You mean Ghana should run schools without a ministry in charge of them, Is that right? How is that possible? You may have concerns of how the ministry is handling the affairs of the education system and wanna see things changed but don not call for a total scrapping of a ministry. You calling for a reform of the ministry would have been right, but suggesting that they scrap it is totally insane. This is why we will always remain a 3rd world with such awful ideas. I think I can come out with more positive ideas to build the country more than you, even though I am only a form 4 leaver( the class of 1974 ).

The son of a Trokosi hooker called JJ Rawlings is to blame for all this. This idiot did the most unthinkable thing by closing down the whole universities in Ghana for demonstrating against him, a situation that caused chaos the following year because of overcrowding.

Next he dropped the sixth form and cut the Senior High into half, thus bringing our pre-tertiary education from 7 years straight down to 3 years. No fool on this planet will ever do something like this. Since then, our formal educational standard which was one of the best in Africa has plummeted to zero. Ashawo-ba JJ blindly followed the Nigerian Standard which has now caused the country to collapse. Thank you JJ, for being so foolish as to destroy this country.

Nowadays what do we see in our public basic schools? All the teachers there major preoccupation is to pursue distance education to acquire 1st degree and then 2nd degree and from there PhD using and stealing from their pupils contact hours and at the end they leave the GES. The worship of useless paper qualification is also killing education in Ghana. If you meet teachers discussing, all you hear them say is about who is a graduate teacher and who is not or who is a graduate professional and who is not. This is how far our useless university graduates have brought us.

The recipe for tackling the problem:
First, thoroughly evaluate every aspect of the system - what is working and what is not working.
Secondly, visit and study the educational system of those countries whose educational systems are working.
Third, I will break up the excessive centralization within the system. Might try a regional educational system.
Fourth, each region will have a year to submit a revision of its curriculum.

Yes that fool JJ, he is the main cause of our education. His education policies did produces many incompetence like the one we have in that Ministry of Education. Ghana kids can no longer compete when they come to U.S.

It's unfortunate, Ghana is a very corrupt country. I can only thank god for what I got from Ghana's education. The actual fact is you are on your own if you don't make it to top schools like achimota, mfatsipim and opku ware. ...
