John Mensah on the other hand, doesn't even have a club. The player has not been playing for ages now. Therefore, I don't see the reason to call him. Stephen Appiah suggested it and now Kwasi Appiah wants to consider it? I hope it is not true.

Abedi Pele, Mohammed Polo, Opoku Nti, Anthony Yeboah, Sammy Kufour, and the rest, why are they not called to also play? Here is another example, and I'm not trying to disrespect the legend but to make a point. Since GFA wants to use unfit players, Emmanuel Quashie, I believe still in the mortuary, why can't we include him to the squad?

Like I stated, I hope this John Mensah's inclusion is just a rumor.

My father has passed and as well is in a mortuary now. He will be buried on the 5th of October, less than two weeks left. With just the thought of it, isn't a good feeling at all, so I understand your point. Your comment really hit home. In other words, I can feel the pain our Legend's family is going through at the moment, and reading such a comment from me, would remind them of their lost. Therefore thank you once again of drawing my attention for exhibiting such an insensitive character.

The coach tried to use most of the older players who won the 2006 WC, GUESS WHAT? THEY WERE KICKED OUT OF THE COMPETITION WITH EASE. Even Balotelli a younger and major Italy striker at the time was denied. My point is we should look at the performance statistics of the defenders. Several websites can prove who is who in performance: one website is SOFIFA.COM. Vorsah and Boye have better statistics than John Mensah. Even Jonathan Mensah who scores 65 in overall rating, to John's 71 beats the later when it comes to potential 76 to 71 respectively. Vorsah's strength is phenomenal at 90...never have I come across 90 for strength...that is beastly. We can work with Vorsah, Boye, Jonathan M, Afful, Akaminko, D. Addy, Opare, Rahman etc. The coach should not only tell his defenders what to do, but also make them rehearse his tactics over and over again.

What I know, OOPS!, what I believe is, Coaches make callups not because they are experts of the game, but simply, they are faithfully obeying their field of operations which is normally enshrined/dictated by their contract terms.
Sometimes, the 'name calling' is removed from from its operations.

The act, of scouting, monitoring and meer callups are sometimes donr by independent contractors.
It could be the sole prerogative of a committee who present names to the coach to act upon it.
Those in the committe are deemed 'the experts' who have eyes that sees and spot-on special peculiarities in players which a coach, you and I don't/might not see.

To wit, the coach's only onerous business is to organise, create an atmosphere conducive for teaching talents, albeit the acquisition of skills, cohesiveness, methodologies, strategies and the art of instilling winning attitude in players.

Interestingly, having removed a coach from being an expert of the game by my theory, it may interest you to know that soccer is the only industry that makes every one a coach. It gives the impetus, the audacity to everyone to criticize, offer highy objective/constructive and destructive suggestions. It allows every Tom, Dick and Harry,i.e. the tech-crew, politicians, the sports media, hardcore fans, as well as supporters to say their say without any contemptible hitch.
Why? cuz, its all about soccer where both formal and informal experts are considered or taken.
One couldn't do that in the medical and the lawyering industries, if you know what I mean.

I mean one who is formally trained as an expertise of the game. The other, even though untrained, have trailled the game for far too long. Has acquired the experiencee to unearthing talents hidden
from far and nook corners of the globe
and could adequately advise as well.

We see little things a coach might not see. Hence, the birth of the G-web soccer forum.
I hate to hear others shut others down for critisizing a coach: You are not a coach. Allow the coach to do his work. You don't know anything, amidst ill-names, tonnes of dehumanizing t3kr3ma talk, 'at3mdidie' and all that.

But for the sake of our passion for the game, the GBS being our main boggey 'Kontreman Club' and a great source of entertainment, one would have abstained from.....

Concerning John Mensah's, I'm as socked as you are. Here was what I posted.

"The competition among the Ghana Black Stars goalkeepers was stiff, but I think, it is about to be stiffer. Richard "Olele" Kingston has been monitored and a conclusion is being meditating upon by whether, according to a reliable source, to be included in the next squad or not. I was asked to watch his club's, Doxa, match the weekend and he wasn't bad, though, a bit rusty and also allowed 2 goals in his team's defeat to Ermis in the Cyprus league. The Oldman still has it and so will bring in a tougher competition among the keepers.

This may be surprised to some of you but Kingston has being on the coach's radar for the past months now. The question is, what do you think? Can the old hand help bring our secured goalkeeping department and its confidence back.

We used to have no problem when Olele was Olele. After his two unfortunate back-to-back fumbling followed by his outburst on Ghanaian fans, he wasn't trusted him anymore. Now he is back and the lest we could do is to give him the chance to justify his inclusion.

Now, is it right to bring in John Mensah? I don't think so. He may be still good, however, none of us has seen him play competitively for ages now. I have no idea and certainly don't see the reason of calling him.

Here is a question we need to ask ourselves" Are we that scared at the Egyptian team and so that causing the technical team to call a player who hasn't been playing for a while? What was Kwasi Appiah's basing it on to call the "Rock"? What was the principle or the standard Kwasi Appiah promised the nation to go by to judge or to decide whom to call? Was inactive player included in the criteria? If not then what makes him think included John Mensah can benefit the team? These young players have been battling and been good so far, so why bringing in an inactive player? Wouldn't that distract the team's chemistry?

If the player is active and fit, there is no way to leave him behind. Here the player is not active and surely not fit!

This is a crazy decision if it is true. Like I said the last time before someone rudely asked me "Who the Hell I was", and "I'm a BIG JOKE," I will say it again. The only thing that could keep him on his seat is when he does the right thing but an unfortunate sets in. If Kwasi Appiah couldn't take us to Brazil 2014 WC through childish decisions like this one, he shouldn't be allowed to continue his post as the Head Coach of the BS. After all, if he was a foreign coach, he wouldn't have been allowed to continue after letting the country down. Therefore, nothing should change when he messes up. The only hell one would see would be the coach's behind off the coaching seat.

Sellas Tetteh was in Rwanda and Maxwell Konadu did not want to quit Kotoko. He was even begged before he came to assist Kwasi Appiah. I suggested Abedi Pele and others should apply but none did. Meanwhile half-baked Ghanaians like Desailly of France or whatever he call himself were trying to charge Ghana more than that of those Serbian Vultures.

If nothing, Kwasi Appiah has struggled to get Ghana to where we are today despite the fact that some key players abandoned the team. Today they are all back and we have one of the strongest teams in Africa if not the strongest but you want the man who went through all this to quit .

Yes that's the true nature of Ghanaians, very ungrateful human beings who always hide behind tribal lines to achieve their fucking aim.

We couldn't have been here if we are not good. Any suggestion that we need some saviour player before we can beat Egypt is unwise. Egypt is just like how we prepared for the Zambia match. We have enough materials to dismiss them. There is no need to make dramatic new calls to join the Black Stars now. That is why I am full of admiration for Stephen Keshi for already naming his squad.
Panicky reactions are not needed now. I recall the panic that befell Accra Great Olympics whenever they were going to play Hearts of Oak. There was one instant when Oly had to migrate to Lome, Togo to prepare there before returning to Accra on match day to play Hearts at the Accra Sports Stadium because of fear of Hearts Officials influencing Oly players. By this, clearly Oly put themselves in a disadvantage and naturally, they were cool "chop" for Hearts.
Akwasi Appiah should be courageous and take control of the preparations. After all, he has nothing to lose. This is his make or break match. If we beat Egypt, he goes to Brazil and perhaps beyond. On the other hand, If we lose to Egypt, he will surely be out of job so he should not be afraid of anything. He must protect his job jealously. he must not allow any technical decision to be taken without his blessing.

Why should he be called? Richard Kingston's situation is different. He has began regular plying for a month now and has been playing regularly. Therefore it is okay to invite him to justify his inclusion. Secondly in Kingston's situation, Fafau Dauda, just got his working permit and has started playing for his club since he left Ghana. Adam Kwarassey too is not a regular player now due to his injury. This is why it is okay to invite Kingston for the challenge in that department.

You mentioned Roger Miller which to me sounds funny because the young players now are fit and have stamina. Do you think John Mensah can keep up with Mohammed Salah when that Egyptian cut across the defense? Think again. Already, John Mensah doesn't have good turning and you want him to be pair against Walid Soliman, Ahmed Hassan, Mohammed Aboutrika, who is even the most capped in the Egyptian's squad, do you think John Mensah can take him?

The players we have at the moment without John Mensah can get the job done. I don't see why Kwasi would choose to do so. Not that we don't need the experienced players. We do but only for them to attend the matches and encourage out young players. That is all what we need from them.

Essien has a team, John Mensah doesn't. Essien played competitive matches at Real before returning to Chelsea, John Mensah didn't. Essien's usual position is midfield when it come to the Black Stars; even though, he is a utility player, John Mensah's position is the last man before the shot keeper. Mistakes could not be tolerated when playing as the central defender.

You said, "When Healthy", and I like the fact that you even mentioned when JM lack the most. Is he healthy? Have you seen him played recently? When was the last time you saw JM in a competitive match even for 15 minutes?

For Vorsah, he is not coming back until somewhere October ending. Therefore, the first encounter with Egypt, I doubt he could be there. I see him in Salzburg (Austria) here at least once every week. I talk to him and ask him questions. It is just that I can't write anything about his recovery because according to him, even his medical stuff doesn't know the exact date of his return, though making good progress.

If we have him, we can talk about him. So you see, we don't have the pair, you mentioned, at hand. This is why we need to rely on the one we have and not to do anything to abuse their head work, determination and patriotism.

Let me ask you, are we building for just the Egypt match or for the WC? When John Mensah is called and could play for that 45 minutes you indicated, how do you expect him to be used during the WC tournament itself? How do you expect John Mensah to chase players like Salah, Wilcort, Alaba, CR7 and the rest in the WC matches?

Here is another example. Have you forgotten when LeRoy took about six none-fit players to Afcon 2008? What happened? When we needed them the most, that was the time they couldn't recover to feature. Do you want us to make the same mistake? Are you telling me we shouldn't learn from our past mistakes?

Don't let us fool ourselves. This time around the forward players out there are fast and have sharp turning, like Mercedes Benz when comparing them in terms of vehicles. Do you think JM can cope with that? Think about it, Kosmic. These young players can at least track these speedy players I mentioned.

By the way, I heard Essien will play the coming Chelsea match. Keep any eye on that. Let us assess him from this match.

That is my point.

I am sure JM can handle any defender when he is healthy....If he is match ready, no problem...even if he is just giving us 45 minutes, it would be quality minutes....You saw that in the last AFCON he played, he single handedly brought ghana to the stage we reached, even though he could not complete one match..including intentionally taking a red card to save ghana...Have you played competitive soccer in your life? Defending is not only speed...it require lot of anticipation and wits....JM can stabilize defense as Essien stabilize midfield...But we do not need to argue, the technical team will observe him close up. Egypt has invited 33 players to camp. There is no limit to the number of players AA and his team can invite to camp to compete for slots...JM is not replacing any one..He is just getting the chance to compete against the younger ones...it will only help ghana, if there is more competition. To answer one of your questions, for now we are ONLY preparing for Egypt....There is no need preparing for the WC because we are yet to qualify...It would be foolish for anyone to think about the WC now...We could be out by Christmas..If we qualify, we will have enough time to think about the WC, JM may even have a club then...so do not worry about the WC.

Here's my view:

We should add these four to the side that defeated Zambia:

Badu (if fit).
Kevin (if fit).
Muntari.
Vorsah (if fit).

Adding those four to Essien and Dede, we should be alright with a large margin of victory (4 or 5).

Can you tell me the reason why the 'not too well' KPB was called to swell up the number?

Can you tell me why A. Gyan, even though unfit was added to the number?

Can you also tell me whether all the callups were used in the Zambian game
and why?.

Unless you downplay our match with Egypt with the usual "In the name of Jesus" mantra, our ill-preparedness of this very match would invoke the doom's day on us.

I say this in support of Rocky and Olele's rumoured callups to the fold.
In that, they could be a part of the number, soldiers fighting to liberate us from the Egyptian tyranny.

And just like KPB, the coach might not use them. They are there as an 'insurance policy' redeemable only in the event we show symptons of death or dying, these indomitable and experienced guys could come in to resucitate us so we can wake up in a Brazil locker room instead of Korlebu motuary.

As for Mensah old age has caught up with him and he is very slow. Arab teams are very fast to the ball and you need young and strong defenders to match. Mensah is not the solution.

Vorsah with either young Mensah or Boye will do. Akaminko can also be brought back.

Relying on call-in players does not help in building a formidable team for tough compétitions.Don't depend on names but rather be serious in geting the best out of what you have already enlisted.One of the duties of a Coach is to TRAIN but not to SEARCH for players.Wake up Akwasi for, it seems the task is not even half done.

Now after playing all the minnows with third division English Players and clubless players and I think Oil field players, he was the toast of the tribal bigots- who have not even kicked a ball in their backyard before telling him to fire Dede and co. Now the chicken is coming home to roost and Akwasi knows his limit hence the SOS for old duades. The Ghana gov't must intervene as a matter of National Security and give the Team to Odenke and Willie Klutse right now to call real footballers playing big time soccer. You are one Coach who have called more players than any coach in Ghana history, (I speculate) so out of that pool could you not find a starting line up of healthy 100%, starting central full backs both locally and overseas who can protect your goalie? You have Jonathan Mensah, Rashid Sumaila, Vorsah, Awal Mohamed,Daniel Boateng, John Boye or call U20 star Lawrence Laryea.

John Mensah is one of the most capped players on the Black Stars. if you must call and use him, make sure he meets your own fitness tests and standards and pair him up with a speedy co-central defender and also the two outside full backs must be incredibly fast. He is solid in the back and is very intelligent and can read the game well and has excellent anticipation but is very slow on the recovery.

He should be included in the provisional squad but if he does not meet the fitness test he must be excused.
