If I were to be in your situation as someone who had been appointed before the Elections, I would have been strong enough to alert the electorates of its negativities.

If however, I had been appointed after the Elections, I would have been bold enough to inform the PUBLIC or especially the Government that such a Policy wouldn't work.

This NHIS has been the hue and cry of the Ghanaian Public since the NDC was ushered into Government since the Atta MYTHS Government to be continued by FAKE MAHAMA as President.

Unfortunately, both the Public and the Government have come out to say about it's non-workability. So why are you now going public about it, just to save your ARSE???

We had all known how the system had benefited Ghanaians during the Kufour Administration and how hopeless it has been under the NDC.

Therefore you could do us a favour by providing the public with a Data that shows the inadequacies in this your bereft NDC mandate.

THEY ARE ALL FULL OF TALK WITHOUT PERFORMANCE!!!

He will never reveal these because it would show you that the premiums of a thousand people go only to pay for such so-called "overheads" Add the expenditure on other headquarters staff. Where will the money comes from to take care of sick people? That is why premiums must be renewed annually Otherwise they can't award themselves single-spine increases every year!! Thieves. Looters. Maybe, looking forward, we should now allow competition in the HIS system, after all Ashanti Region is being treated differently from the rest of the country for over two years now.

A good test-example would be to let a private NGO company take over the complete HIS of Ashanti Region.

Accra, June 15,2009 GNA - Mr Sylvester Mensah, former MP for La Dadekotopon, has been appointed the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). He takes over from Mr Ras Boateng, who until now headed the Insurance Authority.

Mr Mensah's major task will be to bring to fruition government's promise of a one-time payment of premium. The Health Insurance Scheme as it stands now undertakes yearly membership renewal where premium is paid annually. Mr Mensah is a finance professional, strategic management expert and until now the head of Public Sector Banking of the Intercontinental Bank.

He also lectures at the Central University Business School and holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, UK. The 17-Member National Health Insurance Authority Board, which was inaugurated on Monday, has the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Doe Adjaho, as Chairman.

Members of the board include, Dr. Steven Ahiawordor, government appointee, Dr. Mercy Bannerman, government appointee, Mrs. Nyameke Kyiamah of the National Insurance Commission, Mr Samuel Akwei, Ghana Bar Association, Dr J.K. Kwakye-Maafo of the Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners and Kofi Asamoah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress. Other members are Mr Obed Okudzeto of the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, Mrs Edith Haizel and Dr Stephen Ayidia representing Consumers, Mr Benjamin Kumbour, Deputy Minister of Health representing the Ministry, Dr Elias Sory for Ghana Health Service and Mrs Czarina Ribeiro representing Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. 15 June 09

When you are to manage a social scheme that started with about 1 million people in 2005 with income mainly of 2.5% of VAT and over 7-8 years on, the subscribers have grown to 9 million with claims payment also increasing from a little over 1 million Ghana cedis then to 600Million Cedis now, yet your income has remained the same still @2.5% of VAT what meaningful impact can you make than to scream to the government to increase the funding which is what I hear him say a lot lately. I think on the scale of things Sly and his team have done well...at least in keeping the scheme alive and putting in structures for future growth. Biometric Card and All...Just fix the bit with the health facilities to stop the extra charges they impose on patients who even have valid membership; that I think rests squarely with Ghana Health Service..Happy 2014!!

To begin with both NPP and NDC are wrong on this sensitive issue.You cannot offer free National Health Insurance Scheme without proper identification and tax clearance of every individual.Apart from children and the aged every beneficiary should justify his level of income.There must be a limit of resources and different forms of private health insurance.Govt cannot support NHIS far too long if they don't put proper administrative measures in place.This is just the same as Nana Addo's Free SHS campaign promise.Govt can help the very poor in the society but not to misuse scarce state resources on people who have means to take care of themselves.Thank you.
