Indeed, our MPs are very ignorant people! They even get money from govt depts in order to approve their budgets, we learned, so how much more foreign mining coys known for bribing govt officials? But that goes for the officials of the Executive who are putting such deleterious agreements before them to approve. They must be blamed most for letting Ghanaians down. Ghana, of course, is a society of ignorant people. That is one of the attributes that makes us an LDC, btw. Lack of knowledge (ignorance) and superstition form one of the cogs in the vicious cycle of backwardness and underdevt.
Those of us with some inside info about what those we negotiate with think about us know that they often express remorse and sadness for us, for the poor quality of those sent to negotiate with them. Even some Ghanaians who interact with them when they came abroad to negotiate express dismay at what they don't know or their viewpoints.
At the moment, my own snr. brother Solomon Kwawukume, has been campaigning against the oil agreements signed and the new bill cos Ghana had already lost billions thanks to the status quo in place. He has written a book on the subject spelling out the issues besides several articles one can easily read from the Internet. He has been quoted in foreign papers and discussed in one lecture room here in London and everyone agreed that he was right. But, the so-called elite in Ghana and in govt hardly understand the issues at stake, not to mention the masses! Just spoke to him and he is at an event at KNUST, where he is also presenting a paper.

If 100% is brought back to Ghana, it will be used to pay external loans and creditors anyway. The only added advantage is the increase in banking ratio. However, if the funds are brought back to Ghana through BOG, they will be translated into Cedis enhancing FX position. We should not forget that external loans used for the mines are from foriegn banks and have to be serviced from the gold proceeds in $ and also lots of parts and reagents used for the gold processing are all imported and have to be paid for in $.
We have to look at enhancing the capacity of Ghanaian banks and also make our Stock Market vibrant so that funds can be raised in Ghana by Ghanaians to run some of these mines
