Folks let's leave politics aside and be real. Ghana's system is totally messed up and it's about time we cleaned it up. Why live in Ghana and purchase stuff in dollars? Every sector that earn wages in dollars should be scraped and that includes the Black Stars match bonuses. England pays their players in pounds, other Europeans countries in euros and why is it that only 3rd world countries are paying their players in dollars? When our own currency is besieged by another mans currency in our own country then what kind of idiots are we? Pay them in cedis and they can exchange it for dollars at the exchange bureaus. One can't go to England or anywhere in Europe from America and buy with dollars? There are money exchange bureaus in all the various airports, you change your money into the country's original currency before you make purchases and it's not strange if Ghana does it too. Let's be real guys. Besides, this government has to watch his spending if they really have the nation at heart. The suffering in this land is way beyond imagination.

You do not create rules to punish some and leave others. The directive should have be directed to all institutions Bank of Ghana has consultants that they are paying them in dollars, the oil and gas and the mining sectors which I know for a fact are all paid in dollars. The coach of the Black Star is paid in dollars.
You cannot take a job in Canada and expect to paid in US dollar because you come from USA nor work in England expected to be paid Cedis because you from Ghana.
Paying in cedis is a good idea only if it would apply to everyone including Ghanaian working Ghana embassies.
No rent, car rent hotel stay dining place should allowed to charge in dollars including the so-called duty free shop.

Mining companies are taking tons of earned dollars out of the country. Nigeria banks are carrying massive dollars out of your country, your ministers are demanding/spending dollars as bribes and what you want to do is talk about Black Stars?
You are a net importer of food, clothing and everything you can imagine and instead of drafting short to medium term measures to arrest these situations and a whole president indulges in chicken fights with the black stars. Are you serious??

It can't be a joke of the year, it's real. FIFA pays every country in dollars but the nations involved pay their players in their own national currencies except for most 3rd world countries. The reason why it's becoming a big deal here is that, the bulk of our players ply their trade abroad, but none of them pays taxes in Ghana yet we pay them and it's taken away. Not until recently, which of the players has given back to the Ghanaian society? The idea to stop paying them in dollars is a good one but the government should make sure the other institutions in Ghana that quote figures or sell in dollars also stop that practice. They should also stop wasteful government spending and stealing. Ghanaians in Ghana are suffering too much.

The only reason why this government is doing that is the free fall of the cedis because of mismanagement you can not take dollars from your own dollar account at Bank of Ghana. Welcome to Kutu year.

The president H.E John Mahama has taken a bold decision to stop dollarisation of payment of the countrys Black Stars winning bonuses in our local currency which I believe is a step in its right direction. At this economic meltdown of our country some people should not be untouchable and hide behind institutions like the football Association and its allied branches like football clubs and the Black Stars the National team, to make themselves rich while the general public live in limbo. The Black stars team have indeed appeared twice in the worldcup tournament and appearing the 3rd time, but came home short of our expetation viz,to win the world cup,at the expence of the countrys foreign exchange which appears like syphoning the countrys hard currency for the benefit of few others. There will be reactions by some of their handlers who may convince the players to oppose this directive by the president but if they are patriotic and have the Nation at heart this should not be a problem bothering their sleepless nights.
POW@ Brazil b3y3 huhuu hu 10 years ago
The government also has to do his part by stopping wasteful spending and syphoning money etc and stop paying other organizations too in dollars. Every institution quoting money in dollars should stop or be penalized.

I support the president's idea. I believe this is part of the measures to arrest the down fall of our daily used currency. The bonuses been paid to our athletes must be in our local cedis as other countries pay theirs. This is a mistake made by those who brought this idea in the past. There is no need blaming them but as at now, let's change the method to suite our situation. This must affect everybody in this situation.

I am surprised President Mahamah has directed that henceforth players’ bonuses must be paid in cedis. Does he really think stopping payment of dollars to our sportsmen and women can go a long way to help increase the flow of dollars back into our economy? Assume that the whole year money spent on all the national teams is thirty million dollars, which I doubt, is so much that it will solve our dollar problem? Tell this to illiterates or semi-illiterates or to those who do not understand economics. Your problem is simple, you are spending more than you are bringing in. Just look at your unnecessary trip to Dubai with your family and entourage. Many people are receiving remuneration for work that does not deserve even one thousand cedis a month. Some are even not working but are being paid. Unfortunately, most people who have minds don't want to use it logically. Therefore, as you rightly said, Ghanaians have short memory, surely they will vote you back to power in 2016 when they are given peanuts to do your dirty work to regain power.
Just listen to this childish idea, I should put my dollar in the bank, but when I am going to take it, they should give me Ghana cedis. Again, I should put my let say two hundred thousand dollars in the bank, but when I am going to take it, they should give me ten thousand dollars. Ghana Bank policy makers say they have tried it and it worked. Initially, people will not put their money in the bank, but eventually will bring it. Has assumption passed through time-tested successive experimentation of say eight to ten different occasions to be workable solution? I have my doubt, for they say it was tried sometime ago, so it would work. That is mediocrity to say the least. In logics, when the truth of the conclusion is already assumed in the premises, it is called Begging the Question (i.e. Petitio Principii). Alternatively, when two choices are given when in fact there are three (or more) options, it is called false dilemma. Mahamah has lost the plot to augment the flow of dollars into the Ghanaian economy. I don't wish NDC evil, but come again, Mr. President, you and your policy makers have goofed big time! Most Ghanaians are uneducated, that is why you and excuse my language your cohorts are mismanaging the economy. In the study of logics there is the assumption that "We must respect all opinions" (or some variation) ends the need for further consideration of an issue. This type of logic is called Pseudo-Tolerance. The logician knowing this premise would pursue the need for further consideration of the issue. Unfortunately, Ghanaians would band him too knowing, trouble maker, enemy of progress, we want peace, and what have you. These group of Ghanaians are gullible. I pray the day that politicians cannot take Ghanaians for a ride. May that day come soon. Amen!

Therefore per your argument they should also be exempted. How about the hotels, maybe every hotel that does not make 30 million dollars a year should also be exempted. Where will that leave us?

Bank of Ghana and Ministry of Finance have so-called Consultants working for them and they are paid in dollars. People working in key positions in Oil and Gas and Mining are paid in dollars, rent a house used to be in Accra now my Holy Village are asking payment in dollars. It has to start from the top cut down on overseas travelling and deal with all the waste.
