Teaching is a noble profession. Materially there is not much to show for it. Satisfaction wise if dedicated , there is much. Walk into an office and some one says " that is my teacher"

My problem with these awards is how do they arrive at such choices. When will a teacher from deprived areas like Afram Plains, teaching under trying conditions be chosen too. These choices are nothing but political.

I know of a teacher who taught at Okuapemman and did not run to Nigeria for Greener pastures. He was called Azorlebu and taught Maths from Form 1 to the Sixth Form. He never missed class and organized free maths classes. He was always broke but hard working. Yet, he was never even considered for district awards. It is just like scholarship awards to Western Europe, Canada and the USA are always given to children of party activists and government appointees who may be academically poor while the brilliant kids from poor families are made to fend themselves. That is Ghana.

Ghanaian leaders are useless. When children are learning under trees, they are building for best teachers as awards. When a whole school has no computer, they are giving computers to individual teachers as awards. So funny.

Another question is whether it is rationale to use this amount of money at a time when pupil have no where to study. What about nurses, doctors, etc.

look at America or Europe, people are rewarded for their efforts. Other teachers will see and strife to gain that instead of running away to teach in the cities or abroad.

An excellent initiative and hopefully a good incentive for teachers to know they are valued however tough the job is and however much they feel things are not easy. Congratulations!!

I look forward to seeing teachers telling these useless politicians to go to hell with this one-house-for-a teacher type of incentives. Asiedu Nketia's boys quarters is ten times worth more than that.
