We Will Have Our Exports Banned By the EU. See What they Do to our cocoa, palm oil etc.
What is the use in producing a lot when nobody will buy it.
Some of the MPs thing think by Passing the bill into Law they will own Patents. they lie bad.
This bill, when passed will benefit the multinationals and they crowd the local patent owners out.
Their Ultimate aim is own and control our food.
This is not about making food available.
Thank You.

There are harmless ways of reducing pest infestations and increasing crop yield. Let's focus on that..where are our agric graduates? Should we kill Ghanaians for profits? Anyway...who said we will achieve the targeted profit since the world market is rejecting non-GMO foods? Have our leaders forgotten that health is wealth? Introducing GMO into Ghana will be suicidal? Are there no more visionary-leaders in Ghana? Have their consciences been seered with iron? Wisdom is speaking aloud in the street. Please listen and be wise our leaders

Since our parliamentarians have shown total lack of concern for the welfare of the people and the sovereignty of the nation all sitting members should be rejected at the next elections.

A nightmarish situation awaits Ghana and other poor African countries being used as experimental rats for GMO produce. Thanks for this article. Can you imagine the EU rejecting our cocoa, our mainstay because some genes from GMO plants have found their way into the cocoa? Ghana goes bankrupt immediately. Those scientists blindly promoting this matter are a disgrace to Ghana. Worst still, the parliamentarians who are totally ignorant on the issue and will only follow party orders to vote when the bill comes to the house. GOD SAVE US...

I agree we need to look at all the possible implications of adopting GM technology for our food production, but those making the arguments need to be properly briefed so that they are well informed to advance their arguments. Why is this so difficult to get across?

The records show that 35 percent of ouf agricultural/food imports (including raw, semi-processed and other food products) came from the European Union in 2012. Indeed Ghana is a NET importer of food from the EU, the US, South Africa, China and other Asian countries.
Has the GEPC bothered to find out how much of what Ghana is currently importing is GM? Furthermore, we import a lot of grain which we need including rice, wheat, sorghum, soy and maize.
What are our agricultural exports to these places apart from cocoa and perhaps cotton? Is it the shea butter? cashew? pineapples?
Outside cocoa, how much do these other traditional agricultural products add to our trade?
Therefore my question is: Is the Ghana Export Promotion Council by this article trying to mislead or is this purely out of ignorance? Your guessis as good as mine.
I hope we can put the statistical facts about our agriculture imports and exports on the table for dicussion as part of this debate.
