Personally, I don't put much store on diplomatic fora. But whatever they're worth, Kufuor brought far more international attention to Ghana than any Ghanaian leader besides Nkrumah.

Personally, I don't put much store on diplomatic fora. But whatever they're worth, Kufuor brought far more international attention to Ghana than any Ghanaian leader besides Nkrumah.

For example, landmark AU (2007) and UN (UNCTAD 2008) summits in Accra etched Ghana's name deep into global debates, much in the same way Nkrumah's policies put Ghana at the centre of the study of development economics in the 1960s and 1970s. UNCTAD Accra (2008) led to the Accra Accord on Aid Effectiveness that builds on the Sao Paolo Consensus, a developing world challenge to the Washington Consensus.

Broadly speaking, Kufuor may not be the best President Ghana has had. That accolade still belongs to Nkrumah until someone more visionary and competent shows up. But Kufuor is by far the most successful President in diplomatic terms, skilfully drawing interest from competing Western and Eastern powers into Ghana. This was Nkrumah's Achilles heel. The results of Kufuor's success are the Bui Dam (from China) and the N1 and agro-based industries (from the US Millennium Challenge Compact). Incidentally, the Kufuor government even got the US to agree to allow Chinese companies to build the N1 to achieve cost efficiency.

He is seemingly lacking focus.
His priorities are very much misplaced. He's got his head in the clouds. He is always over-taken by events; and has therefore become a reactionary leader, -- at best.

The danger here is that, the country is becoming very vulnerable to socio-economic, and political misfits.

I have resisted the temptation of critiquing this president, but I can't help it any longer.

He is not the technocrat that our country needs in our effort of nation building, -- after the wasted years of bad governance.

I wonder which kind of people are advising him. Where are the Rawlings', the Kufuors, and the Kofi Annans to help him get his act together, -- for the sake of the poor masses.

There is no creative idea coming from this president. He needs help urgently.

Let's work together for sake of our country.

Who cares about Accra becoming a diplomatic capital. Would that solve our socio-economic problems? And exactly what does Accra becoming "a diplomatic capital" even mean? As compared to which cities? Mahama is always making empty statements. The guy is so shallow in thought!

In the 1960s under Nkrumah and in the 2000s under Kufuor, Accra was indeed THE diplomatic capital of Africa. Yet neither Nkrumah nor Kufuor was going about boasting about it. They just did their job. Mind you, the claim attributed to Mahama says "a diplomatic capital", not "THE diplomatic capital". In that case, I suggest we've experienced a retrogression in our diplomatic status.

I am advising Ghanaians to elect people who can think about things that will bring change into their lives next time there is an election. I'm talking about factories that will process all the agricultural products that go waste every year; which can then be exported. Employ the youth who have not been successful in school to clean our gutters every day as I saw when I was growing up as a kid in the early 70s. Instead of living them to their fate, turning them into land guards and armed robbers. Our cities will stop smelling. That will also cut down on how much people spend on healthcare (spreading of malaria would be reduced)our hospitals will be less busy. These are practical things that can be done with money that are spent to buy votes every election period. Instead of thinking about how many diplomats are walking in Accra. What will that bring to the common man who put you there?
