For the only one year stay in Ghana in my adult life, I was stopped by the traffic police on monthly basis more than the rest of my 30 years abroad driving. I paid so much in bribes for not even contravening any traffic rules or my journey came to a halt. I wanted to start a farm, but the cost incurred at the port including bribes and the bribes for towing equipment’s even legally was so much that I had to park up and leave the country.

First, collective punishment is unlawful. Second, it appears the IGP is acting on rumors, allegations or suspicion and there is no indication that any allegations have been proven through investigation or anyone caught in the act of collecting bribe/s. What is therefore the basis of IGP's instructions for the mass transfer?
In fact, if it is true that the officers involved are corrupt and have in deed been collecting bribes, then they should be dismissed and prosecuted. Transferring them sends the wrong message because it's a kind of reward which will not stop them from collecting bribes at their posts. The IGP is only transferring the problem and not dealing with it effectively. This will not stop or even reduce corruption within the MTU and the police in general.
The proper action is to follow due process by conducting investigations and those found guilty dismissed and prosecuted. The rest who are innocent could be retained but could be transferred.

All this man care about is power cus why should u still be working at age sixty in Ghana. Atta mills did not appoint this man because he wasn't fit to lead the police and with his CV, he's not considered as a police man cuz he has no ground police experience but rather a dsk officer so how do we expect him to understand what's going on. He's just a media man that wants to be heard and seen all the time. Fire burn this igp. He should rather be sacked. Thank you

Collecting monies from drivers by MTTU officials is nationwide. Its like AIDS infection they carry it to wherever they go. Even Hon Collins Dauda could no escape, he paid GH¢50 on the Obuasi - Kumasi.
Kobby told us the speed guns the MTTU use are not accurate yet we did not hear anything from the Police administration.
To Curb it the IGP must:
1. occasionally conduct searches on MTTU officials coming after motor checks.
2. Disguise himself and travel from Accra to Kumasi or board a taxi/trotro by 6.00am and pass through where his men conduct such checks.
3. STOP his men from using their private cars to do such exercises. If a policeman can buy petrol, maintain and DO govt work then you know how dear motor check is dear to the heart of the ploice(wo)man.
I know police friend who put on his uniform, take few A4 sheets in hand and storm the road whenever a masom working on his building project come s for money. Just 1 hour he has money to buy enough cement for the day.
One Saturday when we were cashless but wanted to attend an important funeral in his hometown, he asked to wait for him in house. He got in his black & black (not the funeral cloth) and went on the road alone. Less than 2 hours he returned and we went to the funeral and had enough to boooze thereafter.

This is a start if this man means business. The police service as a whole is the biggest cancer eating at the nation. Vested interests in high and low places will conspire to emasculate this man's efforts. The answer is a complete change of personnel and a one- strike -you -are -out type of program. The roadblocks must be discontinued but no laxity in flushing out and dealing with the gunrunners, drug peddlers and the criminals for whom these road blocks are mounted. Of course the police service must be well paid for the hard and dangerous work they should be doing. If there is no change, the police service will in the end pose a physical threat to the country and government.

THIS IS EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP. THE ACTION OF THE IGP IS LAUDABLE AND I APPLAUD THE ACTION AND PRAY THAT IT DOESN'T BECOME A MERE SMOKE-SCREEN FOR FURTHER POLICE CORRUPTION.
THIS EXCERCISE MUST BE ON-GOING 7/11 AND ALL-YEAR ROUND. IF POLICE CORRUPTION IS ARRESTED WE CAN DO SO WITH OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC OFFICE CORRUPTION.
HOW CAN A CORRUPT POLICE BE CHARGED WITH ARRESTING CORRUPT OFFICIAL? OUR JUDGES, CUSTOMS OFFICERS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND POLITICIANS HAVE ALL BECOME STINKY CORRUPT AND BLAME THE PRESIDENT FOR EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG IN THE COUTRY.
YES, THE PRESIDENT SHOULD BE BLAMED FOR LACK OF LEADERSHIP TO DEAL AND/OR ARREST CORRUPT OFFICIALS, POLICE OFFICERS, SENIOR CUSTOMS OFFICERS,AND OTHERS WHO MISUSE PUBLIC PROPERTY FOR THEIR SELFISH INTERESTS.

I would like to suggest humbly to IGP that, the MTTU be dissolved and replaced by the new system-spot fines with a new name:PATROL POLICE with a single MOTTO: PAY UR SPOT FINE WITHIN 3 DAYS IN GOVERNMENT SINGLE ACCOUNT OR GO TO COURT AND CONTEST IT WITH POLICE.The lowest fine should be GH20.00 to SAY GH1,000.00. JUMPING traffic light, NO STOPING, NO PARKING, OVER LOADING,ETC should attract GH20, something like that, but if such offences were commited 3times within a week, lincence withdrawn for one year. This means that Police must track those offending drivers in the first place. Some other felonies/crimes must attract no fine but courts. eg careless driving resulting in death, etc, something like this might help. WARNING: The police must arrest POLITICIANS as well because they have a lot of money to pay than the common driver and THEY MUST NOT HEED TO ANY CALLS FROM THEM. The Police must just apply the laws. IGP, IS IT TOO MUCH FOR U AND COULD NOT BE ACHIEVED? LETS DO SOMETHING TO HELP OURSELVES. THANK YOU.

a journey of a rhousand miles begins with the first step. Whether the IGP was corrupt himself or not, he has been given a mandate and he would do as he deems fit. The MTU and CID are the police outfits that interfaces with the public alot. The MTU particularly is the unit that carries corrupt pratices in broad day light and in public view with digraceful impunity. In any case an IGP has the right under the Police Service Act to do a mass transfer of policemen to enhance effectiveness, efficiency and professionalism. All those crying foul are either relations of the affected personnel or are indirectly beniffing from their corrupt practices.. Even if the IGP is due for retirement, he can be given a contractby Govt to continue. So all those trying hard to put impediments in the way of the current Police Administration in its efforts to deal decisively with corrupt practices should know that there is an equal number of Ghanaians ready to defend good policies.

Are they sacked or transfered? This foolish IGP should know that he is not different from those men. He has also taken bribes before he ascended to that position.
ahhh mr. bruk how can you speak this way, do you want to tell me that we don't have to put some things behind us and start all over again, even if he has done this before he is now a new man, let us move on. we love Ghana
He cannot just sack 30 people without any investigation. At least they deserve suspension first, a hearing before a final decision.
The transfer is normal but still with due notice.
Sununu, here comes prosecution, prepare for doom.
