By 2008 when Kufour left the rate was Ghc.1.10 to $1. In one single year the cedi fell about 20% but somehow you see that as steady. What is this? Lack of understanding or just can't accept it.

Stop blaming political parties and support current governments to achieve a common goal- Better country. The problems of the country are not caused by the political parties but every citizen, leaders of the world financial institutions and circumstances nobody can control. The Cedi is pegged against the dollar. Why should Ghanaians use dollars to transact business instead of Cedis? You help the Dollar against the Cedi if you continue using the Dollar as a trading currency in Ghana.

So Why is the so called expect trying to tell us the decline of the Cedi started 20years ago? The fact is that the economy was in shambles and HIPCed in 2000, in 2001, the NPP decleared HIPC and went on to move the economy to middle income and created a condition that made the cedi stronger than the dollar. In 2009, as show in the article, the cedis started declining as a result of imcompetence, propaganda and corruption, today the cedi is sold at 2.5 t0 US$1.00, so who should we be told that it started 20yrs ago when in the actual fact, it started only from 2009? Please let us for once tell the truth in Ghana, now professionals, experts, Professor and Prophets and Pastor alike have all sold their concience to the NDC govt and have joined the CREAT LOOT AND SHARE(CLS) syndicate so they can't even tell the truth in their own fields of study and calling. Oh God save Mother Ghana from criminals and their "BAPHOMET AGENTS".

Ghana CEDI should have gained a whole lot of respect from the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR,but the opposite is the case.
The recession in 2008 got the developed countries economy crawling, and Ghana could have taken an advantage on their weakened economy,by stabilizing ours. But the opposite was the case,it was rather depreciating in the midst of plenty.
Our economic planners and financial gurus should wake up from their slumber, and save our Ghana from wicked, unwanted and dangerous punches from the almighty dollar.
NKRUMAH & BUSIA could do well with our economy, therefore MAHAMA should learn from them.
If this "GUINEA FOWL POLITICIANS" have not been able to transform our economy into A FINISHED PRODUCT INDUSTRY,but still wallowing in CRUDE RAW MATERIALS EXPORTS,they should find a way to stem this CEDI DEPRECIATION.
NKRUMAH & BUSIA LEFT A VIRGIN GHANA,FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES AND A VIBRANT ECONOMY FOR US,BUT NOW,NDC HAS THROWN IT INTO GARBAGE.

"The new Ghana Cedi was introduced on July 3, 2007 after four zeros were knocked off, making it the highest-valued currency unit issued by any sovereign country in Africa in 2007" Listen to this journalists. Redenomination of a currency add NO value. It only helps avoid carrying chop boxes of notes around as happened before the redenomination. Our economy is still heavily import based. Local contracts are quoted in dollars. The economy is still heavily dollarized to the point where all housing units and rents are being quoted in US dollars. This puts the dollar in high demand. Economic 101 teaches us that when there is an increased demand for a commodity, the price ($$) increases relative to competitive goods (GHC). Any laws aimed at strengthening the cedi should focus on these practices.

The role of currencies are to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. That is commodity-money-commodity (C-M-C).
Exchange rates are based on demand and supply. The question I would want to ask is what is the demand for australian dollars, danish kroner, CFA franc, nigerian dollars, swiss franc.
It is clear that the supply of these currencies are very high.
When the supply is high and the demand is low what should be the value of the currency in Ghana?

How do people get hold of foreign currency in the country?
If one wants to purchase foreign currency in the country , how is this done?
2. The cedi is falling because the market perceives the Presidency to be corrupt because the President's brother's debt became the subject of negotiation during the sale of Merchant Bank.
