With the level of corruption in the utility companies, no amount of hikes will ever make them viable. The bot is leaking and the whole must be blocked. The government must be seen to be blocking it. Taking temporary remedies of conniving and condoning with the utility companies to further squeeze the real Ghanians is an acceptable.

It is not enough to go on asking poor Ghanians who have been asked numerous times to tighten their belts and wait for their share in heaven to go on surffeing, while those in Government give themselves fat salaries and steal monies to insulate themselves from their own bad policies and incompetence.

Ghanians are paying for these trips. people like you will ok it and that is why we are struggling. I rest my case.

Do same with electric and water..Some citys have their own water systems, Countys have them..Same with electric you have City electric systems and Private companys like Con-ED, Duke Power, Southern Company ( Ga Power & Ala Power)...You can bet they can sell power cheaper because they will sign long term contracts for oil/gas or coal needed to run generators and build dams to get (free) hydropower! My electic co-op bill is usally $48 for 300 kwh(kilo watt hours) per month! Only people that keep their house cold(like cold storage) suffer big electric bills or have electric heat in North in winter..They may have $200(400 cedi) bills

A 79% increase means ghana now pays about 36 pesewas per unit, or other things being equal. Remember that the utilities imports machines and spare parts from outside thus having higher costs than those countries. We need not sell them.

In Ghana some consumers pay 7 pesewas per unit but that cant be used as the average.
