If what the NPP is saying is true, especially regarding government's borrowing, then the following news posted on this site some two years back makes an interesting reading; because as I read the item Ikept asking myself if borrowing was a good thing at all for one to take pride in, and in the fact that he has the capacity to do so?:

Ghana has space to borrow more, Veep responds to Akufo-Addo
Vice President John Dramani Mahama has in a veiled manner, responded to criticism from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo criticism of the Mills-Mahama government’s contraction of loans.
Delivering the maiden Liberty Lectures organized by think tank Danquah Institute on Thursday August 30, Nana Akufo-Addo criticized government for contracting over 10 billion dollars of loans in a “mad rush” just two years after assuming office but with nothing to show for those loans.
He said the loans risk plummeting Ghana into deep financial crisis. According to Nana Akufo-Addo, “at the end of 2008 Ghana’s domestic debt stood at 4.8 billion cedis equivalent to $3.3 billion.
“According to the Bank of Ghana, at the end of June 2011, Ghana’s total domestic debt was 10.8 billion cedis, showing an increase of 30 per cent over the previous six months alone and this was before the recent bond issue of 300 million cedis at 14 percent interest rate”.
However, in a veiled response a day later, Vice President John Mahama, who addressed executives of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship in Accra, said Ghana has enough room for more debt without falling into a debt trap.
Vice President John Mahama warned that politicians and leaders must refrain from playing politics with Ghana’s economy since it always comes back to haunt the country.
“We must not play politics with our economy because when we do so it always comes back to haunt us. We currently have a balance sheet that makes Ghana attractive to creditors. Recently Ghana has been offered credits for infrastructure developments in the productive sectors of the economy.
“Some sections of the public have expressed fear of Ghana incurring too much debt and yet these sections know that in order to transform Ghana to the next level we cannot sit and just rely on the budgetary revenues to finance critical investments.
“I wish to assure the business community on behalf of the President that Ghana still has enough space to absorb credit without falling back into the debt trap”.

In fact, the SC is really wasting time that is why this crooks think they still stand a chance, where on earth have you seen SC removing democratically elected president and putting in a 70 years old drug baron, greedy and arrogant man as president? You have been found out and God will punish you for wasting Ghanaian tax-payers money. Npp is now for dogs, especially with people like sir john in the helm of affairs of the party. Npp will soon die and a new party formed in its place.

Yaw, it may be true that NPP is talking down the economy and that is what all oppositions do. However, the fact is that, Ghana's economy is weak due to both factors outside Ghana and the government's inability to resolve the energy and water problems. Even if businesses have access to credit, with lack of regular supplies of energy and water, how could they increase production and create jobs?
Again, the election over spending by government and the government's inability to pay its bills are worsen by lack of internally generated revenue is worrying and even disgraceful. For example, the non-payment of allowances and fees of Ghanaian students abroad is a national disgrace.
Another problem is the announcement of projects and initiatives that have not been budgeted. For example, it is reported today that a Centre for Research to named after the late President Mills is to be built in Cape Coast. It is a good idea but where is the money coming from?
Last but not the least, when the President gave a lecture at Chatham House in May, I was shocked when in an answer to a question, he said that the software used in implementing the Single Spine Salary did not enable them to envisage the impact of the policy on government revenue and expenditure. That really shocked me. That should have been forecasted by Economists for at least, the next five years.
I know this politics but one cannot hide the fact that the government is finding it difficult to meet its financial commitments due to low revenues from taxes and perhaps, corruption. These are not the making of NPP, Are they?

Google "Ghana's GDP", and every fact stares in your face as vivid as daylight that the CPP and P/NDC and their little brothers of NRC/ AFRC/PNP are poor at economic management. They add nothing to growth except taking and taking and taking for their poor souls.
These groups come from the Nkrumaists socialists revolutionaries of Ghana's left-wing brigade as constituted in the present government. They have been ruling Ghana all these years since we assumed self government in 1951. Together they have ruled for almost 50 years...They come in different colours and shades, all united by their avowed determined opposition to DOMO/UP/Progress/NPP group they label as 'Matemoho'.
Of course they are masters in winning political power with their deft strategies of bribing loud mouthed lazy people in local communities to hood wink masses with their lies and innuendoes! BUT their covetousness for political power, either crook or whatever means, is for their personal advancement and promotion of business interests of their cronies. That is the whole reason they do politics: Winning contracts, commissions, scholarships, positions, appointments and jobs for the boys as they wallow in government properties and personalise state assets including cars, bungalows, monies and not paying utility bills. Politics has remained so good for these lazy loafers in Ghana politics...They come into politics as broke as church mice but leave it with Billions as Ayeh Kumi and B A Dadson in CPP, and Ato Ahwoi and ET Mensah in NDC. A list of politicians in these identified groups and their properties gained in government will make you weep blood.
Economics is the last thing these loafers think about. And they do not have a clue, because they have never earned monies outside politics. In fact there is no one in their group who know how to handle economics of a developing country. Their main architects of Joe Abbey, P V Obeng, Duffuor, Tekper, Atta Mills, Ahwoi are masters of Economic bankruptcy. Nothing good is in their big heads except how to use political power for selfish economic gains for their families and friends. Politics is so good to them for what they can get from political power...Seek ye first the political kingdom and everything else will be yours - they cry out aloud!
Just google Ghana's GDP and see when the Graph began to rise.
Ghana's economy will surely go comatose so that in future all these Chiefs and Imams will stop collecting free cars and monies from corrupt governments in exchange of political power. A most corrupt government of Ghana are these people in power and give them thousand years in power, we would only end up with building more cemetaries and emigration. What a sad state of affairs, these socialist revolutionaries! NDC Fiaffitor!

The solution is for executive powers of ministers and politicians to be curbed and distributed to the people through governmental and regional bodies who will be accountable to successful projects.
