That is very good if only it would lead to increased revenue to be squandered by our useless politicians.

  • The Dunce 10 years ago

    150% + 100% = 250% ?

That's why teacher put me in the corner with a pointed hat.

What sort of mathematics is that? How can water bill's 100% and light's 150% increase become 250%. At best, we can talk about 125% if a household's water and electricity bills are equal at the moment. Short of this, the incre ...

Government should rather pay off the bills owed by the ministries and the departments. when done there will be no need for these abnormal increases. Oh John Mahama what has Ghanaians done to you?

  • Mahamadu 10 years ago

10% increase in pay and 150% and 100% increase in tariffs.

    God will judge us all.

  • Fuseini 10 years ago

    You say.

  • Ken Ntiamoa 10 years ago

100% increase in water tariffs and 150% increase in electricity do not equate to a 250% increase in utility tariffs.

You are adding apples and oranges together.

I don’t think you understand what free market economy means? How many electric and water companies do we have in Ghana? That is the problem, there is no competition and the government has its hands in everything.

  • kwabena ohemeng,london 10 years ago

If competition can reduce utility prices for consumers in Ghana it is most welcome. However I doubt if this is always the case.Introducing interventions for the poor to help reduce the impact of the increases should also be c ...

  • The Dunce 10 years ago

Yes, let's. The increase is 2 divided by 11. Price increase equals 18.18%.

Nice to meet you, Ankonam. It was lonely in the corner.

  • Ankonam 10 years ago

    Sorry Mr Dunce (really??)

Percentage INCREASE means you have to divide by the ORIGINAL figure, i.e., 10 and not 11.

It is not lonely in the corner. Not at all.

  • The Dunce 10 years ago

My sincere apologies, Prof Ankoman, but I'm afraid you're still wrong. Indeed we must work with the ORIGINAL figure. But that is 1 cedi for kenkey and 10 for sardines. Original total = 11.

    Nice you can stay here!

  • Onipaba 10 years ago

Mr. Ankonam. According to my own limited mathematics, I'm afraid Mr. Dunce is right.

    Quit right.

  • The Dunce 10 years ago

Thanks, Onipaba. If only the Government Statistical crowd could sit in on this lesson.

  • Ankonam 10 years ago

    Dear Both:

I agree. The initial cost was 11 cedis, and the final cost was 13 cedis. Therefore the increase is (13-11/11)*100%. So you are right. I never claimed to be infallible.

Nonetheless, I am intrigued by your name ...
