Corruption in Ghana, started with Nkrumah. Was he accountable for anyone during those day and who was that person? Who or whom did he consult before giving out our monies to some nations in Africa as well as supporting freedom fighters across the continent? Remember that the money given to us by our colonial master, was for Ghana only and not Africa. Before he was overthrown, there was debt. Also, remember that Ghana borrowed money in constructing the Akosombo Dam so, what happened to all the money he inherited?
Nkrumah should be blamed for all the chaos going on in Ghana because he did not lay a solid foundation when he became the president. Why was he interested in uniting Africa at that time, something he knew was impossible and how much money was sank into that useless African unity all at the expense of Ghana?

@ Pelicles, Indeed professional corruption started with NK but prior to that the indirect rule that placed authority in the hands of the chiefs was also saw serious corrupt practices, moreover, corruption was also applied as a tool by the Europeans to deliberately sabotage and derail the activities and progress of NK. You mentioned that about two hundred million was in the coffers of Ghana before it was handed over to NK, that is true, where that money went can be seen all over the place, the Tema township, the Tema harbor, The Tema Motorway, UST, University of Cape Coast, Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi, to mention but few, these were foundations laid but very little has been done after his overthrow since 1966...

Corruption is a character trait of Ghanaians – people started chopping as soon as independence was handed to us. The ministers, MPs, brigade leaders and all who was who then started chopping. Hate to tell you this considering my family was staunch CPP supporters. Have you heard of names like Krobo Edusei, Aye Kumi, Djaba, Gbedema, Ahomka Lindsay and the rest? When Nkrumah was busy gallivanting for African unity, the usual Ghanaian trait of corruption reared its ugly head and we have not been able to sever that head. Corruption has become the new normal for Ghanaians; they will tell you it is the government money so everyone can chop some. Of course, what do we expect when there are no consequences for corruption? What has Mahama done so far about Woyome, GYEEDA and the rest – the criminals are walking around with impunity. We can only blame the person in charge so it is now up to Mahama to cure the cancer.

Prez Mahama & his govt. Who corrupts who? Ghanaian money-mongers, money-hungary crooks are the very individruals who move heaven & earth to achieve their ugly goals by bribbing even the tiniest public represetative. And this is true in the private sector. No! We Ghanaians are the primary vectors of this eternal woe & the only issue is a radical change in our mentality i.e, H.O.N.E.S.T.Y.!!

The unnecessary gold chain award that Kufour gave to himself. Where are the government bungalows that his people bought for themselves. Where are all the expensive cars they bought for Ghana at 50. The list go on and on. So you see all of them are guilty of the crime they are blaming on just this government.
And I don't know who came up the ex-gratis. Most of the ex government officials are still leaving in the government bungalows so stop pointing fingers at others. They are all guilty of the crime they are committing against the citizens of Ghana.

Yes, there's the need to put Ghana's culture of corruption in perspective. However, John Mahama, as the President, bears responsibility for his everything wrong with his Government. Whether he knows personally about corrupt and fraudulent activities of his administration or not, he appointed his own Ministers[both the criminal-minded and honest ones], he has the responsibility to ensure that the country's anti-corruption institutions and agencies work efficiently in their fight against corruption. And if his NDC Administration is being perceived as highly corrupt, it's President Mahama's politics, and leadership style which have created the conducive and colluding atmosphere for the growth of astronomical corruption.

I challenge thinking Ghanaians to show where the corruption under the Nkrumah regime comes close to the in-your-face thievery that continues since the 1966 coup; No one can point to national lands that were stolen and or sold on the cheap to cronies under the Nkrumah regime and no one can show any of the Nkrumah era ministers retiring to enjoy the type of ex-gracia packages that is going on. In fact J.J. Rawlings who was possibly cleaning toilet in secondary school or playing in sand at the time decided to take away homes that were ever owned by the Nkrumah era ministers and yet J.J. Rawlings wanted the nation to replace his or her mother’s burnt-out house.
The era of unashamed and unrepentant thievery was ushered in by Ghanaians who wanted money without work, property without earnings and development without paying taxes soon after the 1966 coup. These are the very people who keep providing and promising free things to Ghanaians and wonder why Ghana is in so much debt. Did any of the Nkrumah era guys and gals leave office with cars, homes and multiple accounts? The story we all heard growing up was that Nkrumah and his bunch looted Ghana and yet no one has shown anyone of the Nkrumah era ministers and district commissioners living the life-style that Kufour, Asabe, Jake Obesteibi-Lamptey, J.J. Rawlings and others do live now after less than 8 years serving as ministers, members of parliament or holding managerial posts within the government civil service jobs.. Unfortunately these lies has to continue to convince fools that swallow the trash fed by both NDC and NPP each day in the life of a Ghanaian to keep us all wanting.

All these leaders who seek power and get have at the back of their minds to change their financial circumstances. Because they have to change their financial circumstances, usually through corrupt practices, they dont have the moral authority to introduce measures to prevent or reduce corruption.
The truth is the sure way to reduce or prevent corruption is to introduce transparency into our national dealings. It will be very difficult to engage in malfeasance if our national activities are made transparent. By transparency, I mean any economic activity must be dealt with in transparency.

To minimize corruption, Ghanaians should exhibit HONESTY and respect the RULE OF LAW. Anything other than these two things to fight corruption, will fail. Honest people do not steal or lie and the long arm of the law must be allowed to deal with anyone no matter what that person's stature. From the president to the last Ghanaian walking the land, should be made to respect the law or nothing will work in Ghana.
As we speak, Mahama is the president and the bucks stops with him likewise any president. His failure to hold corrupt officials in his administration, is have a ripple effect across the nation and he is being viewed as giving the green light for such destructive force to destabilize our nation.

Every Ghanaian including the president must learn to depend on their salary.Ghanaian judges have the nerves to jailed a man 10yrs form smoking marijuana but they can`t have no balls to jailed nobody for corruption for the fact that they are all corrupted from the top. GHANA'S "LEADERS" ARE FOOLING THEMSELVES AND THEIR GOD, FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT, AND THAT'S WHAT GHANA'S SUCCESSIVE LOOTING LEADERSHIP MUST REMEMBER!
ATTA-MILLS DIED LIKE A BABOON, AND THAT WAS HIS NEMESIS FOR THINKING HE COULD FOOL GHANAIANS AND GET AWAY WITH IT!!
NEMESIS WILL CATCH UP WITH ALL OF GHANA'S WICKED CORRUPT LEADERS, PAST AND PRESENT, ONE BY ONE, LIKE IT DID WITH ATTA-MILLS AND THE ALIEU MAHAMA.
THESE TWO GOONS DIED PREMATURELY AND PAINFULLY LIKE RATS, AND THAT WAS NEMESIS IN ACTION!!
FOR EVERY PESEWA THAT GHANA'S LEADERS LOOT FROM THE NATION'S POOR, THEY SHOULD REMEMBER ONE SIMPLE NATURAL PHYSICAL LAW:
"TO EVERY ACTION, THERE CERTAINLY IS AN EQUAL AND OPPOSITE REACTION".
THE LAW OF KARMA WILL CATCH UP WITH THEM ALL, ONE BY ONE!!!

Really guys, do you want solutions to this cancer called corruption? Please no insults to Pratt or Baako, that is their opinion being expressed.
I do however have a solution, and that is setting up courts that are there solely to oversee and judge cases involving stealing of government funds or property by individuals whether public or private.
I am sure I am not the first person to mention this on this forum. If you really want to bring this problem to its barest minimum, then jail offenders and for sure we will see progress! Are they really seeking it?
Corruption courts are the answer!
