When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

Since before independence we have been plagued by all sorts of ruthless , vicious and willfully authoritative govts that all have one thing in common , denying the right of free speech and proper analysis of the motives and agendas they seek to keep hidden . Most of these govts were led by people who didnt belong to the majority but rather minority tribes and very marginal political clans . starting with nkrumah who is praised to high heaven but this same oligarchy , he st in motion a climate of fierce political antagonism whereby moderate minds of a liberal persuasion had no business in participating as only the radicals could stand the heat .The MOTIVE , be able to spend without consensus or agreement the wealth of the nation ie in today's jargon chop Ghana money some . This style and system of government was perfected by kwasea rawlings and today we have pepeni whose agenda is finalse the colonization of the majority , the Akans with the assistance of the homicidal ayigbe and the idiot pepefuo . they now use the institution called the supreme court to gag all free thinking individuals so the climate is set to enslave and now steal the oil and gas. they tell us nkrumah was so good so i say to them we hope ghana breaks up and their first presidents are just like him. when we secede we give them all the gold reserves in Switzerland and pay them another 20 billion on top so these ewes and pepefuo are rich and let their nkrumah come and spend that money in 2 years and leave them in debt for 2000 years , that is our revenge . hopefully their first nkrumah presidents are just as manipulative and propagandists so a greater part of that money is used to secure the unity of the universe as thats a very good thing not only african or nigger unity . the rest of the money we graciously leave them should be used in establishing useless unsustainable businesses that only feed other economies and drain their own . yes we wish them well as they have to us for over 60 years . we in the meantime Akans will build a nation truly worthy of our capabilities and potentials with a minimum wage of not less than 10,000 dollars so our beers in our bars are at least 100 dollars so these pepefuo and ayigbe idiots can not afford to visit us just like the Japanese do to their ndc idols the Chinese , long live the republic of Akan

It's funny how we Ghanaians spend time on less important matters and leave the critical ones unattended to.
Here we are with a very serious matter at court, the outcome which would determine the direction of our governance. A VERY IMPORTANT MATTER, INDEED.
And now we allow 'comtempt of court' to take the centre stage. Why?
The SC long ago and on numerous times pointed out the need for all to relax while it determines the course of the petition. It made it plain that it would not tolerate comtempt of its activities. Yet we dare it.
And, it's painful when such daring statements are made by persons who are expected to know the rules. it makes me think that such persons have agenda different from praying for quick and peaceful determination of the substantive case.
Is it peaceful determination of the case we want or wehat? God save Ghana!

Their utterances smack of arrogancy, haughtiness, egotism, malice and shameless pride. There is nothing worth emulating from the British house of- colonial masters-lords. We are an independent sovereign country with our own standard of acceptable judicial norms. The next thing your warped-minded John will recommend will be for Ghanaians to emulate the western immoral culture, since to him everything British is worth emulating.
Now back to your question 'Who determines what constitutes"decorum"?
The answer is-The Wise.

The judges MUST understand that our constition is above every citizen, including themselves. That constitution offers "freedom of expression for ALL citizens, so besides a threatning rhetoric, EVERYONE is guaranteed to express his opinion, and that INCLUDES decisions, actions or inactions by the Supreme Court judges.
What is considered a "comptemptous behaviour", especially when it took place outside the courtroom, is very ambigous, so the honorable judges should be careful deciding what constitute "comtempt". They are judges, and yes, have some powers allowed under the constitution, but in exercising such powers they should make SURE their action DOES NOT undermine the RIGHTS (of speech)the same constitution has GIVEN to citizens!!! If their actions will NOT serve PUBLIC GOOD, it's NOT worth taking!!!

You seem to take delight in imposing the American constitution on Ghana. Our freedom of speech in Ghana does not give any citizen the right to insult and threaten properly constituted authority.
Our freedom of speech does not arrogate to any citizen the right to rain disdain and contempt on any institution of power. You and your egomaniac NPP Cohorts are the ones with ego problem and not the Supreme Court. If you have a good advise to give, give it to your NPP ZEALOTS.Mr John's comments were not made in his bedroom but in the public airwaves with the intent of shaming the judges
and opening them to public scorn. The same was done by Ken Kurankyi in his paper with the same intended outcome.
If these do not rise to the level of contempt ,then what DO THEY RISE TO? Your argument is WARPED and CONVOLUTED.

Your argument boders on docility as against assertiveness. This docile attitude apparently dubbed "humility" in Ghana has not helped our development. This self-defeatist attitude that renders even astute individuals mum when dealing with elders, or people in position of power has been unhelpful. It allows corrupt officials commit crimes with impunity. It allows "investors" and even illegal migrants to rubbish our laws and degrade us and our ecosystem with impunity. All these happen because we have a culture that allows a minor who's right on an issue to apologize to an elder who's wrong on same issue. The only "logic" that informs this anomally is the culture of "the elder is always right".
I repeat, the honorable judges are there to listen to a case, apply the law and (proven) facts to rule on the case. They have NO right to influence people opinions. People are entitled to their opinions unless those opinions threaten life, security and property.
No citizen of Ghana has any right to tell another citizen how to express his/her opinion!!!
On the one hand, some comments expressing disagreement with the court's decision is deemed "comtemptous", but on the other, comments that supports the court decisions are not considered comptemtious, even though the two diverging views took a position on an unfinished case before the court. Is everybody "expected" to agree with anything the court says even if s/he has reasons not to?
I say again, that the court is not there to serve the egos of the honorable judges, but rather it's there to serve PUBLIC GOOD.

I grew up in the forties and observed the value of free speech. We fought for it as we wrestled the colonialists with demonstrations and lootings. We saw blood sweat and tears as marks of our `desire to speak and act freely. We even designed slogans to match or preferences "We prefer selfgovernment in danger to servitude in tranquility" . We embrazoned our coat of arms with "Freedom and Justice".
I was an active participant in that transformational design. I bear scars sustained during altercations with the colonial mounted police along High Street and enroute to The Arena.
I believed in freedom and still believe in it.

I dont find it contemptuous to express your opinion in a forum open to such invitation clearly outside the confines of the courts. Should it mean in my bedroom, during a discussion with my wife I am limited to some positive observations only over how the judicial proceedings are being conducted? The judges must stay away from reading comments about the proceedings from periodicals and opinionated headlines.Good referees usually ignore petty critics and keep up with their whistles. Overbending to deal with opinions may create confusion and broaden the scope of the task . Reading comments may also influence their judgement.

Even though I kind of agree with some of the comments made by the said Sir John, I think there are more professional and civilized ways he could have gone about it other than inviting himself for - or literally speaking, courting trouble for himself.
I though these two silly parties both had something akin to a Council of Elders. Cant their respective Council of Elders advise them on proper conduct?
Seeing that this recourse seems not to be possible, I urge the court to fearlessly - in the manner of martin Amidu, jail any of these ill-bred rascals who do not even seem to know the catastrophic consequences of their reckless misdemeanors.
Just when some of us thought that the NDC's long-held monopoly in crass and vulgar behaviour was simmering down a bit, the NPP too seems to have rather joined the fray instead positioning themselves as a more decent and alternative organization.
Seeing that govt has completely failed in the area of maintaining some level of sanity in the rapidly declining moral and civilized values of Ghanaian society, I again urge the courts, as the last resort, to deal drastically with any of these ruffians in political garb who bring themselves for a good ticking off. This may at least deter other such characters from thinking that we are in a lawless state.

Though I disagree with some of the things that Sir John is alleged to have said. But there are others that needs to be addressed if we want to move on as a nation. So far Awuku, Kwaku Boahen, Atubiga and Ken has been dragged before the SC. What about the president who said he was ordained by God. The SC should help us to understand if that statement of the president amounts to contempt or not. If it is and he is not sanctioned then no matter the number of people they sanction, people will always point to this as unfairness on the on the part of the SC.

Sir John is a lawyer and should know better and not try to be a hero. As the General Secretary of the greatest opposition party, he should rather be the one who would be educating the teeming following of his party rather than misleading them.
He should show how remorseful he is when he faces the Justices or be prepared to dance to the music he is calling.

Alex, the Judges have been giving warnings all the time about the disparaging comments people have been making. They however gave their final warning when they arranged Sammy Awuku and barred him from the Supreme Court proceedings. That would be on the 26th. of June.
The president of the Bench expressly said that they have indeed wiped clean the slate. Meaning that the were disregarding any other comments made and as some one would say, "from today to go", any one who goes contrary to their directive would be dealt with according to the law.
So you see Alex, an "amnesty" was virtually given to any comment that had been made before 26th. June. That is why those three people came to be invited and dealt with when they disregarded that order.

Mr. Kwadjo Owusu Afriyie alias, Sir John should try to hold his tongue! Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawuia and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and all have kept quiet. So, he shouldn't attempt to make any horrible public pronouncements while the Supreme Court is still deliberating on the election petition case. Doing so could cause problems for him and the party.
Everyone should keep quiet and allow the court decide. The Supreme Court has assured Ghanaians to trust that they'll make the right judgement and that's why people must refrain from making any contemptous statements that could only annoy the Justices. People must know that making such unguarded comments could hurt the Justices, since they're also human; they can also become angry and that's anoter fact people should accept.
Ghanaians and the rest of the world are keenly waiting to know the verdict. It's only wise and prudent therefore, that politicians and also journalists and the media exercise restraint and keep their fingers crossed, hoping to hear favourable news. There's no need to sit on the airwaves and make loose comments. Sir John should try to be wise and mature. He's been trapped by Radio Gold for a possible jail sentence. Asiedu Nketia and all have held their tongue---nobody is talking, so why should Sir John act as a "lone wolf" or "scape goat" to be punished by the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court slaps a 6mth or 1yr sentence, there's no reversal.
If Sir John is indeed a lawyer, he must know better than anyone else that while the court is in business, it's wise to keep mute until the verdict is out. You just don't joke with the Highest Court of the land. It's insane to do that; you play with the Court at your own peril. Sir John is treading on dangerous ground. He must be careful!

AWUKU IS BARRED FROM COURT WHICH IS OK, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT PEOPLE CANNOT SPEAK ON THE WAY THE BENCH IS DOING ITS JOB. EVERY GHANAIAN KNOWS AFARI GYAN AND THE EC ARE NOT TELLING THE TRUTH. AFARI GYAN SAID NVNV DURING THE ELECTIONS, AND NOW AT THE SUPREME COURT HE SAYS NO NVNV. HE IS DENYING EVERYTHING HE SAID BEFORE AND WE DON'T SEE THE REASON WHY AFARI GYAN IS BEING ENTERTAINED AT THE COURT. THE ELECTORAL PROCESS WAS BASED ON THE CONSTITUTION AND HE USED WRONG FIGURES TO GAZZETTE THE RESULTS AS HE SAID THE ERRORS COMMITTED IN THE ELECTIONS WERE NEVER CORRECTED BEFORE ANNOUNCING THE RESULTS, SO WHAT ARE WAITING FOR TO HEAR MORE OF AFARI GYAN WHO SHOUTED THAT IF NPP WASN'T HAPPY THEY MUST GO TO COURT. AS A RESULT WE WANT ATUGUBA COURT TO DO ITS JOB THE WAY WE WANT, BECAUSE AFARI GYAN AND THE NDC ARE TAKING GHANAIANS FOR A RIDE.

It is interesting to see how the SC will handle this. Whatever happens, the SC must know that the ending of this petition hearing is what is most needed. Any other thing is an unnecessary distraction. The longer the petition drags on, the more they will have to grapple with contemnors again and again. This is because, the petition is virtually being held the house of every Ghanaian and keeping quiet while it drags on is not feasible. So going by the note the SC has established, it is likely before the case ends many people will be languishing in jail as a result of contempt guilt. The SC should not allow the lawyers to delay the case - they should finish the case and give their judgment quickly.

Yes brother, I agree with you 100%. Ghanaians will continue to make contemptuous statements on this supreme court case, fair or unfairs, since I kind of sparks emotions. People will continue to criticise the SC judges decisions deliberately out of emothions or out of ignorance on various platforms including ordinary conversations. In those instances, how could the SC get all those people and sentence them for contempt. In that sense, the SC would have not been fair, just and firm cos it would have left some people out. So I agree with you that the SC should concentrate on the case and stop the wild goose chase to hurl mad people before it.
Having said that, people who matter in society should also stop the loose comments to allow the nine judges to proceed on the case in peace.

The Supreme Court is made up of Judges with integrity. The case before them is simple. They are to determnie whether the figures on the pink sheets represent the will of Ghanaians. The simplest way to settle the matter is to order that the ballots in the affected polling stations be recounted to see if the sheets captured the correct figures. The SC should not do anything to subvert the will of any Ghanaian because an official of EC made a mistake in filling the pink sheet. I believe the Judges are wise.

AWUKU SAID THE JUDGES ARE UNFAIR AND WAS FOUND CONTEMPT.
MY ADVICE TO THE JUDGES IS, FIRST THEY HAVE TO KNOW THAT THE WORLD IS WATCHING THEM JUST US I'M ALSO WATCHING FROM OUTTSIDE GHANA. SECONDLY, IF THEY WANT TO MAINTAIN THEIR DIGNITY THEY HAVE TO BE FAIR TO BOTH SIDE AND NOT BE SELECTIVE. THIRDLY, THEY HAVE TO FOCUS ON THE THE CASE AND NOT THE COMMENTS PEOPLE MAKE.
MAY GOD GRANT YOU WISDOM OF KING SOLOMON TO COME OUT WITH THE TRUTH SO GHANAIANS CAN MOVE ON WITH THIER LIFE.

While all this foolish talk by the likes of Sir John is appalling, please people, do not lose sight of the "beast" the SC is becoming. The scare tactics to silence Ghanaians is even worse now than during the military regime era. It was reported how Justice Atuguba referred to 1 of the 4 called b4 the court as "mere". To me he just stooped to the level of the very people he was sending to jail. Wow... what is Ghana's democracy becoming?
