More and more it seems like the gov't of Ghana is simply becoming a puppet for the goals and aspirations of others. A ban on rice imports except through the sea ports or KIA; whilst it might have the effect of lowering rice imports, it also stinks of some dirty deal to increase the cash in some shady politician's/business mans pocket.
When we look at the water shortage in Accra, and all the used water bags lying in our streets, don't we wonder why gov't hasn't taken steps to fix pollution and access to clean drinking water for these last 20+ years... I can only imagine that someone with clout has consistently looked after their own interests. The amount of money we waste on all the judgment debts could have easily been used to fix this "simple" problem
Now this ban on essentially all rice imports by locals/West Africans. Instead, shouldn't we simply have an annual quota for all rice imports, then have people actually bid on how much they would pay for a license to import a certain quantity. Wouldn't this be more fair and accomplish the same result. Rather, we are making this policy to increase the rice import from China!
