He spent his life fighting for his people and was willing to die for what he believed in, just like Nkrumah, Azikiwe, Jomo Kenyatta, Kaunda, Samora Michel and many, many Africans who fought imperialism and colonialism.

However, he stands out among them as the greatest human being for having a heart of rock, yet so soft to be able to dine with his enemies in order to bring peace and prosperity to his people. This is the reason why I believe a lesson is yet to be learned by African leaders.

Madiba, we thank God for your life and may you rest in peace.

Heartwarming tribute for a great man. It appears to me this tribute had long been written, sitting on Mahama's iPad for the opportune time to be released. Either way it is an excellent tribute. Nothing wrong in having a tribute handy, since the Madiba has been saying a long good bye to us. We instinctively knew the end was nigh.

But then words are cheap. Africans are noted for being able to come out with fleeting words to celebrate a dearly departed. What Mandela's life portrays is a life of selflessness, an extraordinary willingness to lead, reconcile and lift a country to a better life. Will Nelson Mandela sit idle by and watch his ministers rain insults on the opposition? You know that won't happen. Will Mandela insert himself in the business deals between his brother and his bankers? Not a chance. Corruption and insincerity is written large all over Mahama and his party. Shame on you. Just don't paint Mandela in colourful words, live his example.

Great son of Africa, Madiba, Fare thee well. Say hello to your brothers Nkrumah, Azikiwe, Nyerere, Kenyatta, Selassie, Lumumba, Machel, Toure, Boigny, and Danquah, that Africa is carrying on. Corruption has engulfed the whole continent, and in Ghana we risk the return of going back to HIPC.

Today the Akans despite being the majority have been marginalized due to the hegemony of the ewes , northerners and lately we see also the treacherous Gas. i repeat just one point to prove the point , there is not a single Fanti cabinet minister in this govt. yet they claim almost half their votes were from the Akans or Fantis . we must admit the persecution of the Akans did not start today , Nkrumah ruthlessly persecuted any opposition to his wanton spending which led to the first exodus of the Akans mainly the fantis in the late 50's and 60's . then came the rawlings who caused again the exodus of the Akans this time mainly the twi speakers led by the Ashantis . today there is an estimate of from 10 to 15 million Akans living in the diaspora who will support any revolution or war effort that will lead to to the freedom of the Akans . Now there is the Kotoka International Airport attesting to General Kotoka, who was the leader of the 1966 coup. Kotoka is now being honored for distracting Ghana from attaining her vision is now a hero. Now that Ghana knows the truth, the question is, do we need to Honor a lie that abuses the collective sense of a nation. Should Kotoka be honored with a monument?. Another question, who is “Sankara”?. What did he do for Ghana that he as well deserves a circle to be named after him?. Why not after our heroes?. Don´t we have them?. This questions will be left as a chewing stick for our historians and nefarious politicians to chew and tell the nation the taste of it one day.
So what must Ghana do now? Is it not justified to tell Ghanaians the Truth? nothing but the truth?. We cannot wage war against the world’s only superpower America but we shall not stop telling them the truth until they can bear it no more. We will let then understand that they can kill and oppress many nations as possible, but the “Truth will forever prevail” so long as some of them live.
We all know that this coup was a serious lapse in judgment. It is a treason. Unfortunately, this admission has to be made, no matter how uncomfortable it is. Those perpetrators should be brought to book.
We shall prove to those Ghanaians who still want to believe that February 24, 1966 was not a mistake, even after the evidence shows that the core reason was a lie that they have betrayed their motherland. The child has now found out that the tragedy of the period after independence was not the loss of power by Nkrumah and the CPP. The real tragedy was that an initial period of experiment in nation building was truncated prematurely, and thereby the calm for natural growth and development was denied the country.
Today Ghanaians should accept the shame of embracing a coup that was fraudulent. If Ghana looks foolish now, imagine how it will feel like when history remembers that she participated in her own destruction, and 37 years later, still did not know what happened to her!. The man Kotoka who left Ghana naked on the stage is now the hero. General Kotoka is now named after an Airport which his hands and feet never touched.
Fellow countrymen, one more thing is sure; we shall make sure that America renders an apology to Ghanaians one day. Kotoka International Airport and Sankara circle shall be renamed after a leader who deserves it in Ghana. God bless Ghana.

Good eulogy by Mahama but if Mandela had been born in Ghana under Kwame Nkrumah or Jerry John Rawlings, would he have survived to December 2013? Remember J B Danquah? Justice Koranteng Addo, Justice Agyapong, Justice Sarkodee and many hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians who perished under Kwame Nkrumah and particularly under JJ Rawlings - because they were perceived as opponents to their (Nkrumah and Rawling's) political ambitions.

For Mandela to have lived up to 95 years, his tormentors and jailers - the white Afrikaaners - were nothing but saints. Under an African leader, Mandela's bones would have rotten long ago.

Shame on to Kwame Nkrumah and his CPP for killing J B Danquah and many of his contemporaries in jail. Shame on to JJ Rawlings and his erstwhile PNDC/NDC for killing over 100 000 innocent Ghanaians - more than the number of black Africans killed by the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Mahama should not shed crocodile tears for Mandela. He should rather be ashamed of the fact that his NDC party, a successor of the murderous PNDC, elevated hatred towards a section of Ghanaians and political killing - to a level of government policy. Shame Rawlings! Shame Mahama!

Today, President Robert Mugabe is one of the very few living African leaders who've refused to surrender to neocolonialism, in spite of the criticisms levied against him by the same type of reactionaries who betrayed President Mandela and other PanAfrican revolutionary leaders, and who are today pretending to praise President Mandela now that it is safe to do so.

ATLANTA, Ga. (FinalCall.com) - When Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama and a delegation of government ministers came South, the takeaway from meetings was clear: Ghana is open for business and Blacks are welcome to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
President Mahama was in the United States for the United Nations General Assembly held in New York. He traveled to Atlanta at the invitation of Kennesaw State University as part of an internationalization program. The “Year Of” education and cultural initiative focuses on a single country for study and to showcase art exhibits and lectures delivered by in-country scholars. Ghana was chosen for the 2012-2013 academic year, said university officials.

President Mahama met with major investors to connect and dispel images of the Motherland as a basket case. “Africa is standing on its feet and is rising,” he said. In speeches and in an exclusive interview, the head of state shared his optimism and excitement about where Ghana and Africa are headed.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the West African nation is on Front Street as an economic powerhouse and is among the top 10 fastest growing world economies.

In 2011 Ghana scored the highest Gross Domestic Product growth in the world at 14 percent and currently maintains a brisk 8 percent growth rate.

“The present vision is to create an enabling environment that is transforming direct investment into our country,” explained Haruna Iddrisu, Ghana’s minister of trade and industry. Ghana is inviting companies interested in taking advantage of investment incentives, such as in agribusiness where Ghana projects export revenue to increase from $2.5 billion to $5 billion by 2016, he said.

Several American companies with operations in Ghana or considering expanding into the country gathered at a Business and Investors Round-table and Luncheon hosted by the Ghana International Chamber of Commerce to explore the economic vision of the Mahama administration.
“An emerging center of excellence for technology innovation, a favorable investment climate and a stable political environment makes Ghana one of the most attractive places for the international business community to establish operations,” said Matilda Arhin, chamber president.

Ghana is positioned to become a center for energy production, financial services, transportation and other industries, officials said.

“Our concept is to create what we call a hub and spoke—a vision for Ghana,” said President Mahama. “Ghana will become the hub of virtually every sector for West Africa. Because of the brand we have of being the most stable democracy, the most peaceful and safe and secure country in West Africa, many countries are coming and establishing their headquarters in Ghana and using Ghana as a platform to reach out to the rest of the sub-region.”

With the discovery of oil in recent years, Ghana is experiencing accelerated growth and attracting foreign investment. Ghana is producing 120,000 barrels of oil per day with over two dozen oil fields on tap for production in coming years.

During the British colonial era Ghana was called the Gold Coast because of huge gold deposits. After gaining independence in March 1957 Ghana suffered difficult political periods. But today Ghana is a political and economic torchlight for a continent plagued with a myriad of serious problems. President Mahama attributes Ghana’s achievements to the tough road of the past.

“Our secret is that we’ve hit rock bottom, and when you hit rock bottom you can’t move any further … the only direction to move is upward and so we’ve been going upward since then,” he told business leaders.

Notwithstanding the difficulties of 54 African nations, Ghana is a story of triumph and the “success stories in Africa are more than the negative images we see,” the president continued.

“For far too long Africa has been discussed in the world economic and policy discourse with pity and extreme pessimism. There’s an obvious need to recalibrate the global narrative about Africa,” President Mahama added.

The “pity and sympathy” narrative was instrumental in shaping policy and tactics of international development assistance. Some organizations even marketed the negative images to fundraise, sending the counterproductive message that charity was better than investment for a dying continent. “It’s time to reverse that narrative,” Ghana’s president said.

Dominant powers like the United States, Britain and France are facing economic declines and as powers like China, Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa rise. Africa has become a battle ground for influence and control of its resources. Africa holds 60 percent of the world’s uncultivated arable land; 85 percent of the plutonium and platinum group of metals; 40 percent of the world gold reserves and 10 percent of the world’s oil reserves—a figure likely to increase with new oil discoveries in countries like Ghana.

“What we’ve seen is massive consumption of commodities in most of the BRICS countries, specifically in India, China and Brazil with a large amount of exports of commodities out of Africa,” said J.P. James, managing director of Atlanta based Libreum Investment Management. The rising BRICS economic powers are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Mr. James told the Final Call, it’s about being able to broker relationships and bridge gaps between “new emerging markets” like Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Africa and China, India and Brazil to fulfill their enormous need of African resources.

The continent of nearly one billion people is a magnet for world powers, major investors and global capitalists seeking to take financial advantage of her wealth. Historically, such interest meant imperialism, neocolonialism and subjugation of the African people, who the president described as the most valuable resource.

“Our greatest challenge is to put in place systems to allow these resources to be used to benefit our people,” said President Mahama. He advocates changing business practices to more evenhanded arrangements for Ghana and Africa such as exporting manufactured finished products instead of shipping raw materials then repurchasing expensive goods processed abroad.

The 58-year-old president said Africa is undergoing a renaissance that’s driving positive change and opportunity.

During the roundtable discussion President Mahama announced expansion of the “Diasporan Unit” in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a “Diasporan Bureau” that will create data bases of skill sets of Ghanaians and other Africans in the Diaspora to be matched with what is needed for Ghana’s advancement.

“We recognize the importance of our Diaspora and recently we are seeing a reverse brain drain where a lot of the people that we lost are beginning to come back,” he said.

Another side of the Diaspora represented during the president’s visit was Black American business people looking to invest in Ghana. Michael Roberts, CEO of the Roberts Companies, stressed the importance of the presidential visit in tapping Black-owned firms.

“You hear the ole’ boys out busy doing what they do; they’re trying to get into Africa, but what I wanted to tell the president today was don’t worry about the ole’ boys, know that there are some ‘homeboys’ who could come and do exactly the same thing,” said Mr. Roberts.

In a private meeting with A. Akbar Muhammad, the international representative of the Nation of Islam who has lived and done business in Ghana, President Mahama agreed to connect with the Black community based on Ghana’s historic ties to Blacks in the United States.

“Ghana is proud of the role it has played in the African Diaspora, Ghana is proud of the role it has played in the African liberation process and is proud of the role it will continue to play in the African renaissance,” said President Mahama, whose visit was from Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

This is a moment, however, for the African people to reflect on how to carry on with Mandela's aspirations. Our nations are in ruins and our leaders are corrupt and Mandela's passing should be a moment of reflection for not some of us, but, for all of us to take on the the role of being social engineers to help mobilize the masses of our people from where we find ourselves today.

As a TRUE REFLECTION of why Africa is still centuries behind modernity and civilisation, one of its Heads of State is not even aware that the phrases for SUCH DENIGRATING TERMS have evolved into THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED, the DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED, GROUP HOMES, etc, yet he studied there, bought a plane from them and visits them regularly, and, as I write, he is even with them to look for handouts.

Pitifully, none of his ADVISERS knows any better.
Do not go to any audience in the West and refer to anybody as a LEPER or his shared residence as a LUNATIC ASYLUM.

To all my fellow members of the Student Movement for African Unity (SMAU) throughout Africa, who braved the sweltering sun in repeated demonstrations for freedom in South Africa, Rhodesia, Mozambique, Angola, Portuguese Guinea and Sahara (Sahraoui), who lost limbs and even lives to some brutal African regimes afraid of Western economic reprisals, I say to you: Not only were we able to inspire our widow's mite for political independence for our peoples, save Sahara, which is now under Moroccan hegemony, but we also witnessed, with boundless joy, the release of this icon.

Those who had cozied up to the apartheists and racists, gave them comfort and helped overthrow African leaders opposed to the oppressors, who are celebrating him today, came to the party too late.
