It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution...

When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

In fact, the SC is really wasting time that is why this crooks think they still stand a chance, where on earth have you seen SC removing democratically elected president and putting in a 70 years old drug baron, greedy and arrogant man as president? You have been found out and God will punish you for wasting Ghanaian tax-payers money. Npp is now for dogs, especially with people like sir john in the helm of affairs of the party. This is a very good dialogue and I love it. These judges have not invited any politician who have stolen the country's money but people who are making reckless statements on a case they are handling which has the potential of plunging the country into chaos. It is perfectly in their domain. Don't they need to put their feet down if the executive and the legislative arm whose members are making these statements are looking on unconcerned? Who enjoys lawlessness? We must learn to respect authority and be law abiding. Our country is heading to the abyss with lawlessness and we need to reverse it.

The duty of the judiciary is to interpret the law which are made by legislature...it is the responsibility of the elected officials, the legislature and the executive to manage the WELFARE of the population who elected them...In doing so, if there is conflict of the law, the judiciary (not elected) led be supreme court interprets the law..of course, they do so taking common sense into consideration
For what they do, if the SC says they are watching out for the welfare of the people, there could be confusion...Let me give an example:
Woyome was sent to court, but the AG was not keen to prosecute and were using delay tactics, SC unfreeze Woyome's assets..That was the correct decision by following the law...The AG did not prove the case...Now if the aim of the SC is to watch for the welfare of the people, they may hold woyome's money even if the AG did not prove its case because SC will be watching out for the welfare of the ordinary ghanaian THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE WRONG DECISION...they are suppose to interpret the law irrespective of where the chips may fall., even if it goes against the state and the ordinary ghanaian...if the law is bad, parliament is suppose to fix it..the judiciary does not make law, they just interprete and apply it...
..Do not limit my first post on what Atuguba said to only the guys in front of the court for contempt...that is just the tip of it..

That is what they meant by 'we will care for the ordinary Ghanaian. I will like to take this opportunity to apologize for my initial harsh comment. It is our ultimate goal to see our dear nation prosper; and this can be achieved if the citizenry are law abiding and tolerant of each other. Free Speech doesn't mean saying irresponsible things. This is a good moved by the Supreme Court, may God guide them to uphold the law, the truth and the light of the supreme God and the nation Ghana He has given us. I begin to appreciate the judges especially Justice Atuguba, before i was having ill feelings about him concerning justice delivering, however today he has proved to me wrong and he is my man for 2013. I admire NPP than all the political parties because of its political ideology and philosophy, but what Ken Kuranchie did was wrong he should have just apologies and show some professional dignity to his profession. i agreed with the justices ruling of both atubiga and kuranchie this sentence will serve as deterrent to other politicians, irrespective of who you are especially the executive branch of government, they supposed that the country belongs to them but rather it belongs to the ordinary citizens of this noble country. Please, Ghanaians this will be put fear to those who have planned evil against this nation after the verdict of the presidential election case. The most important saying from Justice Atuguba is that the primary responsibility of the judiciary is to protect all the citizens of this country that is perfect signal to the all those who are in authority to discharge their constitutional responsibility without fear or favor for the freedom and Justice according to the coat of arms of the state. Fellow Ghanaians let us respect and appreciate the responsibility of our actions and refrain from causing mayhem, confusion. Ghana will show to the rest of the world that we are Paul the apostle of Jesus Christ of democratic dispensation of world and giant of Africa. i know that the truth shall prevail after the hearing of this case. Bravo Supreme Court who have shown that you deserved the title of Almighty God who is not respecter of persons. If the law of this country works Ghana will be free form bad governance, and better place to live in the world for both development and freedom. I am proud to be a Ghanaian even NPP admirer.

Play your part well to make this assurance complete. Don't follow any political party blindly like you would follow Accra Hearts oak or Kumasi Asante Kotoko. Politicians are supposed to work for the country and get paid. If they steal the country's wealth like a post office worker stealing parcels, they must be held accountable. Don't help them hide behind any party's colours to get away from their crimes. With an open mind, evaluate their performance and decide if they should maintain their position. It is not right to say that 'A' stole so 'B' can also steal. When you do that you are not being a good citizen. You must put Ghana's interest first before the interest of any group (political party) Ghana was there before they came and will be there when they are far gone. It is all we have, let's make it a better place to live. We have everything in Ghana to make our lives better, we need an attitudinal change. Play your part well, I assure you of mine. long live Ghana and well done lawyers and judges; we need sanity in our country.

Hello Mr. & Mrs. Ghana,
Your guess is as good as mine with respect to what went on between Atta Akyea and Ken before his appearance before the Supreme. Atta Akyea might have convinced Ken that by the virtue of his close connection with the Chief Justice Georgina Wood, he can put on arrogant behaviour before the Eminent Jurists. Atta Akyea's strategy has exploded into his own face.
Atta Akyea the thief, must be ASHAMED OF HIMSELF AFTER FOLLOWING KEN TO THE SUPREME COURT.

I followed the brief argument between Kofi ata and Kweku Asare regarding this issue of contempt of the court and their arguments about "freedom of expression" in which Asare (Azaar) told his friend and former school mate that he Kofi "was wrong" and had interpreted the law wrongly. He went on further to challenge Kofi's premise about why the justices may have cracked the whip - i.e. in the national interests and to protect peace, security and indeed the interest of the public.
Justice Atuguba's summation of what they the SC justices have taken a deem view of, and their primary reasons - "to protect the public" vindicates Kofi and shows that his version of the analysis was the 'preferred' one as far as the justices were concerned.
There were even some ignorant fools who challenged Kofi as to whether he "was in the judges' mind" to know what their reasons would be for their action (s).
You see, Kweku Asare (Azaar) may be a fine professor of law, and to his numerous fans, a 'great mind' and constitutional law 'luminary', 'expert' or whatever they choose to call him. The fact is that being such a brilliant professor does not make his take on issues the 'only' correct way. As a professor myself, I always tell my students - please don't just take what I tell you. Challenge me. Go, dig up your facts and come to my tutorial for an intellectual discourse.
It seems to me taking what the good professor has to say hook, line and sinker, can be very dangerous and misleading. My guess is that Ken Kuranchie chose to take that line and got his fingers really 'cooked' by the judges.
A word to the wise is ......
I raise my hat off to Kofi Ata and indeed Michael Bokor who though NDC leaning, are nonetheless fine minds (like Kweku Asare) and most of the time give in my view balanced, fair and sound opinions on this forum.

Yes, this guy lived in the USA, precisely in Virginia. His name then was Steve Acolatse. He was an NPP card Holder and used to attend NPP meetings in Washington, DC. He tried to chase somebody's girl friend and the boy friend gave him very severe beatings that he deserved. He returned to Ghana and became Stephen Atubigah. He renounced NPP and joined forces with NDC in a bid to became an MP. He failed miserably. In order to remain relevant he joined NDC communication team. He started beating the war drums in order to pave the way for a political appointment. Can Ghana entrust its future to fraudsters like Stephen Acolatse, alias Steven Atubigah? Your guess is as good as mine.
