Mr Kofi Bentil thanks for this, Ghana must wake-up and be counted. We the citizens must dictate to the politicians how we want to be governed, not they governing us the way they feel. We have sat down to allow politics become the most lucrative and respectable job in Ghana. Politics is for service and not a place to look for prominence and amass wealth. We the voter can cut out propaganda, lies, the loud mouth, insults etc by voting for people who have already made it in life not people who never even worked after graduating and probably don't even have a bank accout.

Though Mr Kofi Bentil is raising a very important issue, he is totally wrong in blaming the middle class for not ensuring that the right thing is done in Ghana. The fact is that the middle class has never been the watchdog for society anywhere in the world. Revolutions, either peaceful or violent armed struggle are often the work of the masses and not the middle class. On the contrary, the middle class is often part of the problem because it benefits from the corruption of the ruling class and the silence or weakness of the working class. Therefore it is less worried about the suffering of the working class. Its position is that it is not responsible for the corruption but in reality the aim is to protect the little that it gains from from lack of action to hold the ruling class to account for its actions.
Moreover, the middle class cannot act alone to check the corruption. If anything, it would need the support of the working class. Ordinarily, the action to hold the ruling class to account is often led by the working class and do not even require the support of the middle class to be successful. The middle class is not a powerful group both economically and politically, especially in developing countries. It find itself in the middle and can choose to side with either the ruling or working class depending on which alliance it stands to gain most and depending on prevailing circumstances.
In other words, the working class and not the middle class is better placed to change things for the better in Ghana more than the middle class. For example, with the power and water problems, the middle class can afford to get generators or install solar energy on their houses. Again, the middle class can afford to buy big water tanks and hire tankers to supply water to their homes. By this the middle class gains by providing such services and also create jobs so there is no incentive on the part of the middles to ensure that the ruling class provides reliable power and water. The group that suffers most is the working class who cannot afford to provide their own power and water and may have to buy from the middle class. It is therefore the working class that is more likely to demand that the ruling class resolves the power and water shortages.

The problem Mr Bentil failed to realise is that, in developing countries like Ghana, the middle class is really very small and not politically vibrant. In Ghana for instance, we have few really rich people that Mr Bentil described and mistakingly referred to as middle class. Those that can call their friend Doctors in Ghana for medical care are not classified as middle class but are the rich and elite in society.
Ghanaian Politicians are very comfortable and not worried about the proletariats rising up and start a mass revolution because of our laid back attitude but it will get to a point where these poor people will have nothing to lose when they can't even afford one meal a day and will

Thank you, thank you Kofi Ata. Brilliant analysis. Your brief explanation of the dynamics of history and the dynamics of political evolution has relegated the false posture of Bentil to the level of a terminally illiterate, but obedient slave of our historical oppressors.
I however wish to also add that the middle class - a capitalist creature or phenomenon in general, by their insatiable self-serving aspirations to dominate and rule others, has actually always been the problem. The corrupt ruling class in any situation, is actually the excrement of the so-called middle class.
In the peculiar case of Africa or Ghana, the pseudo-middle class elements are even more steeped in despicable acts corruption, mismanagement, patronage. In their pursuit of unbridled greed and power within the context of unpardonable poverty, the typical shameless verbal pretensions such as what Bentil, an avowed capitalist, avers to in his presentation, are to be expected.
To begin with, Bentil and his light-minded gang of neo-colonial errand-boys and purveyors, thrive and exist on the blood-money of megalomaniac despotic multinational corporate institutions whose discreet control of the economies and political power of many countries and the lives of hundreds of millions of real human beings in the international arena on behalf of the global imperialist crusade, is famously hushed and made to seem trite and innocuous under the cover of sound and normal business practices.

Well, this problem has been there since yesteryears Ghana, but IMAMI only get the hint of it when The NDC part two & three registered on our political scene, huh? What vicky Hammah said represents the MISSION STATEMENTS of 99.99% of those who call themselves politicians in this country. The examples are many. In Dr Nkrumah's time, Kwaku Baako's father and his fellow ministers LOOTED. Then came the military adventurists led by Kotoka and Afrifa. THEY ALSO LOOTED. When Busia and Akufo Addo's father took their turn THEY PAID THEMSELVES TWO YEARS IN ADVANCE, in addition to the LOOT. And it has continued to date. Greedy Thief John Agyekum Kufour Epitomosed them all. HIS LOOTING WAS RAVAGEOUS. Prof Mills was not interested in personal aggrandisement. He did not even collect per diem. But those around him LOOTED and today the LOOTING CONTINUES. Mahama in contaminated so he can't fight the way he should. Someone should tell me the whereabouts of Kwamena Bartels. He pounced on 10.0 million pounds grant and gave to his daughter. After Thief Kufour's reign he said goodbye to politics. Totobi Kwakye under Rawlings did the same. What a Rotten country? If Mahama is interested in solving this problem he MUST FIRST SCRAP THE ARTICLE 71 OFFICE HOLDERS NONSENSE. ALL OF US MUST BE ON THE SINGLE SPINE AND THE ECONOMY CAN SUSTAIN IT.I vomitted when I heard Lawrence Addai Kyei Mensah Bonsu cried their salaries are PAUPER'S SALARIES. Is he aware a lot of Ghanaians receive GHc50.00 per month as their salaries? If 72.0 million cedis per month for him is a pauper's salary what about those who receive GHc50.00 (five hundred thousand cedis per month)? JOHN MAHAMA IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO AND IF YOU CARE FOR THE MASSES TAKE THE INITIATIVE TO SCRAP THE ARTICLE 71 NOW. THIS IS A ROTTEN COUNTRY

Mr. Bentzil, the Master of PROBITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY said on the loud speakers in 1981 PNDC coup, "GIVE ME TWO YEARS TO REVAMP GHANA ECONOMY. IF I FAIL, DO WHAT YOU LIKE TO ME",said JJ Rawlings. How many Ghanaians were sacrificed on 'revolutionary' altars? 138 including 5 High Court Judges after 6 GENERALS in 1979, civilian accountants, Bank Managers, Bank of Ghana Clerical Officer and many other civilians in 'shady govt.deals' some tied with cement blocks and thrown into Atlantic Ocean arrested and flown from NSAWAM MEDIUM SECURITY PRISONS.
If HARD LESSONS HAVE NOT BEEN LEARNT, please ask yourself, WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF CORRUPTION? My answer is IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY coupled with LACK OF COMMON SENSE associated with IMBECILE GHANAIANS. As one said IF YOUR BROTHER IS A MONKEY OR GOAT, WHAT ARE YOU? ALSO A MONKEY OR A GOAT. No amount of uprisings, revolutions, demonstrations, punishment, admonitions can cure GHANAIAN IMBECILITY, STUPIDITY, IGNORANCE, LACK OF COMMON SENSE from the TOP RULING CLASS to the LOWEST CLASS OF THE SOCIETY.
Who voted for the inbecile politicians to mess up the economy?
Who counted the 2012 General Election votes erroneously?
What is the qualification/class of the electoral commissioner who refused to admit the errors of recording the votes?
WHO DECIDED THE CASE AMIDST ALL THE FLAWS OF THE ELECTION RESULTS and who are welding machettees 'to make blood flow' if Prez. installed by mistakes that 'can not derail democracy' what else can derail derail democracy. ANSWERS: THEY ARE ALL GHANAIANS FROM LOWER TO UPPER CLASSES OF THE SOCIETY with ignorance and stupidity the bedrock of their existence, mimicked by outsiders.
IF EVEN ONE GHANAIAN PREZ. HAS THE KNOWLEDGE AND PROWESS TO BRING ABOUT A CHANGE OF OUR CIRCUMSTANCE, OUR LAMENTATION WOULD STOP OVERNIGHT. In conclusion, LET THE SLEEPING DOGS SLEEP. BARKING MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO THE INVADING THIEVES and INAPPROPRIATE SYSTEM THAT NEEDS CORRECTION. THE SAVIOUR IS NOT AVAILABLE. MOST LIKELY THE WORK OF GOD.

Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants such as armed civilians (or "irregulars") use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, the element of surprise, and extraordinary mobility to dominate a larger and less-mobile traditional army, or strike an invulnerable target, and withdraw almost immediately

This then turns to another matter because there are so many bootlickers even outside the ruling class.
See until today I have yet to find and read a story about the "new President meeting Manufacturers, Business and Employment Class".
Now they have something called GYEEDA, long ago we have the "Labour Office" who takes care of employment and basta! Why today we have so much names only to find the youth introduce to us and "refuse collectors". Long time ago the city council pays these workers. Today the state pays care of some company? .

The spirits of those murdered in vain during Rawlings era are fighting back, because Rawlings made some people accountable but failed to make himself accountable to Ghanaians.Hence, the problems we {Ghanaians} are facing now.Ghana fighting of corruption must start from Rawlings first otherwise no leader either NDC or NPP can seriously fight corruption.

We better start checking the political elites with all tools in our hands so that we shall not pay dearly in the future.
Let us remember that Ghana is the only nation we have so there is the need that we do not sit down for the few to swerve us of our rights due to our foolishness. We do not have to follow party politics without be realistic with what happens.
A man will smoke his own marihuana [wee] and when arrested will be jailed many years, but a politician will smartly steal government money in millions of dollars and will walk free.
This situation raises alarm that there is something wrong with the system in which we live.

When ever I visit Ghana on holidays, I cry within my self, seeing Kaya yoyo and other able bodied youth on the streets selling biscuits and sweets in the scorching sun, instead of being in school, just because the education system does not favour them- the dropouts from JHS.What type of society are we building, a CLASS SOCIETY? If steps are not taken to address the imbalance in the society, the marginalised will rise one day, and the result will be catastrophic, I tell you. The unabated cases of armed robbery is symptomatic of our failure to intergrate our JHS and SSS dropouts with vocational skills to make them employable. Mr Bentil, election results in Ghana are largely determined by those you referred to as "neglected and forgotten section of the society".Though the Middle Class know the issues and are more capable of selecting good leaders, the lower class in our society will never listen to them.No doubt the lower class cannot distinguished between lies, propaganda and truth. They vote largely on very small handouts from politicians and tribalism. Most of them have fixed mindsets and it's difficult to get them to reason. The poor in Ghana vote to become poorer and poorer and so they don't have any reason to blame anybody for their poor living condition but themselves.

But then again, what is the point? They will always be waved through the queue to see the doctor they went to school with ahead of others in the queue.
Am I condeming the Old School network? No, as long as we make our schools work properly for everybody and those that need vocational training can access it without the monies being siphoned off in NYEP and GYEEDA etc.
Am I advocating egalitarianism, socialism? Certainly not as long as as our political leaders who control OUR national cake have the passion to see to the sharing of the cake equitably!
FREEZE THE PAY OF POLITICIANS FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS and enable only those with the vision and passion for our national development to get into politics.

It is the whole public that has to find solution to difficult problems that they face but not the middle class. When we talk of public,it means the govt, you and I also have responsibility to help build the nation. We voted for politicians to manage the affairs of the country. Both the govt and the opposition parties have the responsibility to manage the national resources together,in unity we stand. This has nothing to do with the middle class who are economically secured or well educated.Mr Bentil should challenge the intellectuals who studied Political Science,Law and Administration to team up and find pragmatic solutions facing the country. It is not only by demanding answers from politicians that you can solve problems.IMANI GHANA as a think thank can also put forward pragmatic policies but not just to suggest that no Minister should be sent abroad for medical reason, this is very childish.Countries are not built from the middle only but by good direction given by leaders and the people together. What Mr Bentil is trying to do is to divide Ghana into 2 classes, the rich against the poor.He is cleverly instigating the poor against the rich or the lower class against the middle class. This is a very dirty propaganda from IMANI GHANA.A good leader is the one who unifies his people for a common good but not to divide them as enemies so that one should slaugther the other.Mr Bentil,I will give you 0/100 if I have to make your thesis.Thank you.

I am a Ghanaian leaving abroad I love my country and planning to return home soon. You have hit the nail right on the head. The middle class need to act now because the anger of the down trodden will not discriminate those who have made genuine wealth from those who made their wealth from corruption. We have example from our recent history to refer to. The June 4th uprising targeted all rich people and some innocent wealthy people suffered for no wrong doing. So if the middle class bury their heads in the sand and pretend nothing is happening they will leave to regret one day. The time to act is now let come together and demand accountability from our leaders on behalf of those who haven't got the means to do so. Let put politics aside and put mother Ghana and humanity first. I was in Ghana in August and think that what you have touched on is present and a clear danger and no right thinking Ghanaian middle class should have the luxury to ignore your warning. Keep up your good work.

There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. God bless your heart for bringing this points up. You have said nothing but the truth. I believe once we begin to realize this problems and talk and act on ways to solve them, life will be good for all Ghanaians. The majority ignorant and sometimes a few very foolish ones among them must be made aware that it is wrong to follow political parties (NDC/NPP) like we follow football clubs. (Hearts and Kotoko)These politicians have been hired to work for us, the people of Ghana, and it is our God given right to demand accountability from them. We pay them with our tax money, don't we? So they have no right to take what does not belong to them. They have no right to be rich overnight. (before their term ends, unless it is the legal payment they receive) The very foolish and sometimes poor who back the politician when they do wrong by comparing it to another wrong by a different politician must be discouraged through intense education on RADIO and TV that one wrong does not justify another. CORRUPTION, BRIBERY and other VICES in office is WRONG, and must never be condoned. Ghana is for all of us. If you are in politics, it does not make you more Ghanaian than those outside it or the less privileged. The Gold, oil, timber and other natural resources in Ghana belong to ALL GHANAIANS. Therefore the money that comes from the sale of these must benefit EVERY GHANAIAN; NOT JUST SOMBODY IN SUIT called POLITICIAN. Long live Ghana.

The gentleman as a social commentator like most of us, was just pointing out what is happening in the country, and predicts that if it is not checked, those on whom the burden falls may react in a certain way. What is wrong with that. If you continue to experience constant power cut such that you can't even do your business unless you hire a generator and nobody seem to care, whiles prices for goods and this(electricity) and other services continue to rise, will you tolerate it till you die? Have you realized that those who can afford to find other alternative sources of water and electricity supply are doing so? Do you think everybody can do that? If no, why should they (those who can't) be left helpless? Think about it. This is not about any political party that you are sympathetic to, after all, they have all failed us. May Ghana be the winner.

The truth is always the truth. Agya Bentil speaks my heart out. He is a Prophet whose words must not be ignored. The level of intolerance in the country stemming from economic hardships the people are facing, clearly signals the inevitable Sahara Uprising in Ghana. The NDC people have not the human resources to govern the country. They have sharp and sharpened teeth to pack lies for sale to the suffering people. Read the Book of Amos 6:3 (GOOD NEWS VERSION) "YOU REFUSE TO ADMIT THAT A DAY OF DISASTER IS COMING, BUT WHAT YOU DO ONLY BRINGS THAT DAY CLOSER". Surely, the people will say to HELL WITH DEMOCRACY AND ELECTIONS. The hungry man would prefer to die with the corrupt people. Agya Bentil, let the fools ignore your warning and they will live to regret one day. Mahama and the NDC have nothing to offer the country.
surely, Nana Addo is coming and RIDE NATTY RIDE. WE HAVE SOMETHING THEY CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY. THE PEOPLE WILL SPEAK AND GOD WILL HEAR THEM. THOSE WHO HAVE EARS LET THEM HEAR WHAT AGYYA BENTIL IS SAYING. AMEN!

Where was Bentil in the late 80s and 90s? We saw this way back and fought for NPP to come to power only to come to create, loot and share. What happened to the grants and loans that came into the country? Who ever accounted to anybody? There were so many uncompleted projects scattered all over the country and what did they do? Scrambling for government property and converting them into private ownership. Deal with those first, at least NDC is trying.
