I am worried about the sources of the data and the credibility of the analysis.
Dr Nyarko, according to you own figures and analysis, all the major sectors are shown downward trends, so how can you jump into the conclusion that the net result is a growth figure.
What activities make up "public administration"? Does is mean government is spending more? More on what? We have a serious deterioration in public services - health, transportation, utilities (electricity, water, etc) so what accounted for the grough in public expenditure, the logical conclusion is the high level of corruption.
Can you please explain what causes the increased public expenditure if you are really objective in your analysis.
People like you for your own job security and political interest just publish lofty statistics to paint the government of the day in a positive light, whilst the underlying circumstances indicate otherwise.
Where ever you might have acquired your degrees were you not taught to have integrity and be objective?
Mahama is destroying the socio-economic fabric of Ghana with is confused state of mind.

Remember that we now produce oil, and this overshadows the rest of our economy.

The govt statistics office is dragging down its credibility and if care is not taken nobody would even listen to you let alone use your discredited figures in future.

The article is clearly misleading. Year on year growth as per the article was 10.3% as against 6.7%, a clear difference of 3.7% and if we are allowed to approximate these values, a staggering difference of 4%, as compared to ...

The article is clearly misleading. Year on year growth as per the article was 10.3% as against 6.7%, a clear difference of 3.7% and if we are allowed to approximate these values, a staggering difference of 4%, as compared to the same period in 2012.
Now if one was to take the various sectors singly, as per the article; value of goods and services dropped by 3.1%, agric, dropped by 0.2%, industry dropped by 2.3%, services dropped by 1%. Crops, cocoa and forestry industry recorded negative rates of 4.9 and 5%. Mining and quarrying recorded 1.4%, on the back of oil and galamsey operations, and construction fell by a whopping 6.1%. Manufacturing and water were all trending downwards in the region of 7%. Finance and insurance services 5%, information and communication 2%, hotela nd restaurant 4%.
The only sectors that showed growth were public administration 14%???, health 6%??? and personal services 10%???
So effectively, all the critical sectors which are the engines of growth of a country and which should be trending upwards, were all in the negative or better still flat. The supposed growth in health is inexplicable judging from the strike action occasioned by the health personnel which occurred in the 1st quarter of the year. The numbers do not just add up. The consensus is that, the NDC gov't led by John Mahama and Amissah Arthur are clueless and do not have the competencies to address the downward and negative growth rates, which they have conveniently, classified as growth of the economy with a figure of aprox. 7%. The economy is being mismanaged and there's no end in sight and if steps are not taken to arrest this development, the country risks falling into crisis under the inept and incompetent administration of the affairs of Ghana under the Mahama-Amissah Arthur administration.
