I reserve the right as a citizen of Ghana to protect and defend my honour and integrity should this civilized challenge for the truth be ignored.
This is not the price I should be made to pay by the Government of Ghana for defending the Constitution of Ghana in the Waterville and Isofoton unconstitutional payments declared by the Supreme Court.

It appears Jim does not know very much about labour relations, collective agreement, bargaining, etc.. Contrary to what you think and have unfortunately written., striking is never a right given by any law... Yes, the constitution guarantees the right to form and be part of associations including labour unions, etc.. It also grants the rights to collective bargaining etc.. STRIKES are never enshrined in the constitution of any country. This why strikes are generally termed "illegal" . Under normal circumstance, the government would not wage in any labour dispute until ample time is given for the parties involved to solve the issue. When this is not achieved the government can then come in and ORDER or force the striking workers back to work and impose an arbitration. Know that the employer (being the government or private company) has the right to close down the work and ORDER the striking workers off its property. This practice is called a LOCK OUT". So, striking is never guaranteed by the constitution contrary to what you think..

R u really a new Yorker? I don't know what happens if you go on strike in US but I can say with authority that in the UK you don't get paid if you are on strike because you haven't done any work. Calling for the suspension of their salaries is the right call. Gov't could use that money to buy drugs for use in hospitals in the hinterland where those who get nothing out of the consolidated fund live. 500,000 Ghanaians are sharing 95% of gov't revenue for doing 'jack shit' and they want more. What happens to the 23 million plus Ghanaians?

Also know that a father and a child cannot live the same lifestyle no matter which ever way you view it he is your father and you are the child and so he decides for you and so refusing to do what is expected of you will not only affect you and your future as an individual but your generation yet unborn.

If workers think leaders are looting the wealth of the nation and thus their strike is justify then they should tell ALL the leaders in Ghana that their strike is a protest against their looting.
if it is about salary then the workers should understand that this very government and the previous one of Atta Mills have done well with the implimentation of the single spine salary SSS, the headache of the nation's economy. Despite the difficulty of the economy Kufour left behind, with budget deficit anf national debt also, the NDC regime had tried to raise workers salary quadruply. A thing which should not have been done but because of the love and concerned the NDC had for workers they sacrificed to make workers happy, and therefore with such a negative reaction from the workers it will cause Nunoo Mensah to come out open with this statement that we hear.
Many should understand that even the head of the so called democracy USA does not allow workers in cetain depatments in the nation to go on strike. No wonder ex-president of Italy Professor Prodi advised Africans to come out with their own Democracy to stablize their political and economical stand.
I loved the demostration of Nunoo, that he had tried to built school blocks for O'Reilly senior high school at least to help the economy. In reality if every Ghanaian in similar situation could offer such a help to our nation, then we will be making a headway positively.
In my personal opinion, the workers should exercise the maximum patience in the form of sacrifice to help the govt to position the economy so that we shall all come to have a steady economy.
In many developed economies, one may not be paid when one is on strike, just as I mentioned in the USA there are departments that do not go on strike according to law. Workers have right to go on strike in Ghana but it should not be based on politics, as it does happen most times with us in this nation. I hope the workers will try to understatnd the nation's economical woes, and humbly sacrifice to help better it for all of us.

As usual the general is talking a load of rubbish. Teachers are the lowest paid in the land. His pension is a lot more than a graduate teacher makes. Why is there such a disparity. The present teacher cannot afford to feed himself and his family but the ex soldier wants the teacher, who earns a pittance, to keep quiet and turn his children into future leaders when his have no future. Shame on all of them. Tell the general to go and tell the MPs to reduce their salaries and expenses so others can be paid a little more.

After burning the chores of hard working traders at the markets, they are still not satisfied. The leaders of these striking workers are nothing but strong supporters of the up/npp tradition. They are only exploiting the innocent hard working Ghanaians just to satisfy wicked and evil people like kufour, akuffo addo, jake otanka lamptey,ic Quaye, Ursula owusu, Sammy awuku, sir John and what have you. It was the forefathers of these bad people who inflicted curse on mother Ghana through the 24th February bloody coup of 1966. If we have such bad company in our country how can mother Ghana grow into prosperity?

The level of frustration in the voice of the General is palpable, and his choice of words, is evident that, the Mahama-Amissah Arthur administration has clearly lost the plot, and it's time, Ghanaians marshaled the needed strength to send them into the dustbin of history, when the opportunity presents itself in 2016. Like they say in local parlance, " a gy3 nsa mu" - it's completely out of their hands literally.
Is the General saying that Ghanaians are not sacrificing? Is the General saying that Ghanaians are indisciplined? I can cite examples from every sector of gov't where Ghanaians have sacrificed a lot, a whole lot, to keep the systems and structures of governance working. I can cite a lot of examples where discipline has been exhibited profoundly by Ghanaians, the absence of which the country would be in tatters by now.
The most recent case that reared it's ugly head was the issue of nurses not having been paid for close to 2 years at the nations premier hospital Korle Bu, but still reported for work day in and day out. If this is not sacrifice and discipline, then I don't know what it is.
The SSSS salary structure was poorly implemented by the incompetent NDC gov't to score cheap political points and indeed, Fifi Kwetey, Ablakwa and Ofosu Kwakye and his ilk, went to town showering praises on themselves, when it was evident that, they didn't have a scintilla of idea of what the structure entailed and what exactly they were doing.
The economic fundamentals which were to drive the process, has been incompetently and ineptly managed by the Mahama-Amissah Arthur administration. To add salt to injury, a swat team of mercenary thieves have descended on the national kitty, plundering, looting, stealing and carting away anything they can lay their hands on, from the coffers, and the President shamefully, had the guts to say that, the "proverbial meat is now left with the bones". Who ate the meat? Was it Ghanaians who had to forgo their salaries, their health related issues because of lack of money, since even the NHIS, in some instances was not working and therefore, some institutions - KATH had to resort to the cash and carry system, was it Ghanaians who had to borrow from the micro finance companies to pay their children's school fees because the standard of living had escalated so much, taxes had gone up so much, new taxes had been introduced, all of which was cutting into the salaries of hard working Ghanaians, was it Ghanaians contractors who had to work in the midst of high interest on loans which they had borrowed from banks but, had to sacrifice and still work, although gov't had not paid them for close to about 3-4 years, and in this midst of all this, the executive paid themselves, fat salaries, travel allowances, per diems, sitting allowances, board meeting allowances, dress allowances, manicure, massage, pedicure allowances, free air tickets, etc, etc. The General should spare us nonsense and rather if the kitchen has become too hot for them to handle, which obviously, seems to be the case from his utterances, they should get the hell out for a team with the competence, experience and track record to get things done and fix it, to come and fix their markedly high levels of incompetence, crass and legendary ineptitude and the gargantuan and humongous thievery, which is sending the country into the doldrums.

Thanks Brigadier-General (rtd.) for telling the truth. Let the unions pay for their strikes, not the government. Governments pay workers to work not to strike. That is why they are called workers and they receive pay only when they work, not idle around.

We know what they can do. kill people that's all! As for "clogssag", they only clog the public system. They are part of the problem in the country. The civil and public services of Ghana have become parasites feeding on the toils and taxes of the private sector for doing nothing. It must stop. The General is right.
