Did the TUC raise the automatic tariff adjustment issue at the recent meeting on the tariff increases or was it after the meeting that this reminder was made?
I believe not everybody understands what the problem is. Those who attempt to explain it talk in percentages and not in cedis and pesewas. Why not make it simple by telling the customers how much they are now paying for electricity and how much they will be expected to pay with the new increases. The only person who dealt with this as far as know is Tarzan who compared the cost of a candle to that of a kw electrity.
To make a good case for or against the increase one must have clear view of the situation. The questions are: how much does it cost the companies to generate and ditribute electricity and how much do they earn as income?. How much do they have as profit? I think they have to pay money to the government, buy new equipment, do research and their day to day expenditure. If after all these considerations we think they have made far too much profit, then we can scream at them. We want the electricity to flow so we must find a way out. Leaders of some organisations try to use the general public as shield for their aims. They fail to consider both sides of the case they are dealing with. Come with your figures and justify your case. Perhaps we have forgotten the blackout so soon. If we don't come to terms with our problems now, we will be in a a worse situation in the very near future. Some people delayed in taking action and that's why we are in this situation now.
