I hope this man understands the consequences and effects of gold mining on the Nation and its people.
Consider the drought on our farm lands, the dryness of our water bodies, the destruction of our forestry, and the dirty poverty and the debilitating diseases mining leaves on our people. Ghanaians will be healthier and better off without mining.

DR.AUBYNN,Ghana needs SKILLED PROFESSIONAL IN GOLD & DIAMOND DESIGNING AND MANUFACTURING.
What have you been doing about that, since time immemorial,GOLD AND DIAMOND have been mined and taken for free,by foreigners?
WHAT IS YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO EDUCATING GHANAIAN CITIZENRY ON GOLD AND DIAMOND JEWELLERY PRODUCTION & DESIGNING,WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGICAL AND INNOVATIVE IDEAS,THAT COME WITH THE USE OF COMPUTER AIDED DESIGNING AND MANUFACTURING MACHINES?
You talk about taxes the government heaps on the miners, but do not talk about the huge profit made out of the naivety, unpatriotic attitude, and weakness in the whole governing system.
THE WHOLE MINING SYSTEM NEEDS A COMPLETE OVERHAUL.
I think,GHANA has to put a restriction on the amount of our RAW MATERIALS,that could be mined per year,by each mining company.
OUR NATURAL RESOURCES HAVE TO BE PROTECTED SERIOUSLY,IF WE HAVE OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE AT HEART.
I can hardly believe,GHANA,being the second in AFRICA and TENTH in the world, had not even a single school that teaches on GOLD AND DIAMOND PROCESSING/MANUFACTURING till just recently.
WHEN DID WE HAVE GOLD REFINERY?
Mr.AUBYNN,should bow in shame,on all his assertions, because,it only reveals his selfish aim in helping the foreign mining companies, but not the interest of the nation,at large.

Yes, Aubynn--Ghana should remain unattractiv for kinds like you and your mining friends. Govt. must change the contracts , force them to invest larger parts of their profits in Ghana If they do not agree, they could sell up and leave. We have already suffered for more than 50 years,so why should we not spend the next 10 years trainig our own people to do the mining at our own risk----- just like the Russians and Chinese did. Have you heard of any foreign firms dominating this kind of business in China ?

Our investment attraction is not limited to the mining sector but in all areas. We squeeze every little dime from both our local and foreign investors, thereby making Ghana unattractive to investors. Why is Ghana not experiencing quality investors with all the tooting about us being a shinning example of democratic governance in Africa. From land acquisition to our Ministries, everything is run by semi illiterates.

It is not as simple as that. The oil companies are also leaving Takoradi. They are relocating to Abidjan because of taxes. Note that Abidjan is closer to the rigs than Takoradi. The Mahama govt is lacking ideas

Government must look at sustainable mining practices to reduce forest degradation and the likes. You need to be in the mining environment to properly understand mining.Investors have directed the attention to Mali and Burkina and we need to dialogue with stakeholders on matters affecting the mineral industry. isn't it frustrating to see that we still lack behind countries who are still branded 'undemocratic' regimes in Africa, yet they are attracting good investments. Ghana lacks behind autocratic countries like Cameroon in attracting real investors. Our problem is corruption at our ports, having semi illiterates drafting our investment laws and a whole lot of self damaged laws that don't help. All over the world, there is abundance of natural resource like gold, diamond etc. An investor will ask the basic question why she/he will have to invest in country A or B. Ghana needs to sit up. Mediocrity is killing us.
