Instead of some people sticking to the issue under review here, others like NII TEIKO WE, whoever he may be decided to exhibit ignorance by engaging in ethnocentric down grading of the people of the Upper West region. TEIKO, are you telling me that this is the first time in Ghana where such a case has been report? Its a shame, anyway I do not know the level of your education but I guess you are may be one of those half-baked graduates or supposed educated people who cannot simply think. Police when to a radio stattion to arrest people who made some allegations and the comment you could only pass is that, what is worry with people up there? Have we not had similar cases in Kumasi and else where in Ghana, wish I could get a personal contact with you to probably education you. This issue of tribalism and ethnic criticisms would never help us, after all how many Upper Westerners are you better than? If you criticise the manner in which the police handled the case or arrest, better but to descend on the people shows a high level of ignorance and immaturity. You have the right to air your views but remember that your views should not denigrate others.Shame on you once again NII TEIKO WE for displaying such ignorance in this 21st century, guess your parents would be regretting seriously for sending you to school if they read this post of yours. What do you aim to achieve with this? I seriously hope you remove your post and apologise to the people of the Upper West region, or you expect more from me.God Bless Ghana

The police has done the right thing. Next time they will do investigation before they open their mouth on the radio.
I wish they go to Adom FM to bundle that small girl calling herself "Vim Lady" for her impunity discourse and programme on the radio which is very very uncivilized. Calling someone "honorable, honorable, I warn you...." How can you a half-baked journalist warn somebody on the radio!!

The police should have closed the station and not release them still they can prove what they were saying is right. What people forget is that whatever is said in that station call be heard all around the world not only in Wa. If something is not right or proven it shouldnt be on air.
Every station should have two mins delay or prerecorded to get facts right before it goes on air.
The police should make this as an example to all who stupidly go on radio and tv and make stupid comments about people or government with no prove.
The Police shouldnt have given them bail.

Wala boy if you think the police did a good job, then you are misguided. Ghana is not a police state that the police can just walk into a radio station and arrest a journalist and guests of the station. The police officer who ordered such action should be ashamed and should be sanctioned by the IGP.
An allegation of this kind is not an arrestable offence. If the police think what the radio presenter said was false and therefore defaming the police service in Wa, then the police should sue him and the radio station for a competent court of jurisdiction to decide. The police cannot take the law into their hands and arrest citizens just because they have expressed an opinion that the police disagree or do not like. This is abuse of authority and against the 1992 Constitution. It's the police mentality of "I will show you where power lies". Ghana is a democratic country with free press and freedom of expression. The police cannot behave this way because the police is not above the law.

For all we know most Ghanaian police are corrupt you dont need to study criminology in Oxford or Cambridge University to know that.I recentlty visited Wa and i saw the level of criminal activies going on in the nose of the police. Is good that the media highlights things like that for the appropriate authorities to take action. If the police wanted to clear the air they could have organised a programme to clear the air about the allegations. If our police continue to harass, bully , arrestand intimadate our journalist i dont think is going to create a level playing field for our freedom of speech and expression.
I CALL ON THE REGIONAL POLICE COMMENDER TO RESIGN for abuse of powers.I also call on all media houses in the region to cover more stories about police brutalities, curruption and imcomptence in the region. I was a radio presenter in Wa and i remember calling on the police commender to anser questions on radio about the activities of police misuse of power in the region. The Regional Minister as the Chairnan of the Regional securty council should call on the Regional Police Commender to defend his action.
There are few police who are doing a good job but for mojarity of them they only care about what bribes they can get at the end of their shifts. I personally do not have confidence in our police service. They are paid to protect life and properties but you only realise they are rather protecting their 'pockets'. i am sure if you ask most of them about their police motto you willbe surprised they cant remeber it because they are busy taking bribes from hardpressed Ghanaians.
From the IGP to the lowest constable almost everyone is involved.
However, the people who are supposed to check on them are the politicians and they themselves are not clean, so you will see that there is viscious circle of curruption and bribery in all our institutions. Almost everyone in our institutions are either busy taking bribes or not doing what they are suppossed to be doing. Until we realise what,
'We can do for our Country and not what our Country can do for us' we will continue in this situation.

Sue in whose name? I do not believe the 1992 Constitution offers 'carte blanche freedom'to irresponsible individuals, who are hell-bent on bringing this country to its knees! Try imitating this sort of reckless behaviour in London, one of the bastions of 'free speech' and let`s see where you will find yourself!
The last I heard from the NMC,it was complaining about salary arreas, but not concerned with 'sanitizing' our airwaves and promoting development!
I have personally witnessed how "law-enfocement" dealt with a bunch of student protesters and anti-globalization renegades, who figured they were exercising their right to "free speech" and the "freedom" to oppose govt policy on World Trade by obstructing a G-8 Summit that was going on in the country.
Just as much as we should oppose the abuse of state power, let`s not condone the 'foolishness' that is gradually gaining a foothold in Ghana!
the police and other law-enforcement agencies have a difficult job maintaining law and order;and do not need any needless distractions and provocations from 'idle' agent provocateurs and lunatics!

Freedom of speech comes with responsibilty. Unfortunately, some journalists or specifically broadcast journalists spew a great deal of garbage laced with incendiary statements. That kind of presentation likely to inflame passions, and cause fear and unnecessary aggravation amongst the public, is highly questionable.
The police may have erred in an assault kind raid. They could have gone to that media oversight body for redress. This one however, is big and should not be ignored

There was a time - in Wa - when the police would not dare, no, would not dream to take the law into their hands. It was a time of dictatorship. It was a time when the police were, to all intents and purposes, in de facto partnership with the military over our lives. It was the time of the PNDC. Yet, the police would have thought twice about arresting a man without just cause in case it provoked a justified effect. We fast forward to 2014 and we are living under a government of the people, for the people and by the people - in a democracy. The police storm a privately owned radio station (I believe) and arrest three persons in discussion of a matter of paramount public interest. Why did this happen?
Wa is in Ghana. Ghana is not a police state. We are under the government of the NDC, not the PNDC. The police can only enter a private property with a warrant issued by a judge or a magistrate to search a private property for evidence of wrongdoing. The police cannot arrest any man or woman talking about police corruption or any corruption on television, radio or Facebook. The police do not have arbitrary powers of arrest in our democracy. So, why did the police make the arrest?
In Wa we have elevated the police above our tradition, above our religion and above our politics - above us. The lowest-ranked police constable and the dumbest both sit one peg above the most respectable, most respected, most powerful and most influential private person in Wa society. So to the police, we are all petty men who peep about in obeisance waiting to do their bidding in our gratitude for their coming to live with us and lord it over us in our hellhole called Wa. 'Men at some time are masters of their fates./ The fault is not in our stars/ But in ourselves, that we are the underlings.' [William Shakespeare in 'Julius Caesar']. If our gratuitous ingratiation of ourselves with the police does not cease and if we do not stop paying silly bribes to the Wa police for everything including the opportunity to hold an informal conversation with one, the police will only ever see Wa as a cash cow and every one of us as an ass or a moo.
THE ACTION OF THE WA POLICE WAS UNWARRANTED AND UNWARRANTABLE. It was a gross abuse of the power WE repose in them to protect and defend us. The radio station must now sue the Wa police for wrongful arrest and detention, demand compensation for emotional and physical distress and compensation for loss of earnings in addition a public (published) apology. It is our expectation Commander Duku will get to the bottom of this criminal conduct of his men. For anyone out there who applauded the police action, I refer them to Martin Niemoller: when they came for the socialists, I didn't speak out because I believed in property-owning democracy; when they came for the Catholics, I didn't protest because I was Protestant; when they came for the Jews, I was silent because I wasn't a Jew; when they came for me, there was no one left to save me.

We all have equal freedom to speech but when yours slanders my own freedom, then the law must ask you to produce the evidence. It is as simple as that. Your freedom does not qualify you to perpetuate lies against others. This is the basic principle of democracy. I think our journalists and politicians would learn. Our institutions should not be dragged into our kind of demo-crazy.
