THEY ONLY KNOW OF LOOTING THE NATIONAL COFFERS. INSTEAD OF JOBS CREATION,IT'S ALL ABOUT LOOTING, AND BORROWING, WHERE WE DO NOT SEE ANY REFLECTION ON THE BORROWINGS. THIS COUNTRY IN HANDS OF THESE GREEDY SHITS, IS HEADING TOWARDS OBLIVION. BASIC NECESSITIES LIKE DRINKING WATER, FEEDER ROADS, GOOD EDUCATION, UNEMPLOYMENT ARE THE ONLY ACHIEVEMENTS OF THIS GOVERNMENT, WHILST OUR HOSPITALS HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO GRAVE YARDS. WE CHASE POWER ONLY TO DESTROY, STEAL AND OPPRESS OUR OWN PEOPLE. SHAME TO THE BLACK MAN. THIS IS NOT HOW NKRUMAH WANTED FOR US. BASTARDS.

Ghana has abysmal infrastructure; IMF must know that unless that has been put right, there is no chance for Ghana to make any meaningful headway, economically. Can a country progress, economically, with decayed and near non-existent infrastructure - our roads are bad, some areas have none; no railways and/or other important transport facilities such as waterways, to make a free and easy movement of goods and foodstuffs around the country, let alone for export. Putting all our efforts and depending, solely, on extractive industries and cocoa production - an IMF preference - are, scarcely, the way forward for a country like Ghana to progress. Aside oil, Ghana has produced gold, manganese, diamonds, cocoa, coffee etc., for donkey years yet, Ghana has been in economic doldrums for many years. If Ghana borrows and invests, sensibly, in infrastructure and coupling it with oil production, it will make Ghana better. IMF has one-way advice and criticism - spend less and cut off social investment.

In five and half years that NDC has been in power the country's finances have been in shambles. They have no clue as to how to manage the economy. You mark my words, when IMF comes back to visit in early 2014, they are going to say that Ghana is insolvent and must file for bankruptcy. The previous mismanagement of the economy under Rawlings forced Ghana into HIPC and no doubt it will happen again under Mahama/Arthur led government.

With the advice from IMF I o not think this government will listen. They actually say well we have heard you but will not take it. The overloaded debts will eat us up. The so-called economists who think its good do not wish Ghana and its people well. China is great because they lived within their means. Made more profits and invested the profits of which they are living on. Can't Ghana do the same? And what can we show for the huge debts we have accumulated. Very sad indeed.

The economy is in a mess, but we can either come together as one...from the media, social commentators and NGOs to even politicians to flag up where we need to be going as a country and the need to cut corruption and incompetennce or we can "shout" at each other and be smug or defensive.
Ghana is not for one party or president, or ethnic group, if we don't put our heads together to put pressure to move this country forward then we will just be a failed African country....alwyas thinking Mahama is right or Mahama is a buffon is not going to move this country forward.

The IMF and World Bank have to accept some of the blame for the current account deficit they are talking about. They bullied Ghana gov'ts to accept Structural Adjustment Programmes with conditionalities that have proven disastrous to the economy. These guys insisted that Ghana liberalized trade. That's open its borders to all kinds of imports. They insisted that gov'ts sell national productive assets- Ashanti Goldfield, and others.
In an economy where almost everything we consume is imported, and we rely on export of few (raw) commodities whose prices fluctuate daily, is it's any surprise that the economy is in this state? Since our Import expenditure exceeds or Export receipts, there will always be a Current Account deficit. Until Ghana starts to Manufacture some of the basic products we consume, unemployment will continue to be high. Gov't budget deficit will continue to be high, simply because gov't revenues don't match its expenditure. The country is facing an imminent danger, for relying on foreign debt capital. The day that these foreign investors decide to cash out, the country would be in for a rude awakening, a la Thailand and the Asian financial crisis.

Is anybody commenting here an economist? if you people are, you are not sounding as one. The bank IMF team talked about the challenges facing the economy in the short term is a risk because of falling prices of gold and cocoa. They also talked about Ghana's reliant on foreign debt to support government expenditures.
They also praised the government ability to curb public spending and measures put in place to reduce public bill. They also said the medium term prospects are ecouraging. So wise people What do we tell the Government?
The little Knowledge i have, i urge the Government to diversify into other areas of export including technology, artifacts, agric and also lay a solid foundation to increase tourism and more importantly, protect local businesses to increase taxes to reduce long term effect on accumulated interest to be paid to the foreign capital and its fx burden.
