Adamu, I agree with you. I really cannot understand why they dont rather expand the Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi airports.
If they used their common-sense and did that, not all international flights will have to land in Accra and no matter how small Accra airport is, it will be able to handle as many flights as is necessary to land there.
In addition this will boost development in the hinterland in a way that nothing else can.
I strongly suspect that this most stupid decision can only have been taken by one of those disorientated and spaced-out Ghanaian academics.
Other than that, somebody must have some sneaky ulterior motives behind the building of an additional airport in Accra and I am not surprised that the acreage of land needed for the new airport has been revised upwards two times already.
This increased demand for more land for the airport is obviously meant to have extra land available for greedy politicians to speculate on.
Most of East Legon was land that had been originally acquired for the building of an airport extension for the Accra airport in the sixties to enlarge it into one of the biggest airports in the world.
What happened? After the slaves overthrew Kwame Nkrumah on the instructions of their slave masters, greedy soldiers, mentally retarded traditional authorities and infernally corrupt politicians swarmed the area and encroached on all that land and begun to sell the rest off to friends and cronies.
Mark my word, the same thing is going to happen again if this stupid second airport in Accra idea goes ahead. The signs are evident for those who have eyes to see.

For that reason Delta,Klm,British Airways would go to second airport unless the first is closed. They can do like New York city & London where in NYC JFK handles flights out of country and Laquardia handles flights to citys around the Country..I bet only 1 flight per day or less goes to the actual capital of Nigeria from Delta, klm or BA..90% go to Lagos..Tamale would be the MUSLIM airport for sending people to visit Mecca!

Thank you, Mr. Cobad, for hitting the nail on the head. The truth is that those who built the ammunition depot where it is did so "in the bush" because there was no single house there. Those who chose to build near the security installation and those who sold the lands to them should be ashamed of themselves. Interestingly, people say most of the settlers in the area are either exsoldiers or serving. How come

Even tough the Bad was initially located those days when the area was isolated we need to recognize that growth and development is a fundamental principle of urbanization. The sudden pressure on the surrounding areas of BAD came as a rseult of urbanization which resulted in the presence of political flexibility to maintain power.Presently there will be no political will to relocate the dwellers around. The big men know this. There have been sypnosis boards set up by the military and experts. They have their findings and recommendations on file, The question is why the inaction. The present CO is ignorant about facts surrounding BAD and if he read them or knew about them his job will be at stake if he ries to push too hard ahead of his superiors. However once the problem is now up again in the public domain we shall help with our contributions. Frankly speaking the only way forward is to relocate the BAD far away to probably Shai hills area specifically where Kwame Nkrumah had his magazine during the construction of the motorway, That place is an ideal place.where it is presently is open to any sabotage and attack.THhe security of the area is very weak even though the military thinks it is well protected.

He will be one of the first to face the firing squad on the D-Day. If we dont get him, we will get his children who have benefited from his criminality that has reduced the Ghanaian to misery and poverty.
