorities who consider themselves as Ghana nationals reasons being constitutional and reside in Greater Accra.
6. Those Twi MPs you have elected in GT.Accra join their Twi Caucus in parliament and fight for things Akan in parliament at the detriment of Gadangme people-why vote them there? This is the reasons why so many problems in GT.Acccra- unsolved such land, your language etc
7.To present day- they have settled in most Ga rural areas lands you have sold to them; and are now calling for voting MCEs,MMCs,DCEs etc –part of their ploy to be control you in Accra because they are the majority there-wake up and open your eyes.
8. You are just selling lands without taking serious considerations into accounts such landless of next generation into consideration.
9.We don’t want Twi MPs in GT.Accra-they don’t represent our interest and Gadangmes stop voting these tribal bigots to represent us in parliament. They join their Twi (Akan) caucus once they get to parliament then begin to frustrate efforts rather than help resolve any issues affecting Gadagnmes such land and language. Take a close look at all the Twi MPs representing GT.Accra and single out anyone who has seriously/single handled taken up any issues/concern of Gadangme people. I know you Gadanmes will vote non-natives again to parliament against your own people come-2016.
Makola market
? Gadangme take back Makola market-governor Griffith built the market for the indigenes. AMA must ensure the Rawlings Park is converted to market and given back to the Gadanmes to resume their business. The old market was demolished under the supervision of the state in 1979 and state money must be used to rebuilt and given back to the Gadanmes.
? I’m not against any non- natives selling at the market -far from that-but if I may ask does the market has to be taken over by them from the indigenes? No-this is the case. Don’t we have right to sell in our own market. We are watching and waiting. Why are twi people so greedy-using your political mechanisation to take everything from we Gadanmes on our land-where can this happen/tolerated? Don’t we have rights to survive just like you? When we begin to react you call this tribalism and creating tensions and insecurity in the capital.
Land
? Government& government officials, Gadangmes representatives at the land commission, public official, Gadagnmes chiefs etc who connive and promote the stealing and selling of Gadangmes lands with impunity-the day the heavens of Accra will open you will run and find nowhere to hide-we have all your names-we are watching and waiting.
? Gadagmes I wonder how you lease off your lands at sums/money you can disposal of in couple of months for 99 years-a period of 4 generations to allow blocks and cement to be planted on the land at the expense of your farming occupations/activities. Something is seriously wrong with you-wake up. Lease these lands for reasons that will bring you more income or develop them.
Gadangmes influential persons and those who betray our course
? We know all those are frustrating our course and we shall soon publish your names-keep dragging our feet instead of advising those involved to desist from their tracts-which is suffocating Gadanmes and making them poorer and landless. The day the heavens of Accra will open-our wrath will visit you
? Those Gadangme youth leaders who betray the course of Gadangmes plights by joining those opposing/championing our obliteration from the national profile by taking bribes thence, thwarting our efforts-the day the heavens of Accra will open you will run and find nowhere to hide. You are the ones we are looking for-and we will soon get you-we know all of you by the way. Remember we are all in this together.
? Your betrayal to our course is not encouraging and frustrating our course, be warned! Be warned! Be warned!
? STOP AKNANISATION OF GT. ACCRA.THE REGION IS NOT A TWI REGION and I don’t care what logic you deduct from this.Gadangmes -WAKE UP.
? I urge all Gadamges youth to demonstrate/petition the president at his official residence against dominance/forceful imposition of Twi language in the capital by Twi Akan politicians. This is unacceptable and has a dare consequence. Continue to take us for granted-we will soon explode and the capital will not contain us.
? Today in Accra we have rural migrants into the city imposing their way of life on the advanced South-this’s not acceptable in anywhere in the world.
? Gadangmes, our language defines us- let’s protect it at cost.
? The rest of the country is behind you-no worries. They agree with you Accra is your space and you need to act.
? GAdangmes-love yourselves and support each other.
Gamantse I’ve spoken-I rest my case.

Oh my word......do you still have such barbarians in this 21st century world. Have you forgotten that it is the akans who hold the economic power in this country. Apart from being the capital and being lavished with the largest share of the nations revenue, what has Accra got to offer on its own. How much gold, cocoa, timber, oil, diamond or anything good does Accra produce? Is tena alone not made up of about 70% fantis? What about the ashantis and bonos and kwehus in other parts of the city of Accra? Even we are not complaining. Gadagmes exclusion from Ghana politics
? We are 8% of Ghana’s population. The current administration have only 2 Gadangmes ministerial positions out of 18.And out of the 35 deputy minsters we have 1or 2 Gadangmes. Out of countless diplomatic missions (ambassadors) post abroad there is only 1or 2 Gadangmes. Majorities of government positions occupied by Akans (Twi) Northerners and Ewes.
? This is our reward for providing our land for government to run its administration and generously embrace every Ghanaian to live and settle with us. Soon this is about to change and any party will have to earn our support-days when you will use us a dump us is coming to an end. Please read through the lines-new generation of Gadangmes emerging. If you want to move the capital you are welcome-after all what do we gain for hosting the capital.
? Can someone explain to me why all government official positions in the country occupied by Akan (Twi) people including any positions in Accra-the capital as well? We the indigenes have any right to these as well? Do we have to loose everything just because Accra is the capital?
? Accra is not a Twi region and Twi people must know this. You can’t occupy every official/government positions in your region and Accra as well.
? Akan (Twi) people Ghana does not belong to you. Parts of Ghana that belong to you are your regions. Stop promoting Akanisation of Ghana from Accra. Accra is not a Twi region and will not be one. Respect indigenes of the region and their culture-or else Accra will soon not contain all of us. STOP promoting Akanisation of Ghana from Accra.
? Stop promoting Twi language in GT.Accra-we the Gadangmes hate this big time. If you co-habitate with us you must speak our language and not yours-if you don’t want to speak it - move back to your region. Accra is you administrative capital not your home town.
? Stop turning GT.Accra into a Twi region-Accra is not a Twi region and a Gadangme region-we Gadangmes hate this.
Gadangmes excluded from Natioal Team/score
Today in Accra Twi migrants to the south are planting blocks and cement in every Ga space which were previously used by the youth to train and play football including Ga community centre-hence decline preventing our youth in developing and realising their talents/skills-we are watching and waiting . Today there is no Gadangme in Ghana’s national team all Akan Twi people. The entire GFA represented bt Akans.
The entire national team headed and represented by Twi people. Today in Ghana every public office headed by Akans Twi people. This was the practice prior to the revolution in 1979 then Akans (Twi) became main casualties. This practice is again rearing its ugly head again in Ghana’s social and political fibre.
May God forbid-but should there be any social/political upheaval, you will begin to cry as the main casualties.

The unity of our dear country must not be compromised for any political gain. We must respect every tribe in the country and avoid playing on the minds of those who have not been lucky to have any formal education for our selfish earns. Any politician who is sensible and love GHANA must stop pointing at where TRIBAL POLITICS might have come from, because that will not take us anywhere. Another person will come and point at another direction. The fact is that, today we all know it is not a good thing to do and must be discouraged, rather than use it to our selfish advantage. The unity of our dear nation is more important than the survival of any political grouping. Ghana has been there long before any of these parties (which have a lot of selfish and insincere individuals) were formed. Ghana will be there when they are long gone. Let us sincerely pledge our loyalty to GHANA rather than a political party. How sincere are most of the members of these parties when it comes to stewardship with things of the nation? RESPECT AND EMBRACE EVERY TRIBE. In that lies the STRENGTH of OUR NATION. With that we will DEVELOP, HAVE PEACE and be WEALTHY. LONG LIVE GHANA.

I think majority of the country's social, economic, and spacial problems could be resolved if the Districts are developed.
With the necessary national and local laws in place, and adoption of elected district governing representatives, the districts could collaborate with successful business people, business entities - both local and abroad, to build houses, industries that will use local resources, health services, water treatment and sanitation plants, farms and allied agro-businesses, etc. This could be done with the support of a 'committed' Government.
Empower the districts to develop as if they were an 'autonomous entity' and the country will be on the path to prosperity.
The government tax base will also be broadened because the industries in the districts could be clearly identified and TAXED.
The government should concentrate on the 'big' issues like national highways, airports, waterways, energy sources, foreign affairs and security - just to mention a few.
Thank you.

Ghana is currently "broke" because of all the thievery going on within the circles of those in political power. Ghana will never be able to recover from this debacle of economic failure of the current politicians even in ten to twenty years. So where do you think the money will come from to be able to fund the move of the capital? Saddle ourselves with more international loans, which in the long run will all be stolen by the corrupt politicians? Be serious, fool.

Please, don't creep into politics with this proposal fellow Ghanaians and consider this important suggestion.
WHY?
- Accra has served it purpose and finished. We are grateful to the Gas. Cape-Coast played her part and when the time came, the button was passed on to Accra. No agro....period.
- Accra at the moment is dirty, filthy, waterlogged and in the path of earthquake.
- The Ga people themselves do not want the capital to be there.
- The site the honourable Professor suggested will please almost everyone with the exception of the usual suspects.
- Well, is Accra planned? May be at the initial stages but now...
- We have now discovered oil and the money could be invested in this venture( though you don't need to roll in riches to take this up).
- We should take a leaf from Australia, South Africa and even our neighbour- Nigeria. Their capitals are not necessary the largest cities.
And so on....the reasons are many.
The present Govt can kick start.....as the Mahama's Govt has not done anything of mention but moving Ghana backwards, and commissioning projects Kuffour set up. Ghanaians may forgive him for all the chaos right now in the country, if he is even able to start this project.
No politics please, Ghana is important than any of us.
Thank you Professor, for all right thinking Ghanaians and those who have Ghana at heart will continue to pray for this to happen.
