This must stop; the govt. must let them pay their own rent after adding some housing allowance to their salaries.
Every worker is important in Ghana and not the police, soldiers and other uniformed personell only.

True Patriot you said it right. They need to rent their own place and live among the people and know what is going on in the day to day activities of the masses. It also serves as the ears and eyes of the security of the locations in which they reside.
This practice is no more feasible in even rich countries.
This funds can be used to provide them with logistics, computers, vehicles for patrol personal protection equipment (PPE).
This program should be introduced now!

If you want your house to be deteriorated in no time, hire it to the police as said by a frind of mine. The police do not take care of premises provided them by the Government, unlike the military men who are disciplined in maintaning their barracks since they have the ordnung sections in their camps which ensure cleaniness and structural good standing in all areas of their military lives. This attitude of the police must be subjected to change by their present IGP whom I have learnt had gone through high education and served the UNO,in several countries other than Ghana and had probably acquired more experiences not only in police office administration but also in the maintenance of police barracks, and he must ensure that before he had finsíshed with his two years extended contact, sweeping changes must have been made inlcuding keeping of houses allocated to them in ordnung,as a legacy bequedth to the police.

You see, sometimes comments passed by our university graduates in authority leave much to be desired. It is a fact that 90% of all police barracks in Ghana were constructed way back in the 1950s and beyond. Examples include the Koforidua Central Police Station, Accra Central MTTU Office at Tudu, Adabraka Police Staion, Otrokp3 police station near Asesewa and Saboba Distict Police Staion in the Nothern Region among others. The fact is that the facilities in the various Police facilities are old and need replacement. For instance at Saboba it will surprise everybody to know that pan latrines are still being used at the Police barracks. Comments by PreZ Mahama and Veep Amissah Arthur makes me believe that most of our so called intellectuals in leadership have nothing upstairs. I am of the firm conviction that having knowledge in economics alone is not enough to create wealth just like our veeep is displaying. This is how far our useless university education has brought us.

IF IT COMES TO MAINTENANCE, SET A SMALL UNIT WHOSE DUTIES WILL BE TO INSPECT STATE PROPERTIES AND MAKE ANNAL REPORTS TO THE STATE. I REMEMBER THERE EXISTED PUBLIC WORKS REAL ESTATE BRANCH, I AM NOT NOT SURE IF IT IS STLL THERE. ALSO THERE MUST BE A BUDGET SPECIFICALLY FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF ALL STATE PROPERTIES AND MUST BE IN THE AUDITORS ANNUAL REPORTS AS TO HOW THE BUDGET IS SPENT. I ONCE WROTE ABOUT THE AREAS LEADING TO OUR PORTS BEING IN A POOR STATE. I CAN SAY THAT STATE LAVATORIES ARE THE MOST DEPLORABLE. THEY DO NOT PROVIDE NECESSARY THINGS SUCH AS SOAPS, TOILET PAPERS ETC. IT IS THE MOST DISGRACEFUL AMENITIES WITHIN THE STATE INSTITUTIONS, BOTH MUNICIPAL AND NATIONAL. THE HEADS HAVE THEIR OWN TOILETS AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE OTHER EMPLOYEES AND US THE PUBLIC. IT IS ONE OF THE DISGRACEFUL THINGS IN GHANA, AND THE SOONER THE WHOLE ESTABLISHMENTS INCLUDING CITY COUNCILS SEE TO PROVIDING PLACES OF CONVENIENCE FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES AND THE PUBLIC, THE BETTER. VISIT THE PREMISES OF THE ESTATE DEPARTMENT OF ACCRA MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY OF THE FORMER COMMUNITY CENTRE BUILT BY DR. NKRUMAH FOR THE PEOPLE AND THAT HAS BEEN TURNED INTO LAW COURTS. WHAT A SHAME. EVERY CIVILIZED COUNTRIES HAVE COMMUNITY CENTRES, HOW ABOUT GHANA? WHERE ARE WE GOING? MORE PREACHERS AND NOTHING CONCRETE BEING DONE FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON. WE LOVE OUR BMWS YET OUR PUBLIC AMENITIES ARE NOT WHAT TO WRITE HOME ABOUT.
