When oppostion parties take sensitve positions, that exactly is power sharing, nothing less. In some cases as in Zimbabwe, the opposition even took the position of Prime Minister, yet the corruption the country was still deep in corruption. What K.B Asante is saying is that there should be an alternative Govt in waiting and checking the corrupt practices of any incumbent Govt. That at least can reduce corruption. If everyone is in polical office, the vanguard role of opposition is lost. Unless the opposition themselves are too eager to join in the looting, damn the consequences. KB Asante is very right on this one. We might as well then go in for a one party state.

A wise thought indeed about power sharing likely to result in "sharing of corruption". It has the negative potential to foster "group think" as they retreat into an "echo chamber" where lack of accountability is ignored just to get along. Power sharing idea is not new and has been used to defuse politically motivated mayhem and violence but the resulting truce is usually unsustainable. The assumption that a national power sharing government will bring peace is a false one. Not valid !
What concerns me is this notion propagated in the media by the Ghanaian elite that the country is headed towards some crisis of dire consequence due to the SC petition. If we all agree that the EC electoral processes and systems gave a false positive in the declaration of results why don't we work to fix the system and go to polls again? In the interim a council made up of the other two branches of government (Parliament and Judiciary) can ran the affairs of the country until Ghanaians choose who are to run their affairs for the future? It will give us time for the council to cleans things up and strengthen our accountability institutions and laws. The contending Illegal political galamey" clubs ( Parties) will also have time to cool down and retake their vision for the country to the citizens again.
An "inclusive government" would be better than "power sharing government. A democracy must have a vibrant and passionate competition of ideas from groups that want to handle or govern the affairs of its citizens. We need accountability and probity to check corruption and abuse of powers of government by individuals we give the privilege to manage our affairs.
On a humorous note, power sharing situation is akin to what a dying father told her daughters. That marrying a polygamist is like burying your passion for the institution of marriage where you numb your senses just to keep things going (peaceful coexistsnce). Power sharing can create an environment where a bunch rascals will have control of our institutions of governance and will use it to enrich themselves without accountability or probity.
Inclusive governance is a better choice in our infant democracy.

Any how the purposes, experiences and outcomes of unity governments cannot be explained away so simply and cheaply. The concept needs to be explored in its entirety and an evidence-based argument put forward for or against it, rather than radio or TV comments off the cuff.

One of Obama's first moves was to retain Robert Gates (R) as Defense Secretary. Then his appointment of Chuck Hagel (R) was also welcomed by all; and nobody ever labeled the Obama govt a Union one.
Wouldn't it be better if the current govt could calmly engage ABLE and COMPETENT ministers from without the NDC? Of course this would understandably be fought from within the party by fanatics; whilst, on the other hand, you can never trust a member of the "other" party in Ghana. PATHETIC!
But why rephrase the man's call to mean "union govt, unity govt., etc." and diss him? Give the dog a bad name and hang it!

It is about time the history of Ghana be told as it is. The woes of Ghana's instability in governments stems from that kwame nkrumah.
This is a guy who after JB Dankwah and his noble group had fought for Ghana's independence, called him (nkrumah) to come and help, handed him the administration of all documents (gen. sec. of UGCC)Was he not kwame nkrumah who leaked a cabinet decision to street boys that JB and others still want the Whites to govern with us because there were not "enough" competent people to fill the vacuum the white would create should they be forced to leave the country? Houphoy Boigney bought same strategy and ruled with the French which saw the flourish of Ivory Coast during his reign. Ask kb asante himself if nkrumah did not confess his actions as a biggest mistake he did after he saw his dynamo crumbling? My father was taught by kwame himself at the ideological institute so i know what i am talking about. At a point kwame confessed that the best brains that could help move the country forward were all at the opposite side. He threw sand into the eyes of the masses mostly illitrates that he fathomed the independence whilst independence was won in 1940s. Where was he? washing plates in restaurants abroad.
He started to be a president forever, a stupid example that idiot Mugabe who also studied in legon, Ghana is adopting in Zimbabwe. Thanks to the galantry efforts by our national heroes; kotoka, ankra, afrifa, harry, ocran and many, we are now enjoying democracy.
The evil that kwame nkruma sowed is what we are reaping through his followers. Tribalism was first played by nkruma, using the rest of the tribes against akans; if not, how could mahama meet the chiefs of guans and tell them to take their positions as the first people to come to modern Ghana, what was his aim for saying that, has he ever met all akan chiefs?
PNDC came to power because these good for nothing covetous people saw they were going to lose power looking at the abysmal performance of limann at that time, being sabotaged by his own party not to be open but stick to their evil ways laid down by kwame nkrumah. So to your knowledge as readres, CPP youth wing, "tete young pioneers" which rawlings was one, agreed with Limann to allow them clean the party and they will bring him back as they did in the '79 election which through ways and means gave Limann the power. How could rawling stage coup and overthrew CPP government and ruled with CPP loyalist? They wish they can do same this around but "adabraka!!"
nkrumah saw his end coming and tried his life time presidency; acheampong, an nkrumah loyalist saw his end coming and also opted for unigov and now these useless ones have also seen their end coming and want unigov? Lailai!!! More to come until the truth is unearthed.

What is power sharing anyway? Why the clamor at this time? Isn't it suicidal for any person to appoint someone he does not share any ideological philosophy with?
The constitution created the problem of winner takes all. The constitution vested so much power in the President and centralized government, and the politicians that have had the opportunity to operate it have fed fat on that concept.
If after twenty years of this distention, we have no viable, effective local government system, then we have a big problem. Civil servants have made sure the decentralization doesn't take root so they can manipulate government and feed fat on the broken system.
For a start, let's all agree that we need all to participate in the governance of the country at all levels. Since it will be difficult to have a party give positions to the opposition, the reasonable way forward is to liberate the crippling effect of the constitution.
Regional Administration, District and Municipal Administrations must be defined by an act of legislation. This must specify the extent of what they can do without need to resort to the central government and central Parliament. This must go with the fair distribution of the national cake to the regions and the Districts and Municipalities.
I propose, complete decentralization of the Ministries of EDUCATION,HEALTH, WORKS AND HOUSING, AGRICULTURE, as well as agencies as, ELECTRICITY, WATER, POLICE SERVICE, TRANSPORT to the regions and DIstricts. Central government must make the overall policy and regions and districts can add to their peculiarity. Police set up that is community based is always more effective, in policing, because they are part of the community and understand the community and knows who are in the community. The wastage in water and electricity supply will be curtailed when Regions and Districts control the distribution.
We can the make Regional Ministerial and District Secretarial Positions an ELECTIVE POSITION? In this way different parties will be represented. This will bring some kind of "competition" for excellence for the greater good of the population. So that if you think where you live is not performing, you have the opportunity to relocate to other region or district.
The President will have no strangle hold on Regional Ministers and District Chief executives, who would only be accountable to the people that elected them. Electing Regional Ministers and DCE/MCEs will further strengthened the politics and the democratic process locally, and bring the best out of people. It will reduce the national acrimony or at least shift it locally. It will also bring more people into the process.
