Is the Economic Partnership Agreement a good deal for Ghana?
We must take decisions in the best interest of our people.
We import much more from Europe than we export there. It would seem that removing duty from 80% of imports from Europe in return for no duty on 100% of our exports is not particularly good.
The fact that Europe is imposing a deadline for signing and implementing the deal is of great concern.
We must scrutinise the details of this deal and reject it if it is not in our national interest.

Our leaders do not seem to understand EU's new tactics to impose its will on the whole world - their new way to colonize the world. We should not allow that!! Let them fume, burn and wallow in their selfish desires; we can find new trade partners and the EU will have to go through the back door to buy our products. Their own citizens will suffer. I hope Kwesi Amissah understands.

I do recall that several years ago when this concept of opening up markets was being muted and it was obvious that Europe and the US were out to dump their surplus and moreover subsidized goods and services on developing countries; President Nyerere of Tanzania suggested that our countries be allowed to export our unemployed men and women because their wages would be lower. The response was total silence. These agreements will only make more of our people unemployed. They will dictate the shape, size and weight of all our goods to ensure entry of only 5% of our exports to them. My people need to smarten up and understand how cunning the Europeans are.

Nkrumah told us long time ago that African unity and collective decision are the way forward-50+ years down the line we are still being idiots-our recourses are depleting, the population getting poorer and so on. What are we made of Africans kuraaaa? Europe (enslavers and exploiters for 400+ years and beyond)is not the only part of the world and if what they want is not to our ultimate collective interest we should not take it point blank. Africa has alternatives now and we must utilise all options if it benefits us. After all there is no point Ghana being first world and the rest of africa being third world because the rest of Africa will be trooping to Ghana and that will not work as our economy will collapse again.
