Upon the death of the late Atta Mills, many a Ghanaian was wishing that an autopsy report would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death of the President since Ghanaians were made to believe that the late President was in very good health and even jogged on the tarmac at KIA upon returning from a medical check up abroad to prove to all and sundry that, indeed, he was well.
Then Ghanaians were hit with the news of his sudden demise with rumours circulating in some quarters that, he was done in by unseen hands and forces with a very strong stake on the Presidency from within the NDC party and the rest they say, is history.
It is quite ironic that, he's being quoted and portrayed as a peace loving person by elements who have shown time and again that, they would rather the masses tow the line of peace but neglect that aspect that has to do with justice and accountable and transparent governance. It's equally intriguing that, these same elements who initially shouted well meaning Ghanaians down that, they didn't have any case with respect to the election petition are saying that, it could go either way. We pray that, our most esteemed Justices would adjudicate on this matter freely, firmly and fairly to ensure that, Ghana moves forward, to ensure that, Ghana is not mortgaged to the strong and mighty, who through officially sanctioned pillaging of the national purse, buy their way into power against the express wishes of the masses.

The entire NPP charade is a sick joke, but for the fact that the precedent does NOT bode well for our Democracy. Here are the reasons why:

1) What is the threshold to challenge an electoral outcome? NPP took ruthless advantage of the fact that the Constitution and our electoral laws are SILENT on how close an election result should be before the results warrant challenge. In many advanced Democracies, recount laws and challenges only kick in when the difference between 2 candidates is less than o.5%.

So that silence in our constitution meant that results that all parties including election observers agreed to at the time of their announcement in December suddenly get hijacked by anybody sowing mischief. NPP bastardized the spirit of our Constitution in the name of rank politics. Shameful!!!

2) That the Supreme Court became the arbiter of the case regardless of what their ruling will be, is too reminiscent of how the US Supreme Court subverted American Democracy in 2000 to rob Al Gore of the Presidency, simply because of the ideological make up of the court. Our own judiciary is not immune to that type of political activism.

More importantly it places the word of the Courts above the WILL of the VOTER. And that is wrong. Do we not trust our own Democratic process that we must turn to the courts like toddlers even when the outcome of the election was fair and clear?

3) Bad Precedent is being set. NPP have more than admitted that had they not filed the petition, their party would have collapsed because of demoralized supporters. Think about that! They ABUSED the legal process for purely partisan interests that have nothing to do with the larger polity.

Case in point. That we went from the public dismissal (including the Peace Council)of the seriousness of NPP threats to challenge the election results, because nobody believed the merits of their claim, to ruthles success in poisoning the sentiment of the public in just 7 months, is tragic indeed.

It is SHAMEFUL that a bona fide elected President should have his presidency clouded by ginned up accusations for no other reason than the wanton greed of a loser candidate is SICK, SICK SICK! And in this regard the NPP are EXACTLY like their Republican Party counterparts in the US whose rabid extremism relentlessly does everything to delegitimize Pres Obama's Presidency. The
Talibanesque tactics are exactly the same, so venal it's unbelievable.

What a lazy president. You've got a lot to do at home for this short period of your presidency. Therefore that strategy of going to hide from home and pursue lobbying our judges from outside Ghana will not work.
We are going to ask GCHQ at Oxfordshire to monitor all telephone calls coming into Ghana to our judges.
