He expressed disappointment that many years after he launched the Ghana urban management project which was among other things to give a facelift to the Ho central market nothing has happened to the market since then.

He noted that although there was money for the project, he is surprised that nothing has been done after one year and promised to deal ruthlessly with whoever was delaying the funds in Accra.

His predecessor,the late Pres Prof. Atta Mills employed REASON,but failed,by and large. Even fmr. Pres Rawlings,who used the fear-of-the-gun,was only partially sucessfully.
The "ME" state of mind has consumed the average person on the street, such that even some parents,spouses and other close family members are more than willing to sacrifice their so-called 'loved ones' in the pursuit of money. And frankly unless Pres Mahama spends the next thress years of his term on his toes,not much is going to come out the myriad of promises he keeps throwing around!
And if he thinks he is going to get any support from the opposition,he should forget it! Many of these individuals who were shouting on top of their voices and chidding Dr. Afari Gyan only a couple of months ago, for denying them a level playing field, have resorted to even more crude tactics to deny their 'internal rivalries' a fair opportunity to compete against them. Have they not put lobsided procedures in place to ensure that they and other incumbents main a firm grip on power,and maintain the status quo? And you call these these people true democrats?
Again,if he thinks senior and middle level managers who run the day-to-day affairs of govt are going to abandon their insatiable appetite for money and other 'good things in life',then he has something coming to him! When you have them by the "balls",they rely on their friends in high place to get away under the guise of "The rule of law". What further justification do we need to send people -Chief Directors,MDs,Project Mgrs - who are paid to administer all the various activities packing when 3-4 hundred nurse-trainees are not paid for 24 months, but 1,052 'phantom-workers' are able to draw monthly salaries for doing no work.
Top GRA officials engage a presidetial task force in a useless public debate about whether or not certain entities are evading taxes through the bonded-warehose system,when in fact,everybody is aware that tax-revenue infows from that section have fallen very dramatically. Should even a single entity be allowed to get away with paying the required tax levy when others have to cough up the duties before they can get their hands on their goods?
I never liked the ideology of the late U.S Pres Ronald Regan,but I admired his courage in making an example of US AirControllers,when he resolved to bring back some sanity into industrial relations within the US economy. Who hears about the once powerful AFLCIO and the dreaded Teamsters union? Do something JDM;rid the bureaucracy of 'proxy-fighters' who have abandoned their neutrality and are engaged in a rear-guard action against your administration and the good people Ghana!
