Why did he not say the same about Virgin Airlines giving high fuel prices for the withdrawal of their services from Ghana?

Cosidering (and I stand corrected) we are talking about a national outfit 'the VRA'; whose main product is hydro electric power; I am quite amased by the assertion that they sped 90% of their cost on crude oil. First, you are not TOR - so you don't refine crude oil, second; your main raw material is water (the most abundant resource in the world) - Which, in case people are unaware, you get FREE. As a National coporation, I am prety sure that you get most of your crude oil derived materials at subsedised prices (again, I stand corrected). Other overheads not withstanding (every organisation have them), you should be in a very good position to provide the Citizenry of this nation with VERY affordable evergy. Both the VRA and Government of Ghana should get themselves trained in the skill of efficient resource planning and overhead streamlining. There is too much wasteage, corruption and buroucracy in the system, and until this is tackled, very little progress will be made.

I think we are being fleeced by way of utility tariffs in Ghana. The minimum wage in UK is £6.19 an hour which translate to £49.52 a day for 8 hours work. This will be equivalent to almost 150 cedis or 1.5 million old cedis a day. The average electricity bill is about £30.00 a month for people in the above category in the UK. Now if the take home pay a month is £800.00, it means only less than 4% is been used to pay for the electricity. Compare this to the average Ghanaian worker.
Fuel in the UK is more expensive than in Ghana because the UK Government imposes 136.94% Tax on fuel yet everyone can afford. The UK do not have hydro electric power generation, the cheapest way of generating power. Ghana generates about 70% of its power by hydro generation yet they are always citing the cost of fuel as a pretext to incresing tariffs. I have lived in the UK for 34 years and have experienced only two power cuts, one was through a storm in 1986 and the other was a scheduled work on the flat I was living in which they gave two weeks clear notice. Some may not agree with me for using UK as comparison but it is used to buttress the efficient way they do things.
If the utility companies would cut down waste and thievery by their personnel they can deliver cost effective service. They should also rein in Government and corporate bodies that owe them and leave the poor Ghanaian alone. Virgin Airline is proposing to curtail its operation in Ghana citing the cost of aviation fuel in Ghana. Does this say anything to us?
