Two journalists in the Ashanti region have been arrested by a government taskforce for attempting to bribe the taskforce.

The taskforce has been mandated to get rid of persons engaged in illegal mining popularly known as galamsey and foreigners engaged in small scale mining.

Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor reports that the taskforce has been making some inroads. On 1st June for instance, 23 Chinese nationals were arrested.

On Wednesday, the taskforce also arrested two journalists whose identities are yet to be established, in the Amansie West District Assembly.

“Their crime is that they tried to bribe the taskforce with GH¢2,000,” Erastus gathered.

Suspects, he said, claimed they have an illegal mining concession and did not want the taskforce to extend their operation there.

As of Thursday noon, the two journalists were being kept in the custody of the Central Police Station.

Meanwhile, information picked up by Eratus claimed the two are undercover journalists and had wanted to test the integrity of the taskforce.

In an unrelated development, two pictures emerging from a province in China indicate that they have been staging series of demonstrations claiming their compatriots are being maltreated in Ghana, and at times assaulted.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Immigration Service says deporting illegal Chinese small scale miners in the country, is a more viable option than prosecution to deter them from such activities.

They are expected to be deported to their country next week, Francis Palmdetti Public Relations Officer of the Immigration Service has told Joy News.

It is rather very sad for a member of Parliament to make such a statement by calling another "ugly". The way I see it, it is rather Mr. Kennedy Agyapong who is a disgrace to the country. He identified the lop holes in the system and tried to exploit them for his personal benefit. But he has forgotten he was toiling with innocent Ghanaian blood. He also took advantage of the peaceful nature of the larger Ghanaian population and one could see his posturing before and during the election. What I found so fickle about his presentation during his first appearance was his explanation on 10% extra ballots which I think a JHS student will not be convinced by such explanation. 10% of 25 ballots in a booklet will be 2.5 and round it up to 3 extra making 28 ballots in a booklet and the rest will not be difficult say 50 and 100 and his definition of over voting as well as the scenario created by him on the NO BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION NO VOTE with the paramount chief so there is something mischievous about such arrangement. I pray that the Justices can see through all these. At your age you allow Mr. Asiedu Nketiah and President Mahama to lure you into such a disgraceful act

His "so described gaff" was actually a reiteration of a position he holds that there cannot be anything like over voting in the classical sense. That is to say it is statistically impossible to over vote based on the guidelines of the EC. The clear meaning or implication of his remark was actually an inquiry to the questioner "Could you be serious? What the heck do you mean by '"over voting"'. To me it is an appropriate question to ask. Why? If you say there was "over voting", how do you define "over voting" so we can all be on the same page before I answer your question. That is all Afari Djan did and here we are with all these twi-English people trying to show off their Queen's twi-English simply because they expect Afari Djan to speak it better than themselves. That really is the shame and not the fact that Mr. Afari Djan stated in clear terms that if they are using the term "over voting" in a less than standard form then he needed to understand how it was being used.

How can an MP insult an official like Mr Afari like that? Mr afari must raise official complaint against him and get him tried by the court because an insult is ans offence that needs to be punished.

This man is a shame for those who elected him as MP. He does not have a basic moral education in his house. I can't understand why people gave him a passport to come and stay and work among human beings while he is still a pure bush and dark man.
