Since before independence we have been plagued by all sorts of ruthless , vicious and willfully authoritative govts that all have one thing in common , denying the right of free speech and proper analysis of the motives and agendas they seek to keep hidden . Most of these govts were led by people who didnt belong to the majority but rather minority tribes and very marginal political clans . starting with nkrumah who is praised to high heaven but this same oligarchy , he st in motion a climate of fierce political antagonism whereby moderate minds of a liberal persuasion had no business in participating as only the radicals could stand the heat .The MOTIVE , be able to spend without consensus or agreement the wealth of the nation ie in today's jargon chop Ghana money some . This style and system of government was perfected by kwasea rawlings and today we have pepeni whose agenda is finalse the colonization of the majority , the Akans with the assistance of the homicidal ayigbe and the idiot pepefuo . they now use the institution called the supreme court to gag all free thinking individuals so the climate is set to enslave and now steal the oil and gas. they tell us nkrumah was so good so i say to them we hope ghana breaks up and their first presidents are just like him. when we secede we give them all the gold reserves in Switzerland and pay them another 20 billion on top so these ewes and pepefuo are rich and let their nkrumah come and spend that money in 2 years and leave them in debt for 2000 years , that is our revenge . hopefully their first nkrumah presidents are just as manipulative and propagandists so a greater part of that money is used to secure the unity of the universe as thats a very good thing not only african or nigger unity . the rest of the money we graciously leave them should be used in establishing useless unsustainable businesses that only feed other economies and drain their own . yes we wish them well as they have to us for over 60 years . we in the meantime Akans will build a nation truly worthy of our capabilities and potentials with a minimum wage of not less than 10,000 dollars so our beers in our bars are at least 100 dollars so these pepefuo and ayigbe idiots can not afford to visit us just like the Japanese do to their ndc idols the Chinese , long live the republic of Akan

The NDC government under Mills AND NOW Mahama do not understand fiscal discipline. All what the NDC government and Mahama is in power for is to amass wealth personally at the expense of the nation.
Can Mahama tell Ghanaians where the budget overspending was used for before they impose taxes unnecessarily on Ghanaians?
If the wanton waste in the collection of taxes, disbusrsement of taxe revenue and the managerial controls are not implemented and enforced to bring fiscal discipline, no matter how much taxes will be collected will not be enough. It will only end up in the pocket of Mahama and his cohort ministers and their ministries.

The NPP prior to the elections was very emphatic about the kind of economy which we had and which they termed a "Guggisberg economy" which had been our main economic activity from the early 1900's till present and that, there was the need to "transform our economy" to move away from the export of raw materials to a value addition economy, by adopting policies and programs, solely geared towards, bringing about a fundamental and paradigm shift, in our economic activities.
The question we need to ask the NDC gov't is, what exact policy interventions, programs and sustainable actions, have been taken aside of increasing taxes, to stimulate economic growth, to bring about a fundamental shift in our economic activity, which is sustainable and ensures growth and wealth generation for the masses? We have a gov't which is seeking to increase taxes on the masses indirectly, by seeking to introduce taxes on the telecom sector, on the agric sector etc, etc. without putting in place any mechanisms to promote growth of the economy. The NDC gov't doesn't have what it takes to address the fundamental issues of the country and their incompetence and ineptitude, is having a profound effect on the growth trajectory of the country.

A small nation like Ghana should not have those number of MPs who are doing nothing but living fat at the taxpayer's expenses.

There are so many ways to rake in revenue for the nation but the president being clueless, is rather taxing the poor to raise revenue thereby creating more problems.

The president has tax exemption status. Why can't he consult parliament to amend the constitution if he is a leader who really cares, for each Ghanaian to pay tax?

I think if Kufuor did what NDC is doing about taxes, they will have labeled NPP as a party that care less of the average Ghanaian. The best NDC can do to rake in more revenue, is to tax the air that we breathe. Pure and simple.

Higher taxes and more taxes have only two results - more poverty and less employment. Government takes the money from the masses, spend it FOOLISHLY - the people have less to spend, resulting in low economic activity, demand goes down, companies lay off workers, less food on the table, more hunger and poverty. Kwasi this is what you and NDC do not understand. All you understand is propaganda, lies and stealing. However, economics does not lie, it will always catch up with you.

Instead they have decided to vote for hardships on the people they claim to represent while creating, looting and sharing the country's resources plus selling the country to the highest bidder; the Chinese.

They don't care about the people; they are the new slave masters instead of servants of those who elected them. It is time for the military to step in like Egypt, and appoint technical people to run this country; people who have the qualifications, experience and knowhow, irrespective of what parties they belong to; as long as they can do the job of rescuing Ghana from the grave of bankruptcy.

If you go outside the country everybody is saying you are doing well but the people of Ghana themselves don't acknowledge the progress we have made. People of Ghana, if the president thinks this way and does is business accordingly, do you think he will be able to do anything to help the people of Ghana out of their economic woes? Politicians must learn to listen to the people and stop praising themselves based on comments from sycophants around them and intangible reports from outsiders. When a Ghanaian says he is suffering, he means that and must be listen to. It is NOT Normal not to have water flow through our pipes regulafly, it is NOT Normal to ration power the way it is being done in our country, it is NOT Normal to be
paid far less than someone living in a developed country and yet pay far more than that person for a galon of petrol. Open your eyes leaders of Ghana. Be wise, be very wise, for your performance is far below the standard of people who lead a nation.

AFTER WICKEDLY INCREASING PETROLEUM TARIFFS, GHANA'S CLUELESS "LEADERS" ARE PLANNING TO INCREASE DUTIES ON IMPORTS, THE COST OF WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY BE BORNE BY THE POOR GHANAIAN TAXPAYER.

ALREADY, LIVING CONDITIONS IN GHANA ARE VERY UNBEARABLE TO MANY PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS, AND THIS TAX HIKE WILL EXACERBATE THE ALREADY ALARMING PROBLEMS OF ORDINARY GHANAIANS, EXCEPT OF COURSE, THE 275 MPs and other POLITICIANS WHO GETS ALMOST EVERYTHING FOR FREE, PLUS THEIR KICKBACKS.

ONE DAY, THESE POLITICIANS WILL BE JOBLESS.

THAT'S WHEN THEY'LL START "FALLING ON THEIR OWN SWORDS".

STUPID CORRUPT SHORT-SIGHTED CLUELESS GHANA LEADERS.

MY SUGGESTION:

SOME OF THE MANY THINGS THESE CLUELESS USELESS "LEADERS" CAN DO TO GENERATE TAX REVENUE ARE

1. "PUT MORE MONEY INTO WORKER'S POCKETS - BY INCREASING DISPOSAL INCOMES" WHICH INCREASES CONSUMER SPENDING AND CONSEQUENTLY INCREASES TAX REVENUE.

THIS, PUT SIMPLY, IS CALLED THE "MULTIPLIER EFFECT".

2. CREATE JOBS BY ESTABLISHING SMALL-MEDIUM SCALE BUSINESSES TO STIMULATE A CIRCULAR FLOW OF INCOME (GROWTH).

3. IMPOSE NOMINAL TAXES TO ENCOURAGE THE IMPORT OF PRUDUCTS WE DO NOT AND CANNOT PRODUCE.

4. BROADEN THE TAX NET.

5. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, PROVIDE A VIBRANT INDUSTRIAL BASE TO ADD VALUE TO GHANA'S EXPORTABLE RAW MATERIALS LIKE GOLD, DIAMONDS, TIMBER, COCOA, BAUXITE, MANAGANESE, OIL, MANGOES, ORANGES, PINEAPPLES, CASSAVA, YAMS, PEPPERS, TOMATOES, ONIONS, MAIZE, AND MANY, MANY OTHERS.

Our government seeks money from wrong places. In united states, the judiciary are more of business entities than anything else. They raise money like crazy for the states so I wont have to pay higher taxes that end up in gutters anyway. This is why they are able to pay our taxes back to us at the end of the year. Let criminals pay for these things. Instead of sentencing someone three years, fine him GHC2000 and six months in prison, introduce police ticketing systems and fine people for violations of law like driving, littering, etc and have them pay through the courts. I was charged $150 for traveling at 75mph instead of 70mph. You think I speed again? No, i am more careful but can I never stop speeding? No, so they will keep making money off me for the state and i cant blame them for my own stupidity.Try this and the state will make so much money to care of little things like this and fight crime at the same time. Isn't this better than raising taxes and taking donation?

Ghana government is getting off on the wrong foot here. Just to increase taxes as a way to pay government bills is not the answer. Ghana needs to broaden its revenue base. You do this by creating an environment that jobs are created. It seems to me that no one in government is serious about having a middle income sector of society. This is the section of population that creates jobs, by purchases like automobiles, homes, clothes, appliances, electronics. Ghana needs to get serious about heavy industry, manufacturing and service oriented jobs. This is where the revenue will come to stabilize our economy not just taxing the already poor.
