Governance is not to be at the throats(hardship) of the people.It seems leaders in Ghana do not have the economic wherewithal(plans) either than increase,increase,increase everywhere all in the name of revenue generation.Please let us study and adopt the common Sense economic approach of the white man.And have the simple common sense to ignore some of the world bank and imf bitter economic prescriptions, which does us no good at the end of the day.Eg: Take money to sack or reduce your work fore we took the money to pay end of sevice entitlement to declare them redundant.Structure Adjustment,Divestiture,etc etc etc.
I'm not afraid to say that we should steer ourselves out of our economic stupidity and not to allow or follow such diabolical prescriptions simply because of grants and loans.Put your house in order to stop being a beggar.If the bird which flies the skies is

"GH¢6.4m irregularities in claims at NHIA" are not helpful. The minister must advise his boss to set up strong punitive measures against fraudulent manipulations by corrupt politicians and stop going around praising failures. The truth is : Ghana's economy is nosediving.

Ghana's biggest fiscal problem is neither revenue generation nor is it spending.Our biggest problem is "capacity to manage" effectively.Take for instance Zambia and Chile which both produce almost equal amounts of copper or Nigeria and UAE which produce 2m barrels of oil.They all make the same revenues from the int'l marketplace but yet zambia and Nigeria are poorer than the other two.What i'm trying to say is- its the fight in the dog and not the dog in the fight that matters.Unless Ghana works hard on capacity building in terms of managerial skills,professionalism and havin a work ethic it'll not matter how much mineral wealth or revenue generation is achieved by GRA because our investment decisions can make it all ineffective just like its been the last 57yrs.Thats why Singapore left us in the dust despite our earlier independence date.

This could kill investment confidence, hence stifle steady or increased productivity. I'm completely dumbfounded about this petition, which has been allowed to go as if there isn't any end to it. Can't Ghana learn from others about how they solved similar problems? Al Gore challenged George Bush's election victory at the supreme court. The quickness at which America dealt with the issue is proof of the right working of democracy. It also avoids any premature or silly accusations about the competence of members of the supreme court.

The lack of investment is due to too much taxation and no investor be it foreign or local will invest in such hostile environment.

If this tax and spend government remain for long, many businesses will wind up in the very near future. Remember that it is almost 2-3 years ago that United Airlines from America stopped their direct flight to Ghana and by early September, 2013, Virgin Atlantic will stop coming to Ghana. Who losses? Not these two giant Airlines but rather the Government of Ghana with its over taxation.

I know Seth and his main thinking is taxation without thinking of other alternative which will boost investment with job creation which eventually will cushion the government's taxes. E&OE.

Skains,it's worth it making that experience,even if it means the nation going broke due to the longevity of the proceedings,which I doubt.To your comparism with a similar issue in the States,I can only say that we are just at the begining of nursing our young democracy and it will take some time to get where such democratically fortified nations like the States are today.I really believe that the next time something like this crops up, we will be in the position, out of experience, to deal with it in a much quicker, better and effective manner. And so far as the investors are concerned, I think there's no reason for panic because any reasonable investor who has been following the developments on the African political scene can easily figure out that we are moving on politically so far as the quest towards more democracy is concerned - at least we did not go down the path of civil war as others did in the face of similar challenges. Just rest assured that we will get there- slowly but sure, and remember- Rome was not built in a day!!!!

The problem is theeconomy depends so much on imports for survival.Our productivity capacity as a country has diminished and the revenue generating sector like cocoa and gold has seen low prices this year. To kick start the economy get electricity functioning well for the informakleconomy in Ghana.No industrialist will invest in a country that has Water and electricity problems. We need policies that generate hard earned money in the country. Unfortuanetly the Pull him Down attitude we have does not favour the Ghanaian but rather people from other places to do business in Ghana and take all the money back home to their countries.Ghanaians will then have to struggle all over the world to bring the hard earned cash to Ghana.
