I wonder how much the chiefs get under the table to seal their mouths from putting pressure on the company to do more to help the people.

We are still selling our ornaments to the whites. How can Otumfuo betray his ancestors? Yaa Asantewaa, Nana Prempeh, Nana Osei Tutu etc, fought battle to battle with the whites so to protect our gold. Now new kings have come selling our ornaments for cash. Some Kings and Chiefs coniving with galamsey operators to spoil our lands.
Is Otumfuo saying Newmont is better than Anglogold? Because Anglogold has looted Obuasi for so long? No development been in Obuasi, this town should have seen gold streets in the town.
$1m project? The chiefs will divert all these to doing nothing for the communities. Otumfuo share of it is abt 25%.

It may be peanuts but check on AngloGold Ashanti and compare their their contributions to Newmont's. How many workers of Newmont have gone on strike to seek better service conditions. Given the amount of gold that has come from Obuasi and AngloGold activities, how much have they invested in the city? Yes, Newmont can do more but it is on track.

Who ever made Otumfour to wear that safety gear for a photo shoot must be beheaded in typical Ashanti fashion. I've never seen him look so ridiculous with absolutely no dignity. Never has royalty been made such a mockery of. One would be interested to know what is in this publicity stunt for his majesty. He will do anything for money. I would bet my bottom dollar that Newmont's CSR programme for the Ahafo people is nothing to write home about and is indeed just a token gesture to help them tick a box and make them look good. All these foreign mining and oil & gas companies do the barest minimum by way of their token CSR programmes for local communities. Instead of waxing lyrical about these programmes, people like the Otumfour should be challenging them to improve upon the little they do for the local communities. I rest my case.

What gold digging has done to Obuasi is beyond believe. From the British company to South African company - what do you expect. Greed is Good with nothing to care about the environment the company operates in.
