In my early teens, vast oil deposits were found in the land area of ATIAVI in the Volta Region. I was as a boy in my first year at Keta Secondary School, witness to commencement of drilling but unfortunately, the 1966 coup scuppered this venture as the Israelis who were on the project were driven out of the country. Before their departure, they made sure that they sealed the vent.
Since then no successive government had found the necessity to resuscitate the project. Various banal reasons, mainly gossips for this failure have been bandied around, amongst the most ridiculous is the need to avoid capacitating the the Ewes with a competitive advantage to secede.
In all likelihood, the deposit is still intact apart from which it is right within Ghana where NO COUNTRY can be deluded into claiming ownership.
Documents of this find and the project must still be in the archives of whichever ministry is responsible for mineral resources in Ghana. Can any relevant person nudge the powers that be to revisit this project?.

our claim to that area is well founded. Since 1977 Ivory Coast has respected the maritime boundary, the customary line between Ghana and the Ivory Coast,

Ivory Coast, sensing Ghana's success story with our producing "Jubilee field" and the Adjacent "Ten field" that is yet to come on-stream started to claim the area for their own. That, my friend, is the beginning of the brouhaha we read of today. Like Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources said, there are Fantes and Nzemas staying for centuries on end in the same disputed area making Ivorian claim very suspicious indeed.

They have waited for us to explore the terrain. Now they are laying claim to land just because we have established there is oil.
