ATSU, HO; Is the following quote factual?
“Dr. Bawumia and the NPP left office when inflation was 18%, but the NDC brought it down to 8.2% in 27 months. How then can he say the NDC has mismanaged the economy when in 2007 under his watch as Deputy Governor in charge of monetary policy at the Bank of Ghana, the cedi slumped significantly against the dollar from 92 Pesewas a dollar to GHc1.20 a dollar?”
So if it is factual then what business does Bawumia has to criticize if he had no solution when he was "there".

Fix our economy? I suggest, that one of the ways our country's economy can be fixed is to reduce the fat salaries and benefits of the parliamentarians and the miinisters and even that of the president. If the government is bold enough to do this there will be relatively enough money to pump into other public utilities and sectors for the good of all. For now, it's only the poor who sacrifice but the politicians are not sacrificing anything. Worse of all MPs now threaten to go on strick if they do not receive all their benefits including health allowances! How many Ghanaian workers have access to all these benefits they are talking about! How many Ghanaians workers have access to free petrol, free health care, free accommodation and travelling allowance s in addition to their salary? They are advocating taking away teachers' training college allowances and that of nursing training colleges, whey not the benefits of the MPs and Ministers including that of the president? Wake up fellow citizens! We should we die hard for politicians irrespective of which party they belong? Are we going to be fooled forever?

Offer alternative best solutions when criticizing. It is not intellectually expedient to just criticize...any fool can do that. Nation building does not only come from the government in power. The opposition can offer parallel solutions, alternatives and cogent suggestions.
In Ghana the opposition sees what is wrong with governance only when they are in opposition and criticize loudly, but these same politicians, when in power become oblivious to all the things they complained about when they were in opposition. This goes for NDC, NPP, CPP and all the political parties in Ghana.

The usual propaganda is to blame everyone else apart from them who are in power. The Courts of the land have concluded that this government and its leaders have turned into a planning, looting and sharing brigade; you cannot blame any other party for your lack of professionalism and inability to deliver your promises. Shame on the propagandists. Bawumiah is not in power so why ask him for solutions? You deliver solutions and put his arguments to shame if he has no grounds of criticising the government.

When will the ruling government stop the blame-game and focus on policies to address the economic doldrums?
It's just too sickening to hear and read about the government functionaries every now and then apportioning blame here and there for the economic troubles facing the country. You are in government for such reasons as this; to make things better and NOT to bemoan the perceived failings of preceding government or political opponents! You don't fix the economy and alleviate the suffering of millions of Ghanaians and when your term in office comes to an end and barring any political maneuvering, the nation would boot you out of office for abysmal performance!

It is completely absurd and grossly unintelligent on the part of Raymond Tandoh and the NDC for that matter, at this point in time in Ghana's dev't to suggest that, Dr. Bawumia is the cause of Ghana's economic woes. First, Ghana in 2000, was HIPC. The country was broke, completely dead as a result of 20 years of P(NDC) mismanagement, incompetence, ineptitude and the lack of the mental capacity to turn the fortunes of the country around and that was in 2000. Within a period of 8 years, the NPP gov't took Ghana through a whirlwind of economic activity, well thought through programs, policies and reforms, buttressed by sound, logical, tried and tested solutions, with practical and determined, focused leadership to move Ghana with an economy in the pits to a lower middle income economy, within a relatively short time span of just 8 years, when the IMF/World bank projections were looking at this growth being actualized in 2015. The then gov't of the day, catapulted the economic quagmire in which Ghana found itself with inflation hovering around 50% to 18%, all in the midst of the global financial meltdown of the 2007-2008 fiscal year. And even with that, the NPP gov't showed an uncanny ability and knack for steering the economic activity of the country upwards of north, growing the economy by about 8.5%, with the able ability of a very strong team of which Dr. Bawumia was an integral part. The facts still remains that, indeed, the NPP with their acute mental focus and Bawumia's experiences of turning the economic fortunes of other countries around based on sound, pragmatic and strong fiscal discipline as well as a profound understanding and ability to appreciate the issues together with the then Governor of the BOG, Dr. Acquah, created a ballooning and blossoming economy, for which all Ghanaians were proud off, and that is a fact. Raymond Tandoh's demands on M. Bawumia even if acceded to, cannot turn the fortunes of the country around, because the managers of the economy are at best brain dead. You don't put the likes of Fifi Fiavi Kwetey who doesn't have any clue about how to manage a simple kiosk at the MOFEP and expect the economy to grow. We cannot have a Vice President and a head of the Economic management team, who presided over the era when Ghana was shafted and pushed into HIPC by the P(NDC) team and expect, such a team to be able to appreciate solutions that are proffered to stimulate and grow the economy and put the fundamentals on the right footing. Ghana is experiencing the rot as result a number of factors notable amongst them, being a huge intellectual deficit in the present administration, ineptitude, markedly high levels of incompetence, thievery of legendary proportions and a gov't that would rather invest in their pocket than in the needed and required infrastructure to grow the economy. Ghana's debt stock at the moment is higher than all gov'ts combined from 1957-2008, with absolutely nothing to show for it. Unemployment is through the roof, interest rates are so astronomical that it just doesn't make sense to borrow, businesses are collapsing, the business environment is at best stagnant, statutory obligations to a number of funds are not being made, contractors are unable to work, public sector employees are up in arms against gov't for wage disparities, gov't is not even able to meet the requirements of academia to fund their research and book allowance and such a gov't still wants to remain competitive in a intellectual driven globalized world. The NDC gov't has no clue about governance and Raymond Tandoh and his comrades should spare Ghanaians their dimwittedness and think through the problems and find the necessary solutions to it.

WHEN NPP LEFT OFFICE THE COUNTRY'S DEBT WAS GHC8.9 BILLION AND NOW IT IS GHC43.4 BILLION. THE DEBT OF THE COUNTRY IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT AND NOT THE INFLATION. WITH ALL THE DEBT ACCUMULATED THERE IS NOTHING TO SHOW FOR. NDC SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL THE COUNTRY HOW WE GOT TO THIS HUGE DEBT OVER VERY FEW YEARS AND WHAT DID THEY USE THE MONEY FOR. THAT IS WHAT MR. TANDDOH SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON. HOW CAN NDC GOVT BENN TRYUING TO RIGHT THE WRONGS OF NPP GOVT. IF THAT IS LOGICAL THEN OUT DEBT SHOULD BE GOING DOWN AND NOT UP. NDC DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS DOING AND MUST ACCEPT IT. THEY ARE USING FOLKS WHO HAVE NO CLUE TO RUN THE COUNTRY AND THE HARDSHIP IT GETTING TOO MUCH FOR THE ORDINARY GHANAIAN. DO NOT BLAME YOUR ABYSMAL PERFORMANCE ON THE PAST GOVT BECAUSE NDC HAS BEEN IN POWER SINCE 2009, THAT IS ALMOST FIVE GOOD YEARS.

Data from the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Ghana has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has added a whopping GH¢15.6 billion to Ghana’s total public debt stock since being sworn into office as caretaker and substantive President within the period from July 2012 to August 2013.
The Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Ghana yesterday revealed that Ghana’s total public debt stock “increased to GH¢43.9 billion (49.5% of GDP) at end of August 2013, from GH¢35.1 billion in December 2012.”
“Of this, the domestic component amounted to GH¢24 billion compared to GH¢18.5 billion in December 2012. External debt stood at US$10.2 billion, up from US$8.8 billion in December 2012,” a report by the committee explained.
However, checks made by the New Statesman further revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is responsible for contracting one-third of Ghana’s total debt stock.
According to the MPC report of September 2012, “The total public debt at the end of July 2012 was GH¢28.3 billion, equivalent to 44.4 per cent of GDP.”
This implies that President John Mahama has contracted a total of GH¢15.6 billion of debt for Ghanaians since becoming the President of Ghana.
Many people have wondered what the impact of these huge loans has been on the lives of Ghanaians, considering the continued labour agitations that have taken place over the last year, the arrears owed to contractors, GETFund, NHIS and other statutory funds.
Ghana’s total debt stock of GH¢43.9 billion means that every Ghanaian, down to a newly born baby, owes a total of GH¢1,688.42.
The increase in the domestic debt component of the total debt stock from GH¢13.7 billion at the end of July 2012 to GH¢24 billion under the Presidency of John Mahama lends credence to the statements made by the economic team of the New Patriotic Party to the effect that the NDC government is competing with the private sector for funds.
Analysts explain that what this means is that government has been competing with and squeezing out private enterprise from borrowing from the banks. Thus, private enterprises cannot access capital to grow their business in order to employ the youth.
Yesterday’s MPC report further stated that total revenue and grants amounted to GH¢10.4 billion, lower than the target of GH¢12.5 billion, mainly as a result of shortfalls in domestic revenue collections and low disbursement of grants.
Of this outturn, domestic revenue totalled GH¢9.8 billion, below the target of GH¢11.6 billion. Total tax revenue amounted to GH¢7.7 billion, lower than the target of GH¢9.1 billion. Grant disbursements were GH¢542 million, falling short of its target by 41.7 percent. Non-tax revenues amounting to GH¢2.1 billion for the period also missed the target by 12.4 per cent.
Total expenditure including clearance of arrears and outstanding commitments amounted to GH¢16.0 billion, lower than the budget target of GH¢17.5 billion.
“The above developments resulted in a fiscal deficit (cash basis) equivalent to 6.3 percent of GDP against a target of 5.6 percent. The deficit was financed mainly from domestic sources, resulting in a Net Domestic Financing (NDF) of GH¢4.4 billion, higher than the budget target of GH¢3.6 billion. Foreign financing of the budget amounted to GH¢1.3 billion, marginally lower than the GH¢1.5 billion target. Financing from Bank of Ghana amounted to GH¢1.0 billion, equivalent to 4.9 percent of projected revenue,” the MPC added.
